256 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open Hey Jenn, I'm sorry, I'm totally without experience to help you there. My plan is to wear a sports bra and tri shorts under my wetsuit--black bra, but I think any dark color would work--and then for the bike/swim just throw a running tank over it. So basically, a dark colored bra I normally wear running that would tolerate a swim...and I'm just guessing that this bra will work, will probably test later in the week. I'm also super frustrated by the sports undergarment situation....I'm wearing something I bought years ago and NOT for tri or swimming, just because I THINK it's going to work better than the other stuff out there I could buy. I can't tell you how many bras I've tried on lately, and thus far I hate EVERY one made specifically for tris. Oh, and a huge thanks on the goggle situation. I bought the exact aqua sphere's you are wearing, only in women's version, and they are my FAVORITE goggles ever. No leaks, comfortable....I'm thrilled. Sandi |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open That is GREAT about the goggles!! I am so happy for you! Did you go with clear or smoke lenses? I only have clear right now. I am going to try my first ows this weekend (just got my wetsuit in the mail today!! Haven't tried it on yet - fingers crossed) so I'll watch for the waves and leaking as you mentioned before. I may check out the women's version of goggles too - mine are kids. Argh, that's what I was afraid of for tri jogbras. I'll keep hunting and if I find something worthwhile I'll let you know. Definitely a dark one though, I hear you! Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open My wife wears a lululemon sport bikini top under a tri top and tri bottoms.(or her one piece tri suit). Wear everything under the wetsuit so all you have to do is take the wetsuit off and you are good to go! Originally posted by aviatrix802 Sandi, That sounds like heaven! Nice job on the 5k too! I have a women's specific question and you can feel free to PM me if you want. (I'm sure the guys are curious so if any of you have recommendations from wives, I'm listening too) I'm gearing up for my first ever sprint tri and I'm down to the tri jog bra. The jersey I have does not have support and I'm looking for suggestions. I've seen the TYR and that's all I've really found so far (don't know the exact model). Do you have any suggestions/recommendations based off experience? I will be wearing it under my wetsuit as well. Our local shop didn't have a great selection which means I'll be ordering online probably - yikes. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated! Thanks, Jenn |

Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open 28/28 as of yesterday! Planned swim this morning crushed due to mechanical failure at pool. Taking my bike in for tune up today...hoping to get back asap. Training a bit difficult lately with my son's lacrosse playoff schedule. Playing his sixth game tonite in 5 days. If they win...playing again tomorrow night... Also getting ready for long weekend camping trip this weekend(first of the year). Getting an older trailer ready is a pain in the butt! Need a new spare tire and a new propane tank...$200 out the window... Heading to Banff/Canmore area for 4 nights! Love biking, running and drinking beers in the mountains! Hoping the weather cooperates! Lastly, 19th wedding anniversary today...trying to convince our parents that the 19th anniversary gift is Multisports GPS watches...not much luck yet...

Member 166 Bismarck, ND | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open Jenn, I have a couple different tri tops that have great support. One is from Athleta. Nice support but rides up a little when i run (i have a belly so this may not be an issue for everyone). I have also ordered numerous tops from trisports. The one i really like it a TYR. It has a bra underneath and the 1/2 zip top. Great support. I can unzip if i get hot but keep zipped for the bike. I would not try to put something on after the swim. First of all, you will be tired and second, it will stick because you are wet making it very difficult to put on. My first tri, i wore my sports bra with a rash guard top. It worked but i felt "sticky" the whole race. Just some suggestions. Brenda |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open Brenda, Thanks for the input. I will probably go with the TYR - though I'll check out Athleta and Lulumon. I just got an Athleta magazine in the mail! I already have a two piece tri suit I love that I plan to wear under my wetsuit - I just want to take the wetsuit off and be gone. 19/28 today with another brick (2 days in a row - I'm sleepy) 3.0 mile run 1000 yds in the pool Kept them short as I'm still recovering from camping. Question for everyone. How are you tracking your ows? Time? Map out a specific distance? I'm headed out this weekend for my first ows - wetsuit just came in yesterday!!! Yea!! I'm just going to work on getting used to sighting/tracking, and breathing this first time out. Thanks, Jenn |

Thanks, Jenn I put my Garmin up in my swim cap (since the top of your head is mostly out of water it doesn't interfere with the GPS signal) and set the auto lap for 250m. While I'm swimming it buzzes every 250m so I know how far I've gone. Afterwards I can upload the map to Strava and see my pace and splits. |

423 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open I finished my second day of my 5 day climbing challenge, which I'm calling the Tour De L'Outaouais (Outaouais being the French name for the Ottawa/Gatineau region). In the last two days I've ridden 240km and climbed 2000m. Today it was pouring when I got to the top of the escarpment but it was still a good ride. The first picture (taken today) is taken at the same lookout as the the second picture (taken yesterday). In the second picture you can see a river far off in the distance. I started my ride on the other side of the river about 2/3s from the right edge of the picture.

Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open I go by time and guestimate the distance. New user 669 Madrid | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open You are a lucky guy: finding a job in a week is quite unusual part of the world called Europe. If it happened to me, unfortunately I would have a loooot of time to train before I get a new job. Congratulations, and enjoy the ride! Originally posted by mirthfuldragon Haven't posted much since Quassy, since life has been a total wreck. Lost a job, got a new one (with twice the commute), all within 8 days. That panic is probably one of the worst things that has happened to me in terms of training. Just can't find the groove right now. I'll make it through, and I just need to keep telling myself that. I know it's the truth, it's just getting to that point is rough. It's like the 7 mile climb at Quassy - knowing I have enough to handle it doesn't make it any shorter or easier. Life, as always, goes on. |

256 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open Hi Jenn, I'm going to do my first OWS this week too, so we can compare notes. Although my bra isn't FOR tris, my shorts are. I figured I could wear both under the wetsuit and just toss a loose tank on over the bra as I leave for the bike/run...it shouldn't be a time drain. I'll see how it works out. But this is part of what I'm going to be assessing in my first couple of OWS...how well this will work and what it will feel like. Thus far nothing tri-bra fits comfortably. My tri is also likely to be much hotter than I prefer to exercise in (although am acclimating now). Generally I just prefer to have as little as possible on my body when it's warm and I'm exercising. 23/28 today. Not having any trouble swim training with that outdoor saline pool. I can't wait to get there each day....and it's then really easy to jump on my bike. :-) Sandi |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open Just a quick check in - sorry I've been AWOL - but packin up and travelling to Michigan where we will stay for the next six weeks has sucked the life out of me. I realize that being on vacation and complaining about it is a lot like Alex complaining about the heat... but I do feel bad about being out of the loop for so long. The riding up here is going to be great. There is so little traffic out here on these rural roads. My only problem is that Google maps keep taking me on routes that contain dirt roads and that won't fly with a road bike. I've tried to find rides on Google maps, map my ride, BT and strava but I haven't found a really good site to find roads that would be nice to ride on up here. Any suggestions? With a 100 miler coming up this weekend - I want to find something good so I don't get stranded in the middle of nowhere stuck between dirt roads. Hope all is well with everyone! |

Today, I was talking to my uncle, who lives in Cape Coral, about how you love to give us crap during the winter about the fact that it's 72 in FLA while we are waist deep in slow. Well today, just for the record, it was 72 degrees. Perfect. I'm gonna take the high road and tell you to take care of yourself in that heat! |

I have switched to the satellite view on google maps to try and determine if the road is paved or not. Sometimes you can tell. Down here the dirt is red clay so the dirt roads really stand out. The gravel roads can be a little harder to tell apart from paved ones. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open 20/28 with a bike on the trainer - rain all day. I'm starting to realize I may not make the 28 even with the doubles this past Monday and Tuesday without risking something. I will press on and see what I can do, though I have a 10k on Saturday and would love a rest day prior but a swim wouldn't hurt! As Patton said, "never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired." Best all! Jenn |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open Thanks everyone for the suggestions about avoiding dirt roads. I would love to drive the route - but it's hard when 3.5 hours is spent each day during swim bike run. I'm loving what I'm doing so I'll just have to roll with it... I will try google maps - the problem is that the pics up here this far north aren't great. But it can't hurt. Today i had a killer bike ride. My coach told me to really push it and I did. Despite the 1500 feet of elevation gain, I still averaged 16 mph over 30 miles. Looks like all the training is paying off. When you factor in the hills, tonight's ride might be one of my fastest ever. Had Bell's Two Hearted Ale in a can to celebrate. It might be my favorite beer and I think it's one of the best IPAs on the planet. The fact that it's in a can makes it even better. |

256 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open OK....I am relatively new to the bike. I am wondering a few things: 1) How do you train/increase speed? As I said earlier, a huge factor for me is my bike (a hybrid), I'm sure the weight isn't helpful in the slightest to getting much speed. On fairly flat surfaces I'm only getting 13 mph average, regardless of distance. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to increase my speed...training wise. My plan had to get slightly less bulky tires before the race, which should help a little bit. 2) Are there techniques, methods, strategies to gears during the race? Or do you just go as fast as you can since it's a race? Thanks....24/28 today with a 13 mile bike. Now sitting down to have a Stinger Pale Ale from Sun Valley Brewing Co. Got a growler on my way back from the trail. :-) I think we're going to try out my wetsuit and my first OWS tomorrow. Sandi |

553 St Catharines, Ontario | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Accountability/Appreciation Society - Open I am back after hiding from the mentor group for a few days while feeling sorry for myself. My calf injury really put pay to the June xx/28 streak but I am ready to get back on the horse. Missed my targets at my recent 10k. Did not PR, did not make the gold medal group, did not crush my sister in law. However despite the pain and suffering of running in 94% humidity the lesson learned were numerous. Race report here for those interested: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... Focusing on the positives: 1) No problem running a few KMs of my 10k at under 4:30 per KM with no negative feedback from my calf issue. Rehab seems complete which is great. The only problem is some DOMS in my quads which I deserve. 2) I realize that I can't expect to have a great running season based on tons of cross training. Sure, this time last year I could not swim 25m. But the fact that I am a stronger swimmer and biker does not compensate for a lack of running specific fitness. I suffered in my Sprint in the run segment and at this 10k due to poor run preparation. 3) I need to plan race pacing and discipline myself to stick to it. 4) Enjoyed some nice Old Speckled Hen post race.
