Sorry about that.

I know of three races so far.

First race is the Boulder Bolder in Boulder, CO Memorial day. (10k road race)

The second race: The Disney Wine & Dine Sept30th/Nov1st 1/2 marathon through the park at 10pm.

The third race: Savannah Rock-n-Roll 1/2 marathon Nov.5th.

But I see that there are other triathlon's I might sign up for as the year goes on. The Dragonfly Tri June 18th in MS is looken pretty good.

Also doing several smaller races locally, like 5k's. The next one of those is May 21st for Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Monroe, LA.

I just bought some new shoes and I was wondering how long it takes to break in a set of bicycle shoes.

I rode in the new shoes for about an hour tonight (on a Cycle Ops fluid trainer) and after about 15 my feet tingled a little bit like they were falling asleep. The shoes were not overly tight, not a cause of concern I think but wanted to ask the question.

new set up is Shimano 105 pedals and Bontrager Infrim shoes (three bolt, two velcro straps one ratchet)

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hey all!

Where is everyone?

Dub - will add your races and repost.  As for the shoes, as part of my bike fitting they adjusted my cleats (put a spacer on one side moved and moved cleats forward) and if you were recently fitted you may want to go back and have them adjusted.  If you haven't you may want to look at the position of the cleats (to far forward, back, or angled).  When I had that issue adjusting the cleat and a little more time on the bike helped me.  May the others will have some feedback also.

Okay, is anyone doing the challenge?  I started it kind of quick so let me know.

Well, school year end is coming up and spending a lot of time at even functions (band concerts, awards ceremonies, etc) and its making training hard to do.  Ended up getting up at 5am today to get my trainer ride in.  Going to pay for it later but not much I can do.  Managed a quick swim at lunch today.  Tomorrow is swim/bike.

Hoping to do a sprint on Sunday but things are so busy I am not sure I can make it.

I'm back.  I was in Nashville on business this week and the hotel I was staying at had crappy internet.  I'll try to catch up on the challenge this weekend.

Sorry I've been MIA. My race is next weekend and between training, work and kids- I feel like I might be cracking up-lol. My son graduates high school on the 19th, my dd has dance recital the 20-22 ( and I make all the bows for the finale number for 135 students) and my first tri is Sunday the 22nd. Can I tell you who or where I am- probably not so don't ask-lol.

I haven't done the challenge yet, though I really wanted to. I just haven't had one free second this entire last week.

I did go to an OWS tonight and we swam the course distance. I did it!!! I really was about to totally panic and pull out of the race because I was so worried that I wasn't ready for the swim. And to be totally honest, I'm definitely not where I would like to be. However, I was able to finish the distance and within the alloted time frame so I feel much better about the whole thing. I now know that I can do it. Albeit very slowly, but I can do this. I am very excited.  I think the time was somewhere between 15 -18 minutes which is almost double my pool time. So major room for improvement but considering I just started swimming- I was satisfied.

Anyway,

I probably won't be on a whole lot this next week, but I'll do my best to contribute.

Day 6 is one leg balance. Six total minutes. If you lose your balance don't start over. Just add your time. Use one leg or change when you topple. Stand on one foot - other leg straight (if possible) in front of you 12 or so inches off the floor ( bent leg is ok ). Arms straight out to your sides.

Day 7 is crunches

Day 8 is push ups

Have fun!!!!

So my first day with 12 days of summer(tuesday), I had never done a plank before, could only do about 15 seconds. Yesterday, day 5, I managed 47 seconds, hoping for the full minute today. Thanks for the challenge. Cold and wet again today in Michigan, blea. Good luck to all racing today.

Thanks all!!

Turns out I was 16th out 100 on the swim!  RR coming up but swim went well T1 went really well, bike was good but didn't hit my goal, T2 was a problem and the run was pretty decent.

Randy, Mike, and Shelly - you have races next week according to the schedule.  I want to hear your taper plans and your race strategy (great way for you to learn and for others to learn from you).

Hey all -

I have to encourage everyone to try BAy to Breakers some time.  Its not a great race to run fast (too many people) but it is crazy fun and a huge spectacle!  Its probably the most fun I've ever had running.  Over 100k people - as far as you can see there are people running, walking, dancing, and partying - all of the walkers were in costumes and on the run there were at least 10 naked dudes (not that its something you want to see).   I had a great time with my sister - her goal was to run the whole thing and we succeeded.  Also went out for some great food and a little shopping at Nordstorm Rack - all of the fun city stuff that we dont have here in Boise.

Hope that everyone had a great weekend.  I'm going to try and get back into regular training again this week.

OK so I've been struggling for the past 4 weeks with a really sore knee.  And it was getting worse to the point that it wakes me up at night.  Sooo, I go to the ortho doc today and the diagnosis was tied runners knee (back to my last race) - I get a shot and some topical creme and leave.

When I got home I did some looking on-line and found this is common with runners, particularly so with heel strike runners.  After more looking I found a pretty good video showing the virtues of mid-foot and forefoot striding vs. the heel strike.

When I first started racing, I probably wouldn't have given this one second's worth of consideration, but after the past month's pain ... I'm payin' attention now!

Anyway, I thought this might be beneficial and visually one can see how much more efficient the POSE stride is ... here's the vid:

Great race report.  I'm super impressed with your 7 minute drop in overall time, especially on a sprint race!  Way to go.

Since I just started running last year, I read a couple of books before starting, one of them was Chi running. It was good for me to start out with a mid-foot stride, so far have stayed injury free which I was worried about due to my size.

Good luck with your transitioning, seems like changing the way we do something when we've done it a certain way for a long time is hard.
