I think i'm swallowing water? But after a long continuous swim i'm too bloated to even run...i literally have to relieve this bloated feeling through slow movements and stretches (fart) for about 30 minutes until my stomach relaxes and i can continue my workout or eat. Any helpful points?gillyfev - 2008-05-26 4:42 AM Week 3 results are in and the standings are:
Full details, including a reminder of the penalty avatar, are here: OK....now we are in last.....what happen?!?! come on team...what is up??? We do have the largest team......but I would think - that should make us EVEN stronger! COME ON GUYS...we can still do this...but we need EACH and EVERY ONE OF YOU to do your part! There is no "I" in team....LETS GO!!!! wow..I have never heard of this! are you in a masters swim team...maybe someone can watch you while you are swimming... one thing that you may want to try SLOWLY expelling water everytime you put your face in the water and then when you breathe..make sure your mouth is way above the water line...you have got me on this one....but then again I am not a great swimmer.....so all you swimmers out there help!?!?!?
Oh YEAH I get the beltches during a swim. I think I am trying to go to fast and gulp air quickly. Thats why I could out beltch anyone...when I was...ah ...younger. |

Member 37 | Subject: RE: US West Team - May "President's Cup" challenge Triathlynne - 2008-05-28 1:48 PM Bloating while swimming? Wow. I dunno. I usually blow out under water then inhale on the way up but I make sure my head is turned way up. Running makes me feel bloated, extremely. Last night on the home I could not stop farting. It's terrible. I know it sounds disgusting but I want to know what causes it. I didn't over eat or anything like that. Pain in the arse, or stomach. Hope you get it sorted.
I want to thank whoever has been updating my totals. Really, you're the best. I've got two ideas on bloating: 1. Diet - improper foods or not enough foods may cause a buildup of gas during strenuous workouts... 2. During swim, since i breathe on a cadence (with stroke) and not when i need to like biking and running i am performing an incomplete exhale. Thereby leaving breath in my lungs...if i swallow a little bit of water (which is normal during swimming) then when i turn vertical the air (from the incomplete exhale) is trying to move on top of the water in my belly and it is unable to due to stomach size - then it expands (it was pressurized in equilibrium under water) and exapands my belly....so - i need to focus on making sure i do complete exhales (good bursts as i turn head) and/or maybe move to a three stroke breath to make sure i get it all out... what do you guys think....sorry it is soo long...trying to be clear. |

I agree, to some extent, with option #2. You should be blowing out all of your air on each breath, clearing your nose each time, just as as your face breaks the water. You may also be trying to draw in as much air as possible on each breath, rather than letting the breath come naturally. As for #1, I never eat anything before a swim. It always comes back up. Elite 3494 Renton, Washington | Subject: RE: US West Team - May "President's Cup" challenge The new pool I swim at is salinated! What a difference it is compared to the one at my gym. My eyes don't burn anymore and I don't have that chlorine stench either. I love it. I know I am being totally random here but I had to share. lol
Another bike/swim brick for me tonight. I should make my swim but I'm a little doubtful about my run. Ma legs are totally aching. I'll fit in what I can though. |

Elite 3494 Renton, Washington | Subject: RE: US West Team - May "President's Cup" challenge Oh. Can I just add. That tonight my swim coach was teaching us breathing. She states that breath OUT UNDER THE WATER before turning your head to breathe in. You just don't have the time for both. We tried it and it really worked! I was struggling as much. You might want to try that also. I noticed a lot of professional swimmers breathe out under water too, then turn and come up for air. And as your hand comes back down the water your head goes before, hand and arm follow. When you see the technique you can see how good it works. Edited by Triathlynne 2008-05-29 12:41 AM |

My bloating is caused by my endometrosis that makes me suffer once a month for 2 days. I exercise to get my blood flowing and relieve my cramp but I can't get rid of the bloating. It goes away eventually. |

Breath out under water. Also sometimes when I do a lot sprints I tend to swallow air that causes gas to. |
