Veteran 399 | Subject: RE: JFord's Mentor Group-Closed Hey guys, spring is here. Warm weather and thunderstorms... how is everyones training going? I had a very good weekend of training - now I feel like I have been hit by a truck. 4.5 mile run on Sat am, 47 mile (HILLY and WINDY) ride Sat afternoon. 7+ mile run Sunday am, followed by 3 hours of power raking the thatch out of my lawn. Muscles throughout the body are sore. Looking forward to a recovery/ rest day and watching Butler tonight. |

Pro 4742 Sarasota FL | Subject: RE: JFord's Mentor Group-Closed All right so, it's April. Anyone want to play the goal game again? That was actually pretty darn motivational for me the month that we did it. My "A" race is coming up May 15th so I can afford to be slacking at all this month (even though I already did this weekend). Who's with me? Goals for me: Swim: 15,500 yds Bike: 190 miles Run: 46 miles |

Member 75 Blacklick, OH | Subject: RE: JFord's Mentor Group-Closed Hey guys! Well, I guess it's official...I am a triathlete! I finished the race, but it is quite a story. I was in the last heat of the day, and the swim went well. Finished in just under 16 minutes...BUT....the indoor facility was very warm (like 85 degrees) and the water was like a bath. Gatlinburg was unseasonably cold as well (38 degrees when I woke up and just under 50 when I got on the bike). T1 went very well, but here is where I made my one and only mistake. Due to the warmth of the indoor facility and water temp (I lost some fluids here because of the sweaty conditions), I decided to do the bike portion in my tri shorts and not my under armour tights. BIG mistake....as soon as I hit the bike, about a half mile into the downhill stretch, I knew I had screwed up. It was freezing, I wasn't hydrated properly and my legs tightened up immediately. The first mile of the race was straight downhill and I was going about 35mi per hour. I got to the bottom and started up the same hill and my left leg cramped. Got to the top of the hill in quite a bit of pain, then tried to work it out going back down the hill for another 1.5mi. Seemed to work OK, then had a beautiful ride of about 7 or so mi. on pretty flat ground. My leg felt better but as soon as we hit that damn hill again, my left leg basically quit on me. I finished the last couple miles using one leg. One of the spotters tried to get me to stop and take a ride back to the transition area, but I told him that I came all the way from Ohio to do this race and I would crawl across the line if that's wht it would take. Got to T2 and realized that the bike, thanks to being a one legged rider, took me about 30 min longer than it should have....so breaking 2hrs was out of the question.....I just wanted to finish. I promptly unclipped out of the right pedal then tried to pull out of the left one but my leg would not respond, so I eloquently fell to the ground with my left foot still clipped in. It was a thing of beauty and my wife was kind enough to capture it on tape. I thought long and hard about calling it a day, but I would not have been able to live with myself if I did that. I laced 'em up and limped out for the 5k. I was somehow able to finish the 5k in 36 minutes...pretty much dragging my left leg the whole time. I don't know my official time, but it was somewhere in the 2hr to 2hr 5min range. Heck, I even won the spirit award for my finishing the race on one leg. I guess word spread quickly that there was a guy out there struggling to compete (yours truly) and they must have felt sorry for me. I was pretty sore on Sunday and still am today (the 6hr car ride home didn't help my legs), but I proved to myself that I could hang in this event. The whole race, I kept thinking of all you guys and the words of encouragement you had for me coupled with the thought of seeing my two little boys at the finish line, and that is what pushed me to finish. The next one is 5/22 and I will be ready to improve on my time. I expect the weather will be much nicer too! Cory

I carefully transposed a couple training plans from the "essential week by week training guide". It's an HIM and OLY plan. With workout descriptions and everything. If anyone wants a couple more plans to look at/use. Let me know. I can export the to an excel file and you can easily import them right into your plan library and import them into you logs. |

Congrats on pushing thru! Hows the leg feeling today? Hopefully no lasting injury and just a bad cramp. |

Once I get thru this HIM in May I need to pick some fall races and might do another HIM in November. I'm not loving my current plan, so I would be curious to see what else is out there. Good luck with your races this month Jim. It's going to be very cool to see how you perform given the weight you've lost and the fitness gains you've made. |

I would like to see a new HIM plan for my Sept race. For sure. I can export it as an excel file. You can look at it there, OR, if a performance member, import it directly into your logs. They are basically RPE based, (but I converted that to HR for my use). Just PM me your email address and I can send it. Give me a couple days since I am going out of town. On second thought, I can attach a file to a post... SO, I have attached the OLY plan. to this post. I will do the same for the HIM plan when I later this week. Let me know if there are any questions or clarifications to what the workouts are asking for. For example, "moderate aerobic intensity" = Z2, etc... Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: JFord's Mentor Group-Closed Attached is the one for the HIM. Let me know if anyone has any trouble importing/seeing/understanding. I want to do this for several other plans as well... So stay tuned. For SURE I plan to use one from the book for my fall IM. I tried the BT plans, and they were good, but looking for a change. So I will have a moderately aggressive IM plan in a month or so you can have.

I am about 5 days from beginning the BT 20 week plan leading up to IMLouisville. I have been using a "be iron fit" plan for the last 10 weeks in it's base phase. Really not sure if I should stay with that or use the BT 20 week plan. Would you take a look at this one and compare it to the BT one you have used and give a recommendation. Thanks - I have been going back and forth on this for a few weeks. |

Got a couple of titanium screws in the old jaw bone. Should make the airport travel interesting. I'm hoping to get back at it mid next week so I am sure to be ready for my 5/22 race. In case anyone is wondering....the surgery had nothing to do with my first race ....just how it fell on the schedule.
