Master 3486 Fort Wayne | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED It looks like everyone had killer races last weekend! Congrats to Jonathan who hit the podium and Darek and Vero for having super successful races and the Bayek clan for hitting the relay podium. Everyone represented the Junkies very well it seems. I'm looking forward to reading each of the RR once they're posted. |

Veteran 454 Cairo, GA | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Originally posted by wbayek Thanks Tony. I threw together a quick race report here. My pacing was very steady, and for the first time in a running race I was passing people the last 1/2 mile. I don't have age group placings yet as the results aren't out. This was a HUGE race for a 5k, maybe 1400 people. Warren- Congrats. I think that is a pretty AWESOME time. I ran a 5k this weekend with my kids in a stroller and we were barely starting the third mile at 22 minutes. |

Veteran 454 Cairo, GA | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Originally posted by BigDaddyD79 Well I made it through 3 days with a 10 month old. Wow. God bless every stay at home parent. Got my heat time for tomorrow. It's the final heat at 10:40. Smaller field then 2 weeks ago but 4-5 of the top 10 from that race are at this one. Hopefully I'm able to keep up, the course looks a little easier as its 100% flat out and back 3 loop course for the bike and dead flat 5k run. Weather should be nice, not to hot which should be good. Hoping for a similar bike time as last time, but hoping to take some time off everywhere else. Ill update tomorrow. My parents are meeting us at the race and my mom is coming back with us to watch the little one for the week. With the help I should have time to catch up on everyone's posts. Cheers! aahahahahahhahahahahaa..... Yes, and thank every hard working stay at home parent. I run a lot of 5k races with my 2 yr old and 4 yr old in a jogging stroller and the stroller is usually full of snacks, juice, bubbles, water guns, stickers, and more. Talk about having to keep them from complaining on a 30 minute run! I highly recommend that you try it! |

Veteran 454 Cairo, GA | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Happy Monday Junkies and Hope all you dads had a wonderful weekend! I have thoroughly enjoyed spending part of my morning reading up on everyone's races this weekend. It is getting me energized to attempt a PR in a 5k next Saturday. I have not been able to run a 5k for a PR since as far back as I can remember. I did a very hilly 5k this past weekend. My time - 32:17 while pushing two kids in a stroller up hills, through .25 miles of dirt then gravel, had to weave through some bike path cones/concrete blocks, and the finish was up a grueling hill!

Im sure I will be able to get out for a few with her this summer. Hopefully I can find a local 5k that I can run with her. |

Like Dirk said the Junkies were well represented this past weekend and did great at their races. Jen I don't know how you do it pushing that stroller around and running uphill and dodging cones and stuff but more power to you for being able to do those 5K's. I get tired just having to push the shopping cart around the store I can't imagine doing a 5K while pushing two kids around and trying to keep them happy at the same time much less make it look easy like you do. |

NH | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Originally posted by jgerbodegrant I will say, however, that Warren beat my bike split. I'm humbled to say the least!!!! A huge Happy Father's Day to all of you dad's out there. I'm so lucky to have two of my own and now a new Father-in-law. I'll see if I can get some pics posted up. For all of you that are friends with me on FB, my dad posted a few. I actually don't think that Warren and I got a picture together. Next time! Great pics, and Zack commented on the fact that we didn't get a junkies shot. Can't forget at Pumpkinman! Don't be overly impressed with the bike - I didn't swim before nor did I have to run afterwards. Though I did spend 30 seconds on my "mishap" per my garmin! |

NH | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Originally posted by BigDaddyD79 RR and pics are up! That looks like a great race. I don't know what how many or what your open 5k time typically is, but that run looks great and running a PR in a tri is outstanding. In fact all the splits look fantastic. You'll be in great shape to kill that Oly in 8 weeks. In terms of losing weight, the general rule for running is 1-2 seconds per mile per pound lost everything else being equal, and on the bike, if there are hills, every ounce (gram for you Canadians) counts. On flats the weight matters, but very little compared to aero and straight power. |

Extreme Veteran 1123 Sidney, Ohio | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Completed my 1st tri of the season yesterday and as usual I am completely unsatisfied with the results! My wife tells me all the time that I have fundamental issues because I can't accept any results! Always feel should've done this and that been faster than the next guy, or what ever! I don't have splits yet, but time came in just over 1:24 and was a whole 30s faster than last year! Not even sure how that is possible but hopefully the splits will tell the tale! I have a rr ready just waiting on exact times! The more important thing is I'm super proud of my oldest, completed his first duathlon Saturday with a final time around 42m. Distance was a 1/2 mile run, 6 mile bike, 1 mile run. He worked hard on the bike to try and keep up with a kid 3 years older and then ran a 7:19 mile to finish! All this with no training, to only be young again! Congrats to everyone who raced this past weekend, there are great results! |

On flats the weight matters, but very little compared to aero and straight power. Its been quite a while since i last ran a 5k, like many years. I wasn't running when I was 19-20 so I dont know what I would of ran then. Im hopefully going to get to do a local 5k this summer and just give it just to see. Ive run a few 23:40 - 24:00 times over 5k during 7-8k tempo runs but they aren't near the same effort. YA the two remaining tris I have this year are olympic courses and they both have some hills. With the longer bike and longer run Id love to get somemore weight off. Not just for the races but because I still have quite a bit around the mid section that I would like to see gone before football season starts up and there are wings and beer everywhere I look. I'm at 204 right now and I'd at least love to go sub 200. I havent seen that since grade 7 maybe, lol |

Expert 1151 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Good job on all the races & training! Going to spinning tonight & doing a treadmill run/walk after. In the interest of improving my mental & physical health, I've made a goal to do spinning & a treadmill run 3xs week. It has been a bit of challenge as the meds I'm on are making me fairly tired & I have to do my workouts in the evenings but I feel so much better after I do them & know they are helping me. My daughter was sick the past couple days so I still have yet to get in the pool...but I' m going to shoot for a pool workout tues, 3rd attempts a charm. |

By the way - there is nothing about it that is easy, but I know that one day they will be too big to ride in the stroller and these moments will just be memories. When that time comes, I hope they are running beside me and eventually in front of me. I also look at it as a way of getting extra hard tri training in on short days when I can't go long and slow.

Jackie it's great to hear that you're doing well and that you've been able to get your workouts in. I pretty much feel the same way all the time now, that is pretty tired and not wanting to do anything but I know this is crunch time for me so I gotta get as much training in as I can. It definitely does feel good afterwards when you go out an get it done. Keep up the good work and I hope your daughter is feeling better. |

Jen all kidding aside I have nothing but respect and admiration for you being able to do that. I'm not sure that I could do that and I know for sure it can't be easy but your right you must get a great workout doing it and it is a good way to involve your kids in what you enjoy doing. |

Expert 2380 Mastic Beach, NY | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED No workout today for me I was going to get a swim in today but I was way too tired to do it so my exercise for the day was taking the dog out for a walk. I hate missing workouts but I have to give myself a pass today. I didn't get much sleep last week and it finally caught up with me. On another note which you guys might find amusing is that the DEC caught an alligator in the one of the river's here where I am doing my Oly in two weeks. Apparently someone had them illegally and 5 of them escaped or where just let loose, they caught the 4 little ones right away but they just caught this one after a week and it wasn't small it was like 4 feet long. The funny thing was they caught it like 25 yards where the DEC's conservation office was. I'm not sure if that is so reassuring or not but I am hoping they have accounted for them all. |

I did manage to knock 2 minutes from the run, but gained a minute on the swim. This with having what I thought was a better swim, this was the 1st race I didn't have to do the dead mans float in the middle of it. I say the distance was off from previous years, yeah thats the difference, they didn't set the course up right! It has nothing to do with me not getting in the pool until May! |

Expert 1439 Tallahassee | Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSED Tony, I saw a bumper sticker that said REST is a 4 letter word, that was taken as a joke, it is much better to rest and give your body time to heal and recover, then kick it up when you are recovered. That is so funny about the alligators, yea that 1 was staying close by because it waned to get caught o get out of the cold water...it was already anticipating winter...lol I love pets but I really don;' think an alligator would make a good pet..lol maybe tha is why they let them go..... GREAT race reports folks, thanks for taking the time to post them. I went for a 3 mile run yesterday at 5:00 PM that was unusual for me since i usually run in the early mornings and it was 92 degrees and sunny. Note: to self.... even for a short run I didn't take enough water, I took a small bottle and i was having to ration it. When I got back I could not quit sweating, I mean just pouring off... got to get acclamated to the heat. Today I decided to swim at home in our pool, gosh I can tell I took 3 weeks off and on top of that, it was dark and i couldn't see the walls. hope everyone has a good training day! Jen keep it up - that is exactly what I did with pushing the kids in the strollers. Now, exactly like you said, my son asks if he can run with me at least once a week. My daughter asks to run also but she can't keep up just yet . |
