jgerbodegrant -What are you doing for the piriformis? I have the same issues with flare ups also. The only thing that seems to help is stretching.

Stretching, foam roller, something similar to a foam roller called a quadballer.  Been doing alot of that stuff and it helps.  Went to the chiropractor for active release therapy for several weeks but have not been able to go for the last 2 weeks. No running and very easy spinning on bike 2-3 times a week.  Tons of swimming which does not seem to bother it-other than several kick sets with zommers on Monday that have caused a flare up.  I have decided to stay off the bike until next week to see if I can get over the hump-as it feels better I tend to push harder on the bike and then end up with flare up. One step forward and two back. I am just not very patient with recovery!!!!!!

When I say flare up it is almost like a tight/tweaked hamstring type of pain that may be all the way down the back of the leg to just behind the knee.  Frustrating, already marked the HIM I was doing in May off the calender.  Maybe a local Olympic in late April if I can get back to running in the next couple of weeks.  Guess I will shoot for HIM in the Fall since this injury has really screwed up my early season plans.

Got my speedwork in on the treadmill this morning. After taking Brewer for a 30 minute run to work up, went to the Y and did 4 x 800 @ 7:00 - 7:30 pace with a 400 cool down between 800's. Didn't want to over do it since it was my first speed workout of the year. Sure beats trying to do speedwork outside on a track when it is cold and dark outside, and am not even sure if the track is clear of snow yet.

Well, looks like you are at least going about it correctly (for the most part).  I am in the same boat....cancelled my have mary in may due to issues with running.  Also...had the same issue last night when I did a couple kick sets with the zoomers.  My butt/upper thigh was throbbing on the right side.  Do you get it in both legs or just one?

That's quite the pace!  Let us know how you feel tomorrow.  How's your nasal deal holding up?

On an aside....how do you guys simulate hills while riding the trainer?  I am still stuck inside on my bike and want to get some hill type workout in.

Sinuses are doing better, at least I can breath through my nose now.

As for the trainer, have you tried raising your front tire higher? The best thing you could do would be to get a Computrainer. I got one a few years ago and love it. You can pick a course to bike, and if the course has a hill it gets harder to peddle.

Yeah...have raised the tire, but it's not that realistic, ya know?  I want to "encounter" the hills during my 2.5 hr long ride.  Some people suggest getting spinervals and turning it on during the middle of your workout.  I might try that.

Just the right leg which is the one that has been bothering me.  No soreness or other issues with left leg after kick sets.

After 2.5 hours. 5 direction changes and 168 laps, I finished a 14 mile run yesterday!

A 16 miler next week. If the weather continues to stay nice (40+ deg) I plan to move this next LSD OUTSIDE!

Wow, nice job. Don't think I could do 14 miles inside. What do you use for a distraction? Besides the guy with his underwear sticking out.

The iPod is key. Before a run, I'll create a new playlist w/some favorite tunes plus throw in a new podcast or two.

A busy track helps, too. A good mix of walkers, runners and yes, dudes w/their shirts tucked into the back of their underwear helps me keep pace and makes for some good people watching. Plus I know I'm not a great runner but I'm still competitive. I don't like to get lapped. But it feels good to see someone that has passed you multiple times, cut out of their run after 20-30 minutes. 'Cuz hey, guess what? I'm gonna be out here for 2.5 hours. How do you like them apples?

All I can say is WOW!  That is some serious distance inside.  I got bored after 7 miles outside...to double that inside would be quite a challenge.

We are riding outside tomorrow.  It's supposed to be in the 40s and sunny...hopefully not much wind!

Great job!  That takes some real will power and dedication.   Hope you can find some entertainment when you head outside.  Maybe you can hire underwear guy to swing through your route periodically to keep you motivated!!

haha!  here's to underpants man!

Anyone getting good weather today?  We did 3 hours, about 47 miles this morning.  It was absolutely gorgeous out!  We started with about 32 degrees, but ended up with mid forties...unbeatable for March!

We have been having good weather here too..  I know a few guys who headed out on the roads with their bikes.

Me - I had a 17 mile run that ended up a little shy of 17 basically cause we got back to the club and no desire to run in circles for .3

Went ok - did endurolytes tablets and sport beans and water.  Stomach was better but I think i didn't get in enough calories so my legs tightened bad in the last mile or so.

How do you like those sport beans? They are a bit tart for me, but they seem to have worked in the past.

Hope everyone else has been able to get outside and enjoy the nice weather. My runs are usually before 5am so I don't get to enjoy the 50's we had yesterday, but its still better than below 0.

Thats fast! 4 minutes puts you at 1:20/100.  I might be able to do 1 all out 100 in 1:20. Maybe someday I can string a few together at that speed.

I did a continuous swim of a mile last week for the first time in months. Was able to sneak in under 30 minutes at 29:45. 1:41/100 yards. Not great but a 3 minute improvement since Fall 2009.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks!  It did feel fast, but I can't hold that speed for any distance.  Right now my average 100 over 1500 is about 1:48.  I guess it will come in time.  Good to hear that you got back in the pool.
