Its good to hear that you moved up a level with your swimming, especially as you were already an acomplished swimmer.

Its a strange discipline, from the outside you would think there wasn't much to it but its a technical as hell.

I swam 1800m last night in 36 minutes, I used the evening to focus on my roll to breath movement, when I rolled to one side I made sure I never looked higher than the swim lane rope and on the other side I didn't look higher than the edge of the pool. It felt a lot more stream lined and I felt like I was gliding through the water a lot more.

I'm on a recovery week and my legs are definately thanking me for it, plenty of stretching and ice and ready for lite 10 mile on Sat and the following week ahead.

Happy St. Patrick's day folks!!

Belter morning 13 degrees Celsius, I managed a 12 mile run this morning 8.14pace and kept it to a 154 Av.bpm or should I say a high Z2 :p.

Stretching finished and about to take the kids to see the parades and enjoy a pint of guiness, I then have a friends birthday this evening so a bit of a shin dig!!

Hope everyone else is having a great day....

another bike to consider, but I've never heard of this brand. Is it worth looking at?

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/csw/bik/2907193166.html

He's asking $800 for the bike, wetsuit in my size, and bike shoes that are around my size but my feet are crazy hard to fit and I don't expect them to magically work.

48cm GT ZR2.0 w/ ultegra gears, new tires, aluminum frame w/ carbon fork, speedplay pedals, aero bars...found a few reviews online and as far as I can tell it came out in 2001 and was pretty decent then. At least vastly superior to any bike *I've* owned before. Wondering if I can talk him down any though...

Savage times there foggy!

I've strained a muscle in the top of my left calf, can't run on it at the mo and I feel like I've nipped a nerve in my right shoulder (fell a sleep on the couch) so no swimming.

Both should only take a couple of days of rest to heel, but I'm starting to feel like sickboy, always something.....

My main focus over the next two months is increasing my run mileage in prep for the marathon and continue to focus hard on my swim, if I have those two in order I feel I'll be able to cross the HIM finish line Sept. I'll have 12 weeks post marathon to slowly bring the bike back into the frame.

Robbie, good luck with the recovery...hope it goes quick so you can jump back on asap!

Foggy, damn that sounded like a tough 2nd half ride!

With this beautiful weather I've been going out for some 5-7k run's at lunch.  One co-worker joined me for a run (he's quick and his slow pace is 5 min/km...that's HOPEFULLY my race speed) and I kept up with him for about 4 km before I told him to go ahead and i'll meet him back at work.  It was nice to change up the tempo on a run.

I'm also getting a lot more comfortable on my Felt B14.  I've only been able to put in small rides here and there but my quad's are definitely getting use to be outdoors on a bike.  It's just not the same on a trainer indoors (my cheap trainer anyways).

Thanks 2paz.

A bit of both foggy, the main difference is less bike and more distance with my run.

I feel I've got in me around 18 miles at sub 9 min pace, so a few long runs thrown into the mix should help me towards my goal of a sub 4hr marathon.

I'll be running Dublin marathon at the end of October also so I get two bites at the cherry.

Don't worry dude, I bet most of us would have gotten in the truck at that point! :D

FoggyGoggles - 2012-03-18 8:16 PM

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. I went out to Stillwater, MN to get a couple of hours of biking in the hills in. The first half was amazing. I averaged 28mph for 20 miles and felt awesome. I was thinking "this training has paid off so well this winter." And then I did a u-turn and pointed the nose of the bike right into 21mph wind. Ugh! I was then averaging 15mph and working very hard for it. Even downhills were tough. Luckily my fiancé decided to take the truck out and look for me about 1:45 into the ride. (She went for a 5-mile run and said she wasn't moving when she hit the wind either.) She found me 30 miles into a 40 mile ride and pulled to the side of the road to see if I wanted a ride. Initially, I said heck no. And then I started doing the math. 10 miles more and I might hit 15 miles per hour if I'm working really hard.

I got in the truck.

Finally got spring break in my rear view and got back into full swing training again this week.  Felt good had a little 35 minute run Monday, 50 min. bike ride yesterday, and 40 minute run this morning.  Weather has been absolutely outstanding this week.  I really love spring here in Texas....too bad it doesn't last long.  Oh well hot weather....bad to train in but great for race preparation.

Foggy, I really feel you on that killer head wind.  Same thing happened to me on a training ride flying along thinking man, I'm really getting my bike legs back only to get slammed at the halfway point when I turned into the wind.  Yeah I'd have taken the truck too.  You're lucky, my wife wouldn't go out looking for me until it was dark...hahaha.

You guys can really put some times down when you run.  Talking sub 9's and what not makes my legs hurt.  Good job though.

I'm loving the 83 degrees in Michigan in mid March.  Today I got in a 60 mile ride followed by a 30 min brick run.  I'm starting to feel like I'm starting to get my legs back.

I can't wait until tomorrow.  I get to spend two hours here.  It's pretty cool place.  We will have 16 of us there.  They will have a coach there to analyze the info, check for dead spots in my pedal stroke, etc.  Also get to Vo2max and FTP test.

It's like Christmas for me.  I don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep tonight.

Super hero's lol....

Good to see the progression, I've frustratingly been in a bit of slum one of my teeth cracked at the startt of the week and just got it mended yesterday so hopefully get back to it.

My calf is still giving a bit of jip but I'm considering a half marathon in the morning, its about an 70 mile drive so I haven't made my mind up yet but its a nice challenge to get out of bed for.

Hopefully will have a something to report tomorrow, still going for my swim tonight as I've missed too much over the last couple of weeks.

As it turns out, superhero's do go there to train.  Unfortunately today I played the role of the damsel in distress.  I hung with the pack for the first hour and a half, but then got dropped like a bad habit.  Still had a great time though.

I have to work my 2nd job most of the weekend, and then drive to WI to help out my mom. Planning to fit a run in tomorrow morning, and then hopefully go for a bike ride with my mom too. She's starting from scratch for her first race, but she's been training for about a month now. This time last year she couldn't keep up with me on the bike at all, but since I'm so out of practice perhaps she'll have a slightly closer pace this time. :D

Anyone else on here doing Chain of Lakes in May?

Thats pretty cool that your mom is training for a race.

Have you gotten a chance to get the new ride out yet?

I could only imagine my mum coming out for a cycle with me, but cool that you can mix some family time with your training.

Josh did you get your Vo2 Max tested? I'd love to see what mine shows.

Just finishing 'Its not about the Bike' by Lance Armstrong, another great read, did you also see that he entered his first HIM and came SECOND in the race. Legend....

Nope I didn't end up getting the test done.  Everyone else I was there with didn't seem to want to wait to start riding until I got done testing which I understand, so I passed for now.  I am going back next week however to get it done.

I'm planning on getting Lance's book as soon as I get done with a couple of books I've already got.  I finished up "I'm here to win", "Be Ironfit" (for the second time), and am now working on "you are an Ironman" with "Born to run" on deck.
