My trainer let me know that i did a great job and that i have a little taste of what it would be like. |

How often are time trials done during training? i have my first triathlon in May 09 which is a sprint and i want to make sure that i get this right, secondly are there any TT plans i should follow and where can i find that plan? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I apologize for not being more involved on here lately. After my surgery, I decided to refinance my house this week so have spent any free time I have dealing with that. As soon as that is finished we are going to be buying a new car, so it doesn't end yet. Throw in a bunch of family and work events/parties and this is one crazy month. I am resigning from the peach challenge this month, but hope to start back up in Jan when my schedule eases up. I am going to attempt to still workout when I get the chance but don't know when that will be until the last minutes. Congrats to everyone who is keeping up with the peaches and hope those that were sick are feeling better. I've barely been on this website over the past 2 weeks. Hope everyone has a great holiday season and a merry xmas!! |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Monday is always a great day to start the week when your training is in full gear. Cycling: 1 hr @17mph after the ride i was going to run 5k on the treadmill but low and behold none available so plan B came in to affect and that was to run a trail that i have mapped out that covers a 5k, but man it was cold out and i mean cold, but i had no choice i wanted to get my run in, and i knew that i was not dressed properly but as they say no guts no glory. So i headed out and ran my 5k and came in at 26:45 that was so surprising to me because i actually did better with my time then my last three previous races. I feel great my training is coming along great and i've dropped 17 pounds since i started.Woooo-Hooo !! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm starting to think *I* might run faster in the cold! PB at Jingle Bell 5k yesterday in about 32F, but sunny day. 29:14 may not sound too fast, but it's definitely fast for me! Felt great afterward, like I could have put more into it if it weren't for this cough. Not keeping up with the peaches as much as I'd like (currently only at 10 of 14) but still managing to push myself a lot harder than last month, which I suppose is really the point of it all. Starting a customized training from Runners World for the next 10wks toward my next big race: Hyannis 10k at the end of February. If anyone's interested in the RW customizable plans it's here: http://tinyurl.com/58p5os It's pretty cool since it will give you a schedule based on your most recent race times and how hard you want to train. It's starting me off pretty easy (2mile easy run today! I'll have to make today a brick.), but will get challenging soon. Overall it looks like a good plan I can stick to and still give me a lot of opportunity to get swimming, biking and strength work in with 3 XT days a week. What are everyone else's plans? Anyone thinking about changes to make or new goals to set for the New Year? |

My completely uneducated theory is that the cold reduces the natural swelling that occurs impeding blood flow and rom, leading to increased muscle fatigue. Sometimes hot weather running makes me feel lithe and flexible, but more often I feel my feet pushing back against my sneakers and a little extra twinge in the worse of my two knees. That's my guess, anyhow. I know cold weather exercise can often take more of a toll on the body, but I love it after I can get through the first few adjusting days. And I absolutely love running when there's light snow fall. The only part I dread is the pre-race shivers waiting for an event to begin. |

Supersonicus Idioticus ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() R4B: You do run faster in colder weather. Your body doesn't have to spend energy to cool itself off. In fact, I looked at triathlete's profiles, and it listed two bike power numbers: one normal wattage (~400), and one in the heat of Hawaii (~360). Joseph (at least I think it was Joseph's question): One time trial every three weeks seems good. Maybe one every two weeks since there are so many sports. But the key here is to not let the time trial get in the way of your training (i.e. no extra rest days after). So if 5k is at the limit of your racing ability, and you would be exhausted after racing this, do a 2 or 3k time trial. You can also do fewer time trials if you have a few high-intensity training sessions. You wouldn't believe how much more you can push yourself during a race (i.e. how much more painful you can make it) when your body has been exhausted during training. |

Anyone thinking about changes to make or new goals to set for the New Year? First, big congrats on your personal best! That's so exciting. Second, it's definitely easier for me to run in the cold. I agree with you about loathing the pre-race or first of the run shivers. Once I can get past that, it's enjoyable. I could go out running right this second. It's 20 degrees out. But it's supposed to snow some time in the next few hours, and I'm going to wait for it. I can focus on the pretty snowfall instead of my running. I'll definitely check out that website. I need a gameplan. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This peach month has been great for getting myself back on track, and seeing everyones monster workout schedules has been a good motivation for me. This has been going so well I am going to start a 16 week OLY training plan in January. 15 peaches down, 16 more to go ! Mark Edited by chili0552 2008-12-16 8:23 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Day 16 Peach complete.
I have to say that this peach challenge is harder than I thought it would be. I am using the BT.com Olympic 20 week training program as well. My 1st race is my A race, it is an Olympic Tri. Last year I was really disappointed in my performance, na d that has fueled me for a long time. I started seeing faster times towards the end of the season, but it is all coming back to this race in May. I still have that race number taped to the wall in my office, with all my splits written on it. If all goes as I plan, I will finish the 20 week program about 3 weeks prior to this race. My time last year was 3 hours and 44 minutes. I am looking to go under 3 hours this year and I think I can do it becasue I will be much more prepared and in better swimming, biking and running shape.
Sorry needed to vent. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think that running in the brutal cold on monday after spin class and not properly dressed has taken a toll on my right lower leg just above the ankle on the right hand side of my leg. I've been feeling some pain so as of yesterday i've been applying hot ice wrapped and a cold pack after words. I hoping this goes away so i can run a 5k this saturday. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had another 5k race in Fort Hood TX today. Did very well despite today that i felt sluggish. Ran a PB 26:05. It was a little tricky today for the fact that the roads were wet, everyone slowed up a bit when going down hill. Overall the race was great lots of participants. Feeling very sore have my lower right leg wrapped up now. I need to lighten up on the running and let my leg fully recover. I'll just be putting in more training time on my swimming and cycling. Have to also get ready to do a half marathon in the beginning of the year so some rest from the pounding of the asphalt will suit me just fine. Edited by joseph-63 2008-12-20 6:00 PM |
