So Scott is off camping in the cold, Anne is racing in warm Tampa.  Anyone else doing something fun this weekend?

I did a run/bike brick today.  Ooo, so much fun!  At least it went better than last weekend's attempt.  That'll be the most interesting thing for me for a while.

If you count picking up race packet/hanging out in Honolulu today and a 2 year olds birthday party tomorrow as fun then yes....loads!

How's the fever?  I Hope you aren't getting sick!!

No fever for me this morning, just a little stuffiness. My son is still like a little furnace though. My husband worked last night and is sleeping today. So I get sick-kid duty. I guess I'll just do housework instead of a regular workout today.  It's gotta get done sometime.

Don't know 'bout you?  But IMO there's nothing wrong with snow.  As long as it's up on the mountain where you can ski on it.  In the driveway it's a different story.

So looking over my calendar over the next four weeks, I have noticed that I have three races and a challenge that I am participating in. A short indoor Tri (which I am really going to use as a training exercise) and two runs (10k and 8k).  The challenge is a team biking challenge.   Total number of miles covered by the team from March 1 to March 31.  Does anyone think that the biking challenge will be detrimental to the running training? I am doing the run races in the hopes that it will help to motivate me to get faster in the run segment and the bike challenge to make me put my a$$ in the saddle, so it's all gotta be good, right?

Well I messed up a little today.  I thought I was supposed to do a 1:15 ride and weights.  I decided to stay home, skip the weights and just do the long ride on the trainer.   I gotta toughen up the tail bones before the 28th anyway.  As I'm entering the info in the log afterwards and looking at what the plan says for the rest of the week, I realize that I was only supposed to do a :30 ride.  Argh!!

Seems like you would be fine as long as there is some recovery time factored in there.

"When you begin to feel overwhelmed by triathlon life, remind yourself of the basics of the sport. Training should be challenging and enjoyable. The people should be interesting and fun. Races should be difficult and rewarding. Jettison the excess baggage of triathlon and remember that triathlon is made up of three events that you loved to do as a child, and you are now fortunate enough to "play" again. Focusing on the simplicity of the sport enables you to regain your motivation and confidence, relax, and reconnect with what attracted you to triathlon in the first place."

This is one of the best quotes I have read in regards to juggling training with "real life". It SHOULD be fun, we should enjoy it.  But it's all too easy to get caught up in the grind of "I've got to get my workout in", which takes the enjoyment out of it to a degree.

I just know that after 6 months of doing this I sure feel a lot better about life in general after I got my workout in for the day. That's the enjoyment I get.

I totally agree!  My workouts are the only time I get during the day to myself and it's (especially running) always been my "happy place."

I wish I had outside stuff to do today...but alas I have a swim and a bike on tap...I know I could take the bike outside, but the only place I have to ride is the Lakefront path and I do not think it would be wise for my first ride to be on such a busy place when I am not convinced I will be able to unclip as I need to.

I'd love to go outside today.  But the sick kid and my upset stomach have kept us inside and down.  Here's everyone's favorite broken record, "I'm ready for spring!"

That's great that you all (except you lara ~ hope you all are feeling better soon!!) got outside!  I have a swim and bike on the agenda for today so assuming hubby gets home a bit early, I will be doing long ones of both.

Got in a short run (working on pacing for the race this weekend) and a short swim.  (got kicked out of the pool for the "senior swim lessons".  [begin rant] 6 grannies standing in the shallow end talking for an hour.  Sheesh. They wouldn't let me continue to swim in one of the other eight lanes in the pool cause I might splash them. They were in the freakin water! [end rant]

While I got a swim and a bike ride in, they weren't nearly as long as I'd hoped they'd be ~ some is better than none, right?!

Scott, I had to laugh while picturing the old ladies standing there BSing while you're looking all the other open lanes!
