We were doing our run and I partnered up with a lady who was a bit rusty too. We were going along nicely together for a while but it seems that her version of getting back into things and mine differ greatly. Turns out she was an ultra marathon runner. Bit of a difference to a Beginner Triathlete. Still I worked harder than I normally would have and pulled up OK so it worked out well. |

I'm still struggling to find the time to get out and do what needs to be done... especially before the weather tanks on me. By the time I get home, I'm just completely wiped out and too tired to do much of anything. In the mornings, it's a chore just to get out of bed sometimes. Thankfully, they should have a replacement for me Nov 1st. That'll allow me go to back out into the shop which will shorten my hours (8a-5:30p). Plus, it won't matter if I show up to work sweaty since I won't be dealing with the general public... that means that commuting by bike will be back on the table for 2-3 days/week. Hoping to get my hands on a mountain bike for later in the year for bad weather. |

I expect an ultra runner would have some good tips on endurance, even if not triathlon

Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: 2016 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4-Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Sounds like folks are starting to get back into a rhythm of trainiing.. or soon will. I, too am getting back at it. I had to cancel races for all sorts of reasons this year, ailments, injury, life events. I am (knocking furiously on wood) getting back into half iron training. My official plan starts in late November, but I am getting ready now. I have some races planned to keep me motivated for the duration. The first being a road bike race (ride) this weekend. 30 miles. That will be my limit since I haven't been doing much biking (or anything else) for a while. Happy Wendsdays all. |

788 Across the river from Memphis, Tennessee | Subject: RE: 2016 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4-Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Thanks! I finally got some saddle time in this morning. Went from my house to the entrance of the Big River Crossing (Google it, it's awesome and opens in the next week or two). 20.2 miles keeping it low and slow. Came across a trail gate that was still locked, so I went around... and had my first clipped - in fall. Landed on my left shoulder (Thankfully, the good one), and rashed up my arm just a little. I also got my knee, I'll post that pic. It was really nice to get out, even if the last 12 miles were with a bloody knee. Wearing pants at work tomorrow is going to suck |

309 | Subject: RE: 2016 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4-Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Hi All WebFootFreak, Congrats on your new family arrangements. I had a chuckle about your fall with the clip ins. It's only a matter of when, not if this is going to happen to all of us. I checked out Big River Crossing, very interesting and scenic. Ceilidh, Good for you for getting back into training and planning a few events to see you through. Not much to report personally since my last post except that another friend has been diagnosed with cancer. This makes me more determined to achieve something while I I have good health. |

I am sorry for the crappy diagnosis for your friend. I hope they can kick cancer to the curb and stomp it. The Big River Crossing is great! I live in a post card beautiful place, but I am green with envy for bike paths.. especially cool ones like that. |

788 Across the river from Memphis, Tennessee | Subject: RE: 2016 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4-Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Well, I was right about one thing: my pants brushing up on my knee as I walk is... irritating... hehehe. Also, where I landed on my left shoulder is pretty sore now. Nothing a little Aleve hasn't helped Robin: Memphis may have quite a few bike trails, but other than this trail, there's not much on my side of the river. There is 1 other trail out between a subdivision and a park... it's a mile, tops. I've talked to our County Mayor (i've known him for years), and he says that there are plans in the works for more *crossing fingers* Edited by WebFootFreak 2016-10-17 9:11 AM |

788 Across the river from Memphis, Tennessee | Subject: RE: 2016 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4-Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open I pulled off 43 miles on the bike last week. I'm oddly happy about that. Sat down and had a long talk with the wife. I am not feeling good (in general) at all anymore, but I want a new bike. Not a tri bike per se, but a bike I can hand aerobars from and is more... standard... than my Wally Werld speshul. My Denali has carried me a LOT of miles. I replaced the bottom bracket out of necessity, but every other upgrade has been by choice. That being said, the time I was riding the Felt Z100 was amazing, and I want that level of performance back again. So... in the spirit of "earning" a new bike (under the rule of "I ride it a lot so it won't go to waste"), I am setting myself up a challenge that will be challenging, but really one that I will fail only if I succomb to laziness. As luck, or providence, would have it, there are 26 weeks between the week of Nov 1st (Oct 30th) and the week of May 1st (April 29th). So, for a half-year goal, this is the plan: Step 1: Training Swim: As I can, shoulder is still not healed (not part of the challenge) Bike: 1000mi all purpose miles in the saddle Run: 100mi on foot Step 2: Memphis in May Sprint Beat my time from the 2015 race (1:42:06.32) as I didn't run this year. Step 3: Better Bike Crush the Mighty Mite that crushed me this year Edited by WebFootFreak 2016-10-24 10:17 AM |

Hi All Looks like this group has gone in to hibernation. 2016 has been one big game of snakes & ladders for me. One of my friends posted recently that they're going to burn the 2016 calendar and dance around it to celebrate the end of an ugly year. I should have completed 2 races by now but I won't be doing my first until the end of February. I've "de-cluttered" a lot of things now and scheduling my time to allow 2 hours a day for training regardless of anything else going on. Unfortunately some of my family and friends are very ill. I now need to train as a distraction. I hope everybody can get back on track and stay healthy. All the best |
