Not enjoying them so much atm. Chain ring mark on right calf, with random bruizes and scrapes left elbow, hip, knee etc. The clippless are nice for actually riding, but man with both feet clipped in you drop like a sack oh wheet when that chain comes off.

In general bike is nice. up to 17.25 average speed even with mishapps over 34 miles. Still getting used to the Tri position. I'm sure it will be all good after it gets retuned.

I am still shooting for 200 miles on the bike this month, though I may have to do a few days on the mountain bike. Not sure whether I have the motivation to drive a couple hundred miles to get it fixed today or not.

I may be shooting for a first sprint tri in December. There are still alot of details to work out and it is 700 miles away. It would be my 3rd day swimming this year.. at the triathlon. Not looking for any times, just want to finish one, maybe I'll bring a lifejacket (joke). The tri is odd it is Run and then Bike and then Swim.

I did 4 miles at a 10:30 pace the other day, maybe in 2-4 months I'll be able to give ya a run for your money and drop it to 10 min mile pace for 3-6 miles.

Also down to 150 pounds ish, (but wife cooking pancakes so make that 152). Another 5-10 pounds and I can increase those calories a bit.

All in all things going well.

wow steve! you're doing awesome! i can't believe how much weight you've lost in just the last two months!! the bike thing, yeah. that's what terrifies me about that whole clipless pedals thing. the falling. i've never had a wreck, i've never fallen, i've never had a flat, or busted the chain, but still........just knowing what could happen. totally freaks me out. i have to get a new bike soon, i know i'll probably go that way, but still a little tweaked about it. hope your recovery goes quickly, i can't imagine CHAIN marks on the leg. that's gotta smart

Two more great life stories from Kelley & Jason. We all have obstacles to overcome, whether it be ourselves, family or friends. The great thing is that you all keep after your dream and keep taking those steps that will bring you closer to achieving your goal. Way to go, Poison Apples.

Steve, sorry to hear about your fall on the bike. Just a word to the wise, when you do take the bike into the shop, let them know you fell so that they can be looking for anything that might have been weakened in the fall. I took a fall earlier this year. The pedal was stripped and came out just as I was putting pressure on it, so down I went. When my nubby took the bike to the shop, he did not tell them I had fallen with the bike, so they basically just fixed the pedal and took a quick look elsewhere. The next time I went out on the bike, I hadn't even gotten a mile before the rear brakes lever seemed weird. Sure enough, it was broken. So I walked the bike back to the car while eveyone one else got in a quick 20 mile ride. I was bummed. This time when the bike went in, my husband made sure he told them I had had an accident of the bike. They then checked it over completely, fixed the brake and found a couple of other small things that would have gotten worse over time. I got the bike back right before my first tri and was unable to ride it before the event. Most of my training ended up being on the bike we keep on the trainer in the basement.

Great avitar by the way.

Yahoo! Post #300. Did 2 miles today.

So, I reached my goal for the week of adding 10% onto last weeks total. I'm actually really proud that I did it today. I wasn't sure if I would be able to. Yesterday we went with friends and did a hike to the Hike Inn. It is a 5 mile hike, and we went with a group of about 28 people. It was really a lot of fun, but who wants to get up at 5:30 am on a Saturday. We do, we do!

Then today we hiked back out, another 5 miles. Whee! It was beautiful weather both days. Clear skies, we could see Atlanta off in the distance. Where we were hiking is the start of the Appalachian Trail. If we had gone another 2164 miles we would have made it to the end. But that would be a little tough to do in a day.

CONGRATULATIONS ON ACHIEVING THE 10% INCREASE CHALLENGE! That's GREAT!

I actually did not achieve the 10% increase. I was getting close to it, when my knee started whining. So I decided to back it off a bit. But --- I will hit my October goal this week though. So that's a positive, at least. Go apples!

Where is the start of the Appalachian Trail? I'm assuming it's in GA somewhere.

You did some GREAT hiking this weekend! Way to go!

okay guys, here it is...you can all laugh. Why in the world did I think the ride was going to be the easiest part? OMG! the hills around here are kicking my a**! I'm scared to death that I may not be able to finish the ride part of my first race which is in 2 weeks!!! somebody please tell me it gets better and that it is physically possible to double the distance I'm able to ride in 2 weeks....
I walked most of my "run" today. When I got home from the ride, I ran upstairs to pee, ran back down the stairs and sort of missed the last step. My shin now hurts in a way that it hasn't before. This is bad news.

Yes riding gets easier!!! I promise.... and remember hills make it harder but worst case scenario you get off your bike and walk it up to the top if yuo need to then enjoy flying down

Sorry about your shin... only thing I can say is ice ice ice!!! 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off and if its not improved in 24-48 hours please see someone

Take Care!!!

Grats on the + 10 %!

Sounds like a nice hike.

Doh sorry about the shin.. hopefully its better in a day or 2. Make sure to not overtrain, you have like 1 week left to work on those hills then its just screw it and heal up for the race. When I overdo it my endurance is like crap and I get discouraged. When I take a day or 2 off its all good again.

I sucked it up and drove to get the bike fixed. Looks like the original bike shop tossed a used chain on it to save money .. .so I had to replace the chain, adjust the cable tension and the part of the bike where the rear derailer sits got bent somehow... probly in shipping they say. But mostly the chain and the tension on the shift cable I guess were the problem. I didn't want to give myself any reason to break my training and not bike this week. It is sooooo easy to give in to a cold, travel or something and then lose the routine of exercising, for me anyway.

I didnt really hurt anything too badly, I was going up a steep hill so kinda just went splat at like 3 mph when I downshifted and the chain went skiiipp. The elbow is already starting to feel less painful to direct pressure. Mental note.. loosen the tension on clips first thing tomorrow (I dont think it will help but it will make me feel better.

Oh and don't eat those really dry granola bars while riding a bike... they flake and get caught in your throat if you are breathing too fast.. kinda uncomfortable.

And we better not lose the challenge or someone is gona have to talk me through how to get a picture from a camara onto an avatar. Tech support fears me... um K so how do I get to the control panel again.. do I need a phillips or a flathead scredriver .. or is it an allen wrench....

KK well off to forrage for food.

Dee, I love the new twinkie. Go Cowboy! And yes, the Appalachian Trail starts in Georgia. I think there are 87 miles of it in GA before you hit either Tenn or NC. I've got to check the map. It would be fun to do, but I have a feeling I have a better chance of doing an IM than being a Thru-hiker on the trail. I HATE TO CAMP! Love the hiking though.

Steve, glad the bike did not end of to be anything major. Now you're ready to roll. I agree that once you break a routine of training, if you don't get back to it, it is so easy to keep blowing off.

Jessica, keep icing. As Cat said, 20 on 20 off for as long as you can take it. Hope it is nothing major. Yes, hills do get better. Doesn't mean you are going to like them any better, but you will be able to ride up them. Also as Cat said, you can always get off and walk the bike to the top. You won't be the only one to have ever done this. It will get better with time and practice.

Team question - do we need to talk with Cat about Husker-tri-girl, or just suck it up and get our legs ready? I know several of us have gone out to her site and posted inspirations and have gotten no responses.

So you're in GA? I'm in NC. We're practically neighbors. (Except that I sure would NOT want to bike to GA from here.)

Glad you like the new twinkietar. I was so tired of the old one. (I'll be tired of this one soon, too. But the month is almost over.) And speaking of the need to change avatars.....

Re Husker-tri-girl - I've tried leaving inspires and I've sent PMs. I know that she's read the PMs, because they're gone from my outbox. But she hasn't replied.... It's a bummer that she hasn't stopped by here to tell us what's been going on with her. And if she has an injury or something, she could request a goal readjustment, etc. Everyone else on the team has really been working REALLY hard, but tri-girl's low numbers are dropping us way down in the ranks.... The spreadsheet gets updated on Mondays, so if she doesn't put in an appearance by tomorrow, then yes, I think we should ask Cat about her.

(I still think we should organize a road trip to her house, and knock on her door. When she answers, we can hand her a pair of running shoes, and make her jog around the block for, oh 25 miles or so. )

Hey look - our post counts are just about tied!

Dee

I just PMd Cat, as she requested.

Maybe she'll see your post too though. Because I think you summed up how we feel.

Husker-tri-girl HAS been logging onto BT. I can tell from her stats. And she read the PM that I sent. She's even logged one mile this past week. But she doesn't come here, and she doesn't communicate with any of us. So we don't know what's going on. And well, if she doesn't share anything with us, is she really part of the team?

Everyone is working hard to reach their goals. If she had been stopping by to talk to us to explain if there's a problem, or if she'd been answering our PMs, I think that I would feel like she was a part of the team. But we haven't heard a word from her since week 2. (And that was only a quick comment that she hadn't been running.) And our numbers are good - except for hers. So our team average is being affected by just one person.

That's my take on it, anyway. And that's pretty much what I told Cat.

Dee

Well, I hope that she's ok. I wish she would check in here, or at least send a PM to someone on the team. I don't like the idea of dropping her from the team - if she's having difficulties or has an injury, etc. But the only way for us to know that she's having problems is for her to communicate with us.

Hey Husker_Tri_Girl, if you see this --> I hope that you're ok. But could you please let us know what's up?

Dee

sometimes......

life just gets in the way.

I was 6.5 miles away from being at 100% today, the end of week 3. I wanted to do it so dang bad, and I wanted to do it more to beat Lyssa there. I was gonna walk home from work which would have been 4 miles, and a 2.5 miler later in the day.

And then work happened. It's 3 am and I have officially worked 20 of the last 28 hours. And I'm here for 4 more hours. Yep, I'm working 24 hours out of 32. The hotel is small, and the Front Office Manager really doesn't give a crap about the hotel, and refuses to help out anytime someone is sick, it's really kind of . So, instead of walking home, I slept in a room here at the hotel from 7:30am-1:30 pm, and came right back to the desk. Yes, I look like DEATH. So, I logged 0 miles for yesterday, and I'll have to wait until this week to round out my 50 miles.

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the worst 24 hours I've worked in the hotel industry in 6 years. Some drunk pulled the fire alarm at 2:30am last night which of course made EVERYONE mad. I called off the fire trucks, they showed up anyway. Tonight around 10pm I see a young kid running through the parking lot, only to be chased by 2 cops with their guns drawn. Yeah, can I just go back to bed and forget this weekend ever happened?

I'll survive. I'll probably sleep most of Monday, and I'm supposed to work Tuesday afternoon so I don't know if/when I'll be able to log some miles, but have no fear, the 50 is near.

Thats really not fair to those of us who have been busting all month. I figured it was only the losing team (last place) who got stuck with the avitar. I know it's probably too late, but I think it should change to just the last place team, or the teams in the bottom half....

but thats just my (pissed off after being at work for 15 hours) opinion.

That's why I asked the question about Husker_tri_girl. The rest of us are on track for 100%. Would that not mean we would tie for first place since you can't go past 100% It has really been disheartening to see everyone else work so hard towards their goals, to have one person, who is basiclly a no show, blow our chance entirely. Now if she had been posting and talking to us all along, then I would have more understanding. But right now, I'm ...

Stacie: When you put the team spreadsheet through on Monday you can remove her from the roster... providing if she returns to this thread and states she is still in the challenge she can get back on... Deal?

I dont want her to feel like we have let her go if she is just having a hard time getting all her hours logged.

Keep reading, guys. Cat told us what to do regarding Husker_Tri_Girl. (See above.)

We can drop her from the roster.

If she shows up on the thread, and states that she is still in the challenge, we put her back on the roster.

So let's assume that Husker_tri_girl isn't coming back. (She didn't answer any of our inspires or PMs, even though she has logged on recently.) If she does, well, we'll deal with it then.

If we ALL obtain 100% of our goals, then we can't "lose." We can tie for first place, but that's fine. Because we'll still be one of the winning teams.

So, OUR goal is to reach 100%. Every one of us. And if we do, then we can laugh at all those legs that show up on OTHER peoples' avatars next month.
