I got in six this morning. May run a little during the Texans game too. Put the bike in the shop yesterday. Being maintenance negligent when I first started riding has caught up with me. Chain is stretched and cassette is worn out.

congrats to rudy for his 5k pr: 22:06... fast fat baby!  2 minutes faster than this race for him from last year

i had a 25:35, about 2:10 minutes off my PR and about 3:30 slower than i was expecting as of 4 weeks ago.  it is also my slowest open 5k in 5 years.  thanks bronchitis.  such is life  back to the grind stone.

nothing like tying one on at 11 AM.  always a blast.

So ends 2011, 6th year in this sport and i am still learning a lot.  Had an oly, HM and 5k PR but also had some very crappy races and inconsistent training.  we'll get 'em next year!  I'll be setting up a CT BT drinking fest int eh next couple weeks, so keep your eyes out if you happen to be in new haven.

Nice job Rudy. That is fast. Jeff-y, I think the hangover method is a good one. Almost 50 friends over last night for annual holiday party. Last one left at 2:30. In bed by 3 am, and up at 6:30 am to head to the cyclocross race. I thought I was going to hurl driving there. Anyway, there was an Open Mountain bike class. 12 of us in that class, and finished third. Fun race. But I am drained. Pretty sure I won't be getting up early tmrw to workout.

Rudy - Nice PR!!!! Jeff - nice job too despite being sick!!

We did a 5K today also as a family - the Jingle Bell Run. My oldest daughter (12 years old) ran with her XC team and she finished in 29:32 - this was her longest distance as they usually only run 1.5 miles. I ran with my 7 year old son and he ran the entire thing - we finished in 33:50 - I am so proud of him!!! My husband ran with my 10 year old DD, who had terrible side stitches and stomach issues from the getgo and they sauntered across the finish, having taken pictures along the course, at 45:xx. We all had a great time and my son can't stop talking about the next one and doing triathlons next summer. And my 3 year old is mad because I didn't take her with us....

No bueno.

Got in a little over 9 this morning.  I had a bunch of friends running a female only HM yesterday.  They all set PRs.  Makes me really lament not getting out there to support them.

Bought a shadow box to put my stuff from Austin in.  Really going to need Cindy's help on this one cause Lord knows I'm not artsy or crafty, hell I probably still can't color inside the lines.

Awesome.  My oldest is seeming to hate sports, but loves to Bike all day, and had a blast at the kids triathlon this summer.  Keep them interested as long as you can.  Always nice to have the family participate.

You'll have to share a pic of that when it's done, so I can copy it when I finally earn my 70.3.  Great idea!

So I have a rest week this week.  Doesn't really feel like I've earned it but I did just do three weeks of base.

I'm running a 5K this weekend.  Its actually scarier for me to run a 5K than to do a longer race (e.g. a half marathon).  I can go long at LT (HM pace) but I have a really hard time going all out or 20-ish minutes.  I know what my 5K time "should be" based on my training metrics but my 5K PR is WAY off that time.

Every now and again the feeling of your lungs and legs screaming at you is a good change of pace.

You know you are running a 5k correctly when you are in complete physical anguish the entire time. Although slow as sh-- my HR did not dip below 170 the entire race on sunday and I wanted to hurl at the end. Good luck Kelly!

That's awesome Carrie! My racemedals are "prizes" at horse shows for s'mores and butter cup: my daughter's 4 foot high high robot horses, don't ask.

So he'll week is over for me. Settled another big case yesterday, unlike the trial I settled Friday, this was a case I wanted to settle. One of the many things people do not understand about lawyers/lawyering is the technique involved in setting up cases and witnesses. This case involved all kinds of sleazy behavior on t he part of partners of my clients, but not my clients directly. The case was able to settle because of a long and complicTed strategy. My clients were pissed at me for a year (why is this so expensive, no result) understanding for about a year (okay your strategy seems to be working but we want to counter sue, your not being aggressive enough) to humping my leg yesterday. No matter how many times I explained everything they wouldnt believe me, until they saw the results...... Pretty similar to endurance sports, funny huh? Time to plan 2012. Anyone want to be my patron for about 300k I will be your personal triathlete, what do. What do you say?

I'm energized until I get to work and then I'm like "Damn I'm back here again."  Saps all my energy.  LOL.

My computer is jacked up.  It has a million viruses...haven't been able to log on here until this morning.  My husband got us a new Mac for Christmas.  I think we may have to open up that bad boy early.

Rudy - Fantastic 5k PR!!  Congratulations, dude!

Jeff - Keep at it and set a new goal.  You were sick for a month, for crying out loud!!  Congratulations on settling your case (LOL at your partners humping your leg).

Michele - Way to get the entire family involved.  I think that's great!

Kelly - Good luck this weekend!!!

Jeff (rizer) - Great job in your cycling race!!

Quick question.....my legs are really fatigued and sore from all the high intensity cycling, running, and lifting.  I almost don't feel like I'm recovering adequately.  I'm getting plenty of sleep and I eat a high quality diet.  Is this a matter of fueling pre- and post- workout?  Or do I need to take a day off or something?

Thanks!

Ideally you eat a carby meal 45 mins to an hour pre workout (I often squeeze it in 15 minutes pre) and then a mixed carb/protein meal post.  If you think your body needs a day off take it.  I'd say be realistic and if you think you're overdoing it than start to scale back on the least important activity (I'd say lifting).

BTW I hit 315 on squats yesterday and ran 9 miles.  My legs are shot today.  LOL.
