Not sure who is left here. Wanted to say thanks to John but haven't heard from him in a while.

Just over 3 weeks until my next tri - longer this time at 750/30/7. Then another shorter one two weeks later. (600/20/4). Get this. The ex is going to do it with me. Yeah, way to move in to my world buddy. And my son will do his first tri later in the day.

How is everyone?

Ah, I've been really busy the last couple weeks, and the last few days I've been in Colorado for vacation and the Rattlesnake Sprint.

It wasn't too bad. The altitude difference really affected me more than I thought. The distances were 500m swim, 12 mile bike and 5k run.

Swim : Pretty good. My dad timed me at 8:00 for the total swim, then a long run to T1. I was a bit dizzy in T1, so I had a long time in there.

Bike : Pretty decent. I held 18.5mph on a fairly hilly course, which was about 2 mph slower than I wanted to go. Altitude was hitting me some, I felt like I had more in me, but couldn't get it going. Ended up with a split somewhere around 39 mins, goal was 33.

Run : Again, just couldn't get it going. Ran through a feeling like my calf wanted to cramp (And paying for it now, calf has a nice long tender spot), and ended with a run of around 25:00. Wanted it a bit lower, but not too bad.

Overall time, 1:16:49, I was 13/40 in my age group, and 65 out of 596 overall. Not too bad a race, but my goal time of anything sub 1:10 would have put me on the podium in my AG. I don't know how much time I lost to the altitude, but next year I'll be a bit better prepped. This last month was a bit haphazard for me.

Overall a little disappointed, but still a good showing.

Hows the gang doing?

John

I had a race on Sunday that went okay - but another really terrible swim. I keep flip-flopping on the idea of pulling out of the OLY I'm registered for on September 6th. I know I can do the bike and run no problem, but 1500m is going to be really tough for me to swim. I tried OWS today and I noticed that I got a little dizzy - and it felt familiar to when I was in the race. I thought maybe it was part of my panicking at the time, but maybe it's physiological? I'm going to look into earplugs and see if maybe that helps.

I think I will end up doing the race. I've come so far and I don't want to just give up now - but I also realize there may be a chance that I take a boat back to shore. As long as I don't drown, I'll be happy!

Try the earplugs, a lot of people say they help with the dizziness. You could also try some dramamine as well in a practice session and see if that helps.

Well, I still don't have earplugs but I'm definitely getting some. I went OWS today and although I struggled a bit to start, the further I went, the easier it got. I really think that the OLY swim will end up being easier than the sprint swim just because I'll have time to work into it. It took me ~600m today to feel comfortable. And I still need to work on my sighting a lot!

I am definitely doing the race and feeling a lot better about it. I won't definitely won't drown and might actually do okay!

That's great, Jenna! One thing that might help is on race day, getting in the water and doing 100-300 as a warmup, just letting your body get used to the water. Might cut down that 600 to a bit less.

Hi everyone, I have a week until race #3. Last day of masters swim club was today. So I'm on my own until next group starts up again in October.

Feeling good. Did a brick last night and a swim this morning. Ride tomorrow. Ironically I pulled my calf running for the bus the other day. So getting a massage today to help it out.

Ouch, Fi! Were you wearing heels? Hope the massage helps. I'm going to get one next week before my race too.

I signed up for the August 4-is-more challenge and committed to 40 hours of training - but forgot about some mini-vacations I had planned with the family. Now I'm going like gangbusters to catch up in my final week. I have 90mins up to 3 hours every day through Monday, plus a soccer tournament this weekend! I am going to be sore... At least it will be easy to taper before the OLY though.

Good luck to everyone else in the end of the season!

I picked up one more sprint, and a 5K for December, so that will be fun.  Now I just have to hope that my boss gives me the time off from work.  Working weekends is great for me being able to be at home to watch the baby while my wife works during the week, but it sucks for trying to get to races.

My season came to an early end today when I broke my ankle playing soccer. I really, really wanted to tear it up at the OLY next weekend, but it's just not going to be possible.

Good luck everyone else!

Jenna. So sorry to hear about your ankle. I'm sure you would of teared up the oly.
Only good think is that a break heals much better (and stronger) than torn ligaments. So it shouldn't affect you for next season. Or was there other damage as well?

Thinking of you.

Nice race, way to push at the end.

It seems like our group has pretty much disbanded.  So take care everyone, and good luck with your future races.

Also,
THANKS JOHN, you were super helpful, and didn't hurt anyone too badly with your scary fire skull head of doom...Not that I wouldn't have been in full support of beatdowns by a flaming skull mind you.
