Well I unfortunately threw my back out last night in the garage.  Absolutely no training for 7-10 days and I spending the next two days laying on my living room floor.  This sucks!!!

Nice run......I cannot wait until I can run 24 miles and not be sore

Houdini used ice baths.  Worked for him.  I've never tried that.  The thought of getting in the cold pool twice a week deters me from going colder.  I would like to try it but ide bags seem to be enough for me.  I'm almost pain free after hard rides and runs if I ice right away.

I had another really good race tonight.  Unsure of official time.  My cyclometer and my Power Tap both say I PR'd but I'll wait to see.  I had a friend who works at a bike shop and who has taken the courses on bike fitting work with me this week on my TT bike.  I think it really helped.  My left leg keeps wanting to turn outward.  My coach who was there (and wins routinely, holds the course record at over 25 mph for 12.5 miles, thank you very much: oh, and he's in his early 50s) says my leg swings out away from the top tube.  Says its from a tight IT band.  Suggested foam rollers.  Never heard of them but I'll give them a try.

I PR'd again on a timed run on Saturday, charity event assisted by the run club.  28:28.  Still not a speed demon but that's 3 minutes off this year which is a great result.

Feeling pretty ready for the tri on 10/4.  Open water swim tomorrow if the weather holds.

Glad you all are still posting.

Congratulations, superstars!  3 girls, low cholesterol, PR beaten...sooo awesome! I'm still on the lam from being good to myself, but planning on another comeback tomorrow morning.

After a long hiatus, Christy (crdvorscack) is back and logging workouts.  (She was a member of Mitch's preseason mentoring group, and is a cancer survivor).  If you know her, and even if you don't, please take a minute to inspire her and welcome her back to BT.

PR on the Tuesday night TT is official.  21.95 mph, under 34 minutes for 12.5 miles.  My coach was over 26 mph in his early 50s.  My first one in May was just over 19 mph.  I'll take progress like that.

Friday is a rest day, then two big workouts on Sat. and Sun., then taper for the Oct. 4th tri.  I feel pretty ready!

Happy Birthday Scott!

I have been out of commision for about a week... head cold turned into a bad chest cold.  I finally got some much needed rest, plenty of meds, and seem to have it whipped.

I hope everyone is doing well, and have a great week!  I am refreshed, refocused and heading into the final 4 week stretch of training before the two week taper and the big show!

Happy Monday Y'all!

Happy B-day Scott.

September has been filled with nothing but work.  I have only had 3 days off the whole month and I am working 12 hour days.  I a looking forward to getting back into a workout routine.  I love to read how everybody has been kicking A$$ and taking names.  Keep up the great work.  You are all awesome.

Thanks for the good wishes.  Next celebration comes Friday, Oct. 2.  Sobriety date = 21 years plus International LiveSTRONG Day.  Wear Yellow.

I'm nearly over a head cold. Alka Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine has allowed me to get through w/o missing a workout.  Tapering now.  One last easy bike ride.  Then headed to Rend lake Illinois for the Last Chance Triathlon on Sunday. 1000 yard swim, 21 mile bike (up from the earlier posted 18.5 miles) and a 3.1 mile run.  Wetsuit legal.  Should do well.

Any of you guys use GPS?  Thinking about a 305 versus the new 310.  $200 difference but seems worth it.

Great week!

Ice.

Congrats on the sobriety.... 21 years huh?  That is keeping that monster in check!  I wear yellow everyday!  But, Friday will be a Happy Livestrong day, nonetheless!

Good luck Scott ~ you are bound to rock the race!

Garmin... 305 all the way!  The 310 is water proof, but loses signal when you swim with it on your wrist.  So the benefit is kinda lost there.  Put the 305 under your swim cap and you have a 310

I have read that battery life is supposed to be better with the 310, but I personally have not had any issues 26.2 or 70.3 with the 305 running out of juice.  The IM I will be saving it for the run... so no worries there either.

Dude! What happened to your back??  I just threw mine out too, but the better shape I'm in caused a much shorter recovery (at least that's what I'm attributing it to).

And would you believe I have a degree in Geography (lot of GIS work back when the devices were gi-normous) and don't have a 305 yet???

I do have a geocaching-quality Garmin - that's a lot of fun, but doesn't work so well for running.

Race is done!  Last Chance Triathlon, Rend Lake Illinois. Great ride. Great fun.  I NEVER got passed on the bike.  And, I blew by many people who had gotten out of the water ahead of me.  I had two people - both young guys - say something to me about the bike skills.  One took the time to tell me as he passed me on the run.  Lots of hills on the course.  Two long flat bridges.  But the rest was up and down.  Fun ride.

My swim was 23.37 for 1,000 yards.  Good.  T1 was slow.  I get out of the water woozy.  Rocks under foot, then slick mud then sand.  I had a long run up to the transition area in the parking lot and then off with the wetsuit, on with the HR monitor, the helmet, glasses, and gone on the bike which was 1:03.26.  Averaged 88% FTP.  (Is that good for that distance?)   Cadence in the high 80s.  Stayed arrow.  Official speed was 19.9 mph.  PT showed a little faster.  I probably could do that course better if I had more than one practice on it.  I was probably not as efficient as I could have been, probably could be better in the hills.  But I was passing young people in the hills.  What a kick that was!

Then T2 was quick, 1:11.  The run was down a ravine and back up.  I did it in 31:37.  Nothing to pace me.  (I'm getting the Garmin.)  I was happy with the time, though.  It was better than my best stand-alone 5K time at the start of the season.  I think I could have pushed harder.

Total time.  2:04:55.  First place 55-60. But, not many in my age group.  I don't know what I was overall. The first sheet I saw said 17, another said low 20s.  I'm waiting to see what they post.

Congrats Scott on a nice race and great season. You should be proud of your accomplishments.I had a busy weekend. Got to run a small 5K in west Houston with my 7 y.o. daughter on Saturday. Lots of fun. She talked the whole time. Tried to pace her, but she told me that was boring, so she would run all out, pass a bunch of people and then stop, look at the scenery, introduce herself to other runners and then doi it again. She placed second in her age group and was pretty happy to get a medal for her efforts. Lots of fun for me to do it with her.I'm done with my tri season. Had hoped to get a couple of more races in october, but conflicts with either my wife's schedule or mine means I'm out. Its just us in Houston, no family back-up, so with three young kids and both of us working makes finding time a challenge. Focusing on building my run in preparation for the Houston half marathon in January and helping my wife get her career on track. Planning on doing more tri's next year. Still working on finding balance between all of my commitments. Probably the most challenging part of this thing we do.

On the Garmin discussion, I barely have room in my swim cap for my HEAD!

I'm thinking I like the waterproof feature whether it picks up in the water or not.  I can't see myself checking my pace on the swim anyway.  I'd like to have the pace feature on the run plus the mapping for the ride.  I do wonder about the wireless Power Tap feature and watts.  But I have a wired PT now and I don't intend to change it.  For one, too expensive and for another, I don't want interference from other Power Taps when I ride with a group.

Looking for a good deal on the 310, I think.

AMAZING, Scott!!!

BTW, I finally updated my goals - both long and short-term.

I have one v. important long-term goal: Syracuse HIM, 2010!  All of this will begin first with an aggressive 5K approach which will lead to a 10K PR on 1/1/2010, on to Olympic-distance training through the beginning of my regular tri season (can't believe I can say that!) and then on to some serious HIM training for that important 9/19/2010 date!~

9/20 was my sister-in-law's birthday.  9/19 will be the HIM.  I will celebrate her and this accomplishment on 9/20/2010 with a HUGE piece of cake !

You go Grace!  2010 somewhere sometime HIM for me too.  Have to put my head together with my coach to figure out the timeline.  Could be Michigan, could be Illinois.  Then 2011, IM.

Hey Roch...just too much golf and not enough stretching of the back.  How funny is that???  I basically give up golf to train for tris and then when I go on my yearly golf trip I screw up my back when I get back...next year, no golf trip, just triathlon training!!!

Grace, you keep updating those goals and keep knocking them out!!!  I see an IM in your future....

Scott, way to rock it!!!  I am going to look for hills next summer to train for IMWI around here and I think I know who to ask

I finally have finished all of my pre-triathlon commitments and can get back to training.  I think my back has recovered, bouts of stiffness but no pain, and I am ready!!!  I hope everyone keeps on here form time to time so we can keep checking up.
