Jeff/ Great race report!  I hope my first HM will be as nice an experience as yours, have to admit I am getting nervous.

Suzie and Maria, I will try to also run a mile at 14:30 Eastern, that is if I can still walk after my HM (It starts at 4AM Pacific), if not I will dedicate one mile to each of you during my HM, how about mile 12 and 13?  I will just do that anyway, and I am not going to walk them if I can help it.Cool

After running 10 on Friday and 5 miles on Saturday I took a break yesterday.  It is amazing how tired I felt all weekend and even took 2 naps and did not last for the end of the Super bowl which was just as well since I could not for the life of me remember which team was playing in which colors.

So today, I went swimming (Yes, Bryan, I listened!) for the first time in 3 months.  I did the first workout of the swim a mile in 6 weeks...  The only modification was the rest time in between the 100, 50 and 25 meters, I needed a LOT more than 12 breaths or whatever the recommendation was to feel I could start on my next segment.  The first 700 ms are on the books for 2012... And then the hunger returned, I do not know what it is about swimming but I am ravenous afterwards.

Wow, I am away from my computer during the day and the number of emails telling me someone posted to the group tells me I was missing something fun.Suzie great job running in the cold. I actually like it, at first it was hard to get used to but now I don't mind it a bit. Just remember add 20 degrees to the actually temp and that is a good base on how to dress. Monte, hope you get to feeling better.Count me in on the virtual mile with Marie and the gang. I will have to do my mile earlier as I am running a marathons but I will be running it with you in in my mind. Thanks Ann.Nice race report, Jeff! It is hard to control your pace in the beginning with everyone taking off and the excitement of the race can make you go out faster then planned. Good job in hanging in there.Kathy

elcaminobill - 2012-02-06 9:11 PM Bryan, I will take care of everybody!

Billy - Is that supposed to comfort Bryan???  Smile

Kathy and Jeff - Congrats on your races! Way to rock those times!

Amy - I love the tat! I'm sure your wearing it with pride.

Monte - Hope you feel better soon. I know it is frustrating when you really start cranking up the training to get sick.

Suzie & Maria - I'm in for the mile on Saturday with ya'll!  Hope I can do the math and start at the right time (PST + 3 = EST ???)

I also think that with the size of our group, 100 finish lines should be within reach. I feel like I'm sandbagging though, with all of you guys already knocking off races this early in the year. I'll have to step it up soon!

Last time I had problems replying to a reply....now all my messages are all one paragraph. I love my iPad, but what I write and how it looks don't match with the actual. So what I am trying to say is I am sorry for my pasts if they are all crammed together.

Billy, do you need kid shoes also and regular women's shoes or just athletic type shoes?  I am cleaning out my house and have soccer shoes in many small sizes and regular kid (boy and girl) shoes and some regular shoes of mine.

I would be happy to send them your way

Pam

I promise I will only push the submit button once and be VERY, VERY patient unlike last time....

Soccor shoes are GREAT in all sizes, otherwise any style of atheletic shoes work, both large and small.

Thanks for you consideration.

 Shouldn't that be soccer?

It was me.  I will try to send more.  Unless we've already donated them, we should have plenty of old soccer shoes laying around.

Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH!

Hi guys,

I had a breakthrough swim workout this morning. Just had to share.  This morning, Coach Patty recommended that I think about pinching my shoulders together during the reach phase of my stroke.  We have been working on eliminating my personal issue of crossing my left hand over the center line.  By pinching the shoulders I felt my chest open and it became easier to breath.  My elbows came out and the catch became much more efficient and fluid.  The last then I noticed was my lat muscles felt pre-loaded and had a new snap during the power of the stroke.

Getting into the pool today, I felt a little bit tired and my legs were still quite sore from Sundays 10 mile fast tempo run.  By focusing on the minor change to technique I swam my fastest timed 200.  I'm definately going to continue focusing on triggering a pinch between my shoulder blades timed with the reach of my stroke.  Really surprise at how fast I was swimming and noticed my stroke count was 40% less (16 vs normal 20)  How to make this tempo my new normal.

I was really excited by todays break through in the swim.  It's been a couple of months since anything big happened.

Heres my bt log entry for today's swim workout.

RTB Masters Swim (2600 yds)
WU 5x100,
D1 8x75 as 50-3nRoll,25 Swim w/fins
D2: 8x50 focused breathing in the trough. 4x50 w/fins, 4x50 swim.
MS - Timed Swims for Record
  200 @ 3:35 (PR yeah baby)
  4x25 recovery
  300 @ 5:42
  4x25 recovery
  400 @ 7:47
Every timed interval under normal send.  Thats good, no fade.

Coachs note:  Work on cross over problem by on pulling shoulder blades together during reach.
Comments:  This worked.  found that this opened chest, raised elbows making catch easier or perhaps more efficient.  Also felt that my lat muscles were 'preloaded' making it a snap to apply power during stroke.  Great day to make improvements in the pool.  It's been awhile since I had a breakout swim.
