Those are the hardest kind of sets to keep track of, when you are repeating a repeat.  At least you did more yardage than you thought, instead of less.  You'll benefit that much more from it.

Tried a gel this morning before my bike ride. Didn't seem to be a problem, so I might down one on the bike just to have a burst of energy, since I will have been up for many hours by that point. The sprint starts after the Oly, so not until 930....I will leave my house around 615, since I want to be there to watch the Oly start at 730 and have time to set up the transition and socialize. Going to hook up with a few other BTers before the race to do a warm up swim...yay!

I am bummed that the tri shirts I ordered for the kids aren't here yet. Oh well, they will have two more tris this season to wear them to.

Race question : I am wondering if I can be "that guy" that runs across the finish line with his kids. I know that I will be among the last people in my age group and bottom half of finishers. DO you guys think people get annoyed with that??

First of all: who cares if people get annoyed with it. Its your race, do what you want!
I personally think the guys that run across the finish line with their kidos is the cutest thing ever. I told my husband that when we have kids(several years from now) I want him to be "that guy". I say DO IT!

I don't know what other people think-have you heard things at other events? I think in the old days when people used to get away with racing 'turkey' (i.e. not paying) then maybe there were issues when they crossed the line....but with the timing chips it takes away that problem. And it is motivating for the kids to be a part of it. I will see how it goes for me and if they are close enough to the finish I might bring them along with me, too!! (my kids, not yours, of course ) My 4 1/2 year old can't wait to do a kids' triathlon, based on the photos I have showed him online. Just wait until he sees one in person tomorrow!!!

When my dad was doing tris, I didn't cross the line with him, mostly because I was a teenager and was like, "ugh, my dad is wearing speedos". . . or something like that!!!

Well, my seven year old already is doing1300 yd workouts with a swim team and smoking kids twice his age. He is targeting a kids tri with me in Sept. I am really concerned that he will be mad when I don't "win". I guess if I stay out of any hard charger's way it really doesn't matter. Thanks girls!!

No way will anyone be mad - I think it's really cool when I see that!  Kids are smiling, parent who's racing is smiling, crowd's cheering like crazy!  Go for it!

Question.  I wore a 1 piece suit for my first 2 races, but I am contemplating wearing a 2 piece suit for my race on Sunday.  Can the shirt still be worn under the wet suit or should I put it on during the transition.

Most books I've read recommend you wear it under the wetsuit. That's what I plan to do.

And totally take your kids across the line with you. Many many many people did that at the Iron girl.

One lady who biked with her disabled kid behind her and pushed her wheelchair in the run, allowed her kid to walk the last 10 yards across the line. People went nuts cheering them on.

Kids shouldn't be running accross with you - it insults the integrity of the sport. haha j/k
I see it all the time at races.. it's pretty cool. One funny thing that happenend at the last sprint I did a few weeks ago..

I was in the last 1/2 mile or so and someone was chugging along pretty close behind me.. I didn't bother looking back.. I just tried to stay ahead. Some people were cheering the person on behind me, so that only inspired me more to stay ahead.

Then the last 50 yrds or so there was a straight uphill to the finish at the light house... I was just taking it all in and was going to keep my pace.. but seemingly out of nowhere I "see" this person that was behind me starting to sprint.. and it was what looked like a 10 yr old kid! Ugh, I COULDN'T let "kid" beat me!!! I sprinted like my life depended on it... I managed to stay ahead but almost lost breakfast after crossing the finish line.

My wife had a little video of the finish, and of course it was just some guys kid who jumped in to run the finish! Ooops. Well, at least it got me to sprint the finish and pass a few people.

Good luck everyone who's racing this weekend!

Hey gang,
I am a triathlete now! Finished my first race in 1:20. I won the Athena division!!! Met a few BTers at the race, and had a really great time. Will type up the race report when I get my split times back. All in all, a wonderful experience. Kids didn't finish with me, but were cheering the loudest!!!

I will try to post a few pics soon, too!

AWESOME! Congrats.

On another note, I have a question: I'm looking at the Total Immersion swimming method, and I wonder if I should change my swimming routine now or keep my "old slop" for my tri in September.

Do I have enough time to learn a new swimming method?

Gator22,

I thought we agreed on holding hands crossing the finish line?  "Don't stop believing.  Hold on to that feeeeeling"  I now see where your priorities are.

Nice job Leslie!!  We had a pretty tough swim today with some big waves and then a hot/humid bike and run. But, I feel like I am getting better.

Shark week starts tonight on Discovery! It is like watching a train wreck... I am not sure I will be able to pull my eyes aways...

They are kicking it off with "Ocean of Fear" the accounting of the worst shark attack in history. Sounds comforting, right?
