What do you guys use to get the chlorine out of your hair after swims? I can't seem to find the swimmer shampoo I used to use when I was in college. My hair is beginning to dry out. Please help!! Hair .... What hair? I think that I had some years ago but I forgot where it went |

What do you guys use to get the chlorine out of your hair after swims? I can't seem to find the swimmer shampoo I used to use when I was in college. My hair is beginning to dry out. Please help!! Well, you could always shave it off. Or, I suppose you could use some clarifying shampoo.... Also, before you swim, wet your hair down with water. That keeps it from absorbing less chlorine. (Or, as Cat said, you can wear a swim cap. But I hate them, personally.) They do still make special shampoo to remove the chlorine, also. I can't remember the name though. Edited to add: Should have kept reading. Mila remembered the name of it. |

What do you guys use to get the chlorine out of your hair after swims? I can't seem to find the swimmer shampoo I used to use when I was in college. My hair is beginning to dry out. Please help!! I have a 'clarifying' champoo... most major brands have a version of it and it stops my hair from: a) drying out b) turning green I also use a REALLY good conditioner in the shower as well as a leave in conditioner/detangler everytime I wash my hair And use a swim cap in the pool... they are annoying but it took my AGES to get my hair 'presentable' again so.... ive been using this strategy for a few years and its served me well (even though I havent been in the pool much this year!)
Stop using it! I want to see you with green hair. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Whips, Cattle Prods & Tiaras (Four-Is-More Challenge) Cat - it's actually a little-know and well-kept secret that you can use any shampoo that has the letter-stuff in it - I want to say EPSM, but I don't think that is right. Look in the ingredients, and there should be four letters buried among the other chemicals and good-smelling cr@p. That's the stuff that gets the chlorine out. My former spouse has blonde hair and used to swim and it worked for her. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Whips, Cattle Prods & Tiaras (Four-Is-More Challenge) Okay, I'll fess up, but first I ask you to please be gentle. I hurt. A lot. But I didn't train. I went backpacking this weekend for the first time in far too many years. It was gloriously wonderful (except for some parts), and I loved it. But I ended up, through a convoluted mess of events, carrying almost 60 pounds. And hiking with an idiot who was far slower than the 4-year-old. So a three hour easy hike in took five hours. With 60 pounds on my back (and, more importantly, on my still-recovering feet). Then I got up the next morning, shouldered the pack, summited, and headed off downhill. I left the rest of the gang at the top so I could make it down in time to sleep. See, I work night shift, so I had to get to bed. I was less than half a mile from home, hurtin' like a demon, eager for my toothbrush, a shower, and my bed (that order), when my cell went off. My best friend, whom I had left at the summit with her 8 yo daughter and the idiot, twisted her ankle badly. I'm on SAR and know wilderness first aid, so I grabbed my SAR gear (insanely reduced to lighten the load as much as possible), almost cried looking at my toothbrush and shower, and headed out. Got up to her, got her down off the mountain (she was almost there, the woman is made out of steel), then had to get her dog and daughter safely to her parents' house and her to the ER. Oh yeah, remember how I work nights? Yeah, I had to be to work early. I went straight from the ER to work. On zero sleep. After backpacking. So I will present myself for appropriate punishment, but please be gentle because I hurt all over. If it is any consolation, I've already done two pushup sessions this morning, and it just turned 5 am. Edited by Slugger 2008-09-02 4:15 AM |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Whips, Cattle Prods & Tiaras (Four-Is-More Challenge) Oh! I forgot the best news, though - my feet don't hurt!!!! YAY!!!!! They are still just the teensiest bit tender, but they don't hurt! I am taking the morning off of any real activity and am going to go for the first of my new running plan that involves going all the way back to the start of a couch-to-10K program and rebuilding sloooowly. YAY!!! Time for more pushups. Whee! Edited to say the TENDONS don't hurt. The bottoms hurt like evil demons that got crushed under 60 pounds for two days over crazy rocky terrain that mauled them to a pulp. But the tendons, that I have been nursing for three weeks, don't hurt. Much. :) Edited by Slugger 2008-09-02 4:14 AM |

Nothing can take the place of 100% Kona or Kauai coffee but Starbucks is about the only thing robust enough to come close. I love their Sumatra blend. Extra bold and strong as all get out! Get's me moving in the morning!! |

I'm in the middle of nowhere so it appears I can order it online. I currently do wear a cap, but since I have curly hair it just seems to be getting more dried out with every swim. Maybe I will consider shaving it. It's a thought. |

In Colorado the is a chain called Peaberry which is much smoother. Plus they take a dig at Seattle's Best and Starbucks. Their slogan is "Buy Colorado, it really ticks off Seattle." Well I think it is funny anyways. |
