Any body heard for Ann lately, been miossing her?

Hey billy,

I'm ok.  Just busy with life.  I won't let myself sign onto the site until I get my bible reading done otherwise I may never get to it.  I love it here!!   Anyone else struggling with fitting it all in??  Been a little behind lately with work and trying to fit training in.

BTW, I couldnt get through the craiglist link.  Gross!!  (I know I'm old but that word works here!!

Here's the deal on the shaving link.    I have been thinking of shaving my legs this year and wondered where to stop as well,  now I know!

Didn't say it was gross, just funny in a sick kinda way.

We all have excuses about why we can't fit the training in or why we can't log our stuff ( right Amy), but making sure you get you daily Bible time in is really the best and most acceptable reason  I have ever heard.  Mighty proud of my new invitee!!!!

SOrry haven't been around. Just lacking motivation. Its been that way since my ironman. Even my athletes have been commenting on it. I signed up for the oceanside HIM thinking it would get me training but it didn't work. Now I am 8 weeks from it and all I did this week was 2 runs and last week a run and a swim. The only other time I have felt like this was after I decided to stop wrestling. It took a year before I decided I need to get out and do something. Maybe if I start checking in and reading about everything people are doing I can get going myself.

Phil - welcome back - all these new folks will get you going. You can feel all the fresh energy.

Billy - you stop at the upper thigh area - unless you are doing something "special" for Mrs Billy.

Hey Phil,

I am Ann, new to the group.  Welcome back online. Have you tried making a short one week plan when you can train?  I find that helps me.  Just go week by week and you will be doing it.  Don't stress if you miss a work out, just keep going forward.  Sounds like you have accomplished alot in the past, maybe think about a new goal.  Maybe its time to move onto something different?? Shorter races, a single venue?

Stay in touch.  (I'm still figuring out this site so I couldn't quote and reply like I wanted to.)

Warmly,

Got into the pool for the first time on Thursday... it was a lot more difficult than I imagined it would be. I have a lot of work to do, since I could only go about 50 yards before needed a break.

The class setting was much harder than I imagined, since I kind of panicked, so that will be good for getting used to nerves during the race, but I'm really excited to go back tonight and see if doing it at my own pace will help. I hope so, since 1500 meters is so daunting right now. If I can get to 100 today without stopping I'll feel a lot better. I may try using some total immersion techniques too, to see if that suits me better... the whole swimming things requires way more coordination than I currently possess.

Anybody have a free resource for some swim work outs? A while back I got a warm up, speed, endurance and drill set, I think from an article on this site.  But I am getting bored with it, plus now that I am logging my distance, I think it is more than I need to do in the off season.  (The endurance work out was 4000 yds, I thought I would never get out of the pool!)

Txs for any help.

Ann - ladders are fun. Swim 50 then 100 then 150 then 200 and when you get to a number you like (maybe 250 or maybe 500) then work your way back down by 50 each swim.

Google swim a mile in 6 weeks. Great workouts.

Ann - great advice to Phil - pick something fun - get rolling. Do something epic with your fitness. The year after my first Ironman we ran Texas Independence Relay. - a 203 mile run. That was rockin'. A huge amount of fun for a group of men and women over a couple of days. Find something FUN. I also enjoy a trail run for fun as well. You gotta keep your eyes and head in the game.

I had a great ride this morning. Maybe a nap now.

I will check that swim a mile in 6 weeks starting 13 FEB.  I have not set a foot in the pool since the end of October...

Yesterday I ran 10 miles for the first time since 2009 when I got surgery on my menisci and a torn achilles...  It felt good, ran another 5 today so while my legs feel like they are about to fall off, I mentally i am as ready as I will be before the 1/2 M next Sunday, I might just be able to finish in time for the FloRIda concert.

Great Job Pam - take care of those legs this week - nothing over 30 minutes and 20 would be better - SLOW and easy. A swim would be great to stretch you out. Go get in the pool sister. Good luck at RnR.

Completed my first race of the year and I rocked!  It was a 10k and was going to be a tempo run for me instead I just listened to how I felt and just went out and ran.  I ended up coming in 2nd for my age group ....the first place person was just a minute a head of me and I was so hoping to catch up to her.  Maybe next time.  It didn't hurt that I knew that once I was done food and beer was waiting for me as we were at a brewery.

What is amazing is that I have been running for 10 years and this last year after working with a coach I have PR'd in all my races.  What a great feeling that is.

Congratulations to everyone for getting out there and doing something!

Awesome job Kathy!

And Pam too! I hope the half marathon goes well and you get to enjoy the concert.

Bryan, alas the 6 weeks to a mile is a bit much for me at this point. I'm working on being able to go 25y without choking. Apparently I need to actually breath out once and while, so I guess that's my focus for Monday. Used some of the drills from total immersions youtube and that helped wayyy more than my actual swim class.. so I think ill look into private lessons with the folks who teach that around here.

Fat2tri - you cracked me up. You will get there - I promise. I used to say "I can swim and I can breathe. I just do them both together.". You can do this. It is mental and technique. You can do this.

Kathy great job!!!

Fat2tri--For me last year the breathing was the hardest part about swimming. Once I got it down progressing was much easier.

Thanks for the advice.

Pam.... good run... i am sure it makes you a lot more confident about next Sunday..

Kathy... Whoo Hoo... FlashTallchik...(innocent bystanders).."who was that"? "i'm not sure, all i saw was a tall blur".."mmm.. lets wait around and see if it happens again"... "okay".."but you didn't hear a train, didja"?

2tri....breathing in water can be tough...your body and mind have to both believe that they will get air when they need it. (both of mine freak out if if and when i accidently do it wrong and get some water) Kung Fu... "patience Grasshopper.... now do it again"....

Happy Superbowl Sunday All...

F2T - the workouts on 6weeks to a mile show good structure. You might only do 3 x 50 instead of 10x50, then 2 x75 instead of 12 x 75 , etc but the structure is good.
