I hope the "sickies" name is not coming back.  I had a major allergy flare last night(hope allergies) and it got worse overnight.  Woke up to swim even though I only slept about 2 hours.  Hoped the swim would open things up, but it has gotten worse all day so I'm hoping its not another cold or virus.

Hey Team.

Coach - sorry to hear you are feeling bad - hope you are ok.

Court - I have a strong tummy and can eat just about anything I want to be honest. I do like a nice whole grain bagel, peanut butter and banana

Jason - I think the thin pad tri shorts - that is what I like anyway.

Scott - what do you see in IM's - are people changing to a thicker pad? If so, when and how?

Deb - is your alarm set to get up and watch the royal wedding?

I saw the doctor today to follow up on the visit with the hear specialist - I have to go get hooked up to a 24 hour blood presure monitor tomorrow morning at 11:30. It is going to stay on me for 24 hours and will take my blood presure every 20 minutes. This means I am going to have to stay away from working out when I have it on and will have to take it easy. I have no idea how the hell I am going to do that - sitting down and taking it easy is not in my make up.

I could have had it put on this afternoon but decided I would rather get a short bike in and a small swim instead (which I did). Anyway, I am going to be grumpy tomorrow with that thing on me, I am sure of it. I have decided I will get up and do a run and lift weights early so I get something done tomorrow. After I get the damn thing off, my doctor thinks, based on the bicuspid heart valve and possible thickening of the aeorta, he may have to recomend some very mild blood presure meds to make sure my heart stays healthy into my old age. I told him the only way I am going on meds is if it's absolutely the last resort. He has assured me it will not slow me down or hinder me in anyway. He better be right. Long story short, they want a more accurate reading of my BP so I can have a long term strategy to make sure my heart stays healty. My doc thinks that since I have had no issues with the heart valve so far, acting now will ensure it will last a long time, but I am just not happy about possible meds - I hate it! Yell

Have a great night everyone.

KC

Eta - OMG, KC you make me laugh. hhhmmm blood pressure monitoring for my ticker, OR a workout? 'Can we do the BP tomorrow?'. ...... You are at heart a TRUE triathlete. Laughing

Good Morning Team.

Coach - hope you are doing better this morning

Kevin - how come no one is mentioning the Wings?

Deb - priorities right? LOL

Who has races this weekend?

Tim - I know you do - good luck, you are going to kill it!

Jen - Iron Girl Las Vegas - awesome - I am so excited for you - enjoy it Smile

Off for a run and a lift before I get all wired up for the next 24 hours Cry. I am trying to think of things to do. I think I may just take a few hours and work on changing flats and maybe start working on laying out my transition area to get some practice.

Have a great day everyone.

KC

question- i am looking at tri shorts for my race.  some shorts have very, very thin pad (almost like an extra layer of fabric) while others have a thicker pad.  i have heard in HIM and IM races it is important to be comfortable and take time to change clothes if needed.  my question is... get the thin pad shorts and just run in them or get thicker and change.  i am sure this is a personal preference but i worry that the thin pad might be uncomfortable on the bike.  any suggestions?

thanks in advance.

I finally broke down and tried on tri shorts at t local store.  They had  Zoot, Seguoi, and Tri Performance.  All were around the same price $60-$75, and each had at least 2 different lengths.  I liked the way the zoot 8 inch felt on.  But ended up goig witht a longer Seguoi that had a bit of a thicker pad and pockets more to the back - I thought it would be easier to reach than front pockets while biking.

I tried them out last night on the trainer.  Not too bad compared to my old cheapy bike shorts.  I think after riding with them for a while I will get comfortable, just like I did with my bike shorts after a handful of rides.

Caleb - I lived in O.P. for a few months while training for my first job out of college.  I loved the area and K.C.

KC - Good luck with the testing.

It was impossible to avoid the royal wedding.  My favorite part of the day was my wife coming up with personalized royal names for her and the kids from something she found on facebook.  Use you Grandmothers first name, your first pet's name, and the first street you lived on.  Then you become "Lady ________  __________ of _________"

After school today heading down to Louisville for a golf weekend with the guys.  Playing 2 Fuzzy Zeoller courses sat and sunday.  Since the guys I am playing with don't get started until late (around 10 am)  I am going to take advantage of being near the hills of my IM course and ride for a few hours before the rounds.

Have a good weekend!

KC- will pray the testing goes well

Brian- enjoy the golfing!  Looks like maybe okay weather this weekend?

Another rest day today, but may end up going for an easy 20 minute run.  I'm finding that my swim and bike are improving, but the run seems stuck at the same pace.

Have some big rides this weekend, hope the weather will hold--and the wind will go away.

Last day at the VA hospital today (yay!), then switching over to the cancer service at the main hospital.  Busier, but good surgeries and lots to learn.

Hey David,

I am a 26 year old gay male and pretty active. This is my first triathlon. I'm signed up for Chicago's olympic tri in august. I start training this monday with Team2endAids. I'm a Corporate Accountant at the bike component manufacturer SRAM in Chicago. I am also in a Masters of Science of Accountancy program with the University of Phoenix. I love staying busy and training is definitely going to be good for me. Currently I am an early morning gym rat 5-6 times a week. I'm into cardio but often focus half my time on lifting. I am a strong biker and runner, but swimming will be my challenge. I can swim, but I am all arms so technique is what I need to work on. I've never done a marathon but have done the Mens Health Urbanathlon a few times already and that is over 11 miles of urban running and obstacles. I just bout a Fuji Aloha 1.0, a triathlon bike so I'm anxious to hit the road to adapt to that style riding compared to a road bike and spin class. I'm looking forward to this forum as a way to share questions and aches and pains.

Cheers,

Justin

Welcome to the group Justin!

I just tried my new Specialized on the road today!  All I can say is unbeleivable!!  To bad I had a head wind on the ay back, but it helps with training I guess.  Can't wait to take it out again!

Good Afternoon Team .

Justin - Hi and welcome to BT.com, nice to meet you.

Brian - thanks for the well wishes on the testing and have a great time golfing my friend. I am seriously jealous but happy for you.

Mary - Thanks for the well wishes and good luck with the change over in locations.

Keith - must be an awesome ride, enjoy it.

Deb - did you enjoy the wedding? I know you were watching.

Ok team, I got my run and lifting in this morning Smile before I made the trip to get hooked up to the contraption that is currently on my body Cry. It is a perfect afternoon and I can't do anything - I should be on the golf course - but no - I have this monitor squeezing my left arm every 30 minutes and it is going to be doing it for 24 hours (stared at noon today). It cuts down to every hour starting at 10 tonight so I can fall asleep only to be awaken every hour when it takes a reading - serious bummer - no sleep for me tonight! Oh well, hopefully it allows for the heart doc and family doc to figure out how to keep the ticker ticking and me doing Tri's until I am 80 LOL.

That is all I have for now - I am sure I will be back on a few times during the rest of the day and night since I don't have anything else I can do (like run, bike, swim or golf), so I guess I will get through the rest of the day learning how to fix a flat Frown (which I hope I never have).

Coach I hope you are getting better.

Brian, hit them long and straight.

Tim and Jen - we will be thinking about you this weekend during your races. Jen, you are going to do a great job in the swim portion, just relax and enjoy.

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone.

KC

EDIT

PS - just looked at my watch, 20 more hours on this bloody machine Yell - opps, don't yell Kevin, your blood presure will go up!

Hi Everyone, I will catch up as this group moves so quickly.  Slept until noon today after a great cough syrup put me out.  Still feel like crap but will try to get out tomorrow and do a slow bike.  Deb I'm thinking my body missed that memo! :-)

Tim: Good luck with your run and just stay within yourself the first 20 or so miles then give it what you have left.  You will do great!!!!!

Good choice on the longer pair as its always nice to have more pockets on the longer rides/runs.  Holds gels/chomps perfectly.

In louisville be sure to ride the out and back section, no traffic with killer hills.

Good Morning Team.

Worst night of sleep ever with this blood pressure machine taking readings about every 40 minutes. I have 5 more hours until I get to take it off thank God. I am hoping for a bike and a swim today but I don't know if I am going to have the energy. Frown

I hope everyone has a great day doing whatever it is you do.

I've got to schedule a brick for myself this week.  How did yours feel?  I've got the Tough Mudder event next weekend.  10 miles, 28 obstacles at a ski resort.  Lokking forward to my first even of the new year.  5 weeks to go for my first tri!

I had planned to do my long run (14.5km or 9 miles) today, and my bike/cross training tomorrow.. then I got all ready (including filling the water bottles, getting dressed, etc.) before I realized the battery on my ipod was dead.  I'm meeting my mom for hot yoga just after lunch, and, from what I understand, you aren't supposed to run after hot yoga (something about risk of getting hurt), so I'm rethinking the plan.  I'm going to bike the run route today, then do the run tomorrow morning..

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Can't wait to hear from those racing this weekend. In your honor, I did a bike-run brick this morning. I started at 6:45 and finally finished at 8:30. 13.8 miles biking followed by 3.5 miles running. It felt great, and have me confidence that I can actually do the sprint coming up in two weeks. That is, if I don't drown in the swim leg first. Haha...not really.Anyway, KC, hang in there. You're almost done with that machine. Coach, feel better. As Mary and Jen said, no more sickies.
