I LOVE swim outlet!  I got $3 swimsuits there once.  They don't last long but at that price you can't pass it! I rotate and when they get really ratty I wear two. hehe.  Tight as a badgers arse I am.

Anyone got any big exercise plans this weekend?    I am totally out of my league when I say this but tomorrow I have a 9 mile trail run, then Saturday I am going to attempt a 50 mile bike ride.  It's mostly all flat with some rolling hills. It's the HIM course I'll be doing in September.  Fun times. I'll puke no doubt.  I suppose if it comes to the worse I can always just do 1 loop, right?

Wow, $3 swimsuit! That's a good price! Surprised

I must say I love your expression "Tight as a badgers arse". Laughing

I went to the pool this morning, 7:30 and swam 800 m. 100 m breaststrokes, 100 m freestyle with nose clip and 600 m freestyle without nose clip.

I just bought a Timex with 30 lap count and used it this morning. So much fun!

I love it. Swimming will be a lot more fun and interesting with it. I don't have to count laps in my head, can just push a button every 4 laps and that's easy to remember.

About the weekend, I'm running a 5K race on Saturday morning. First race of the year. Hope it's going to be nice and not to cold. Other then that I'm biking on Sunday, 45 min of indoor biking.

Oh, and I just remembered, I'm going to test swim with the master swim team tomorrow. Maybe I'll join after that. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow.

Good luck with your big ride!  That's impressive.

Our Y is doing a 4 hour "Spinathon" this weekend.  I was planning on riding 2 hours of it, but I might end up doing the whole thing, or close to it...

Good luck on your 5K Mia!!  Run like the wind bullseye! And, have fun on that spinathon. Lynne, have fun running those trails. Love trails. You'll get a good idea of your HIM from your weekend plans.

Re: Fuel Belt. I'll chime in here. I have a two holster (is that what it's called?) fuel belt I've used for a couple of years now. I bought the larger bottles than it came with so I have a little more fluids with me. My arms have never hit it. I do have to velcro it pretty tightly around my waist and I've gotten chafing on longer runs, say 14+, but nothing a little body glide didn't take care of. I like my fuel belt, Art. But we're all different and whatever works, I say.

Have a great weekend. This is my last weekend before Oceanside 70.3. I just finished some hill repeats on the bike. I've got a tempo run on Sat. a 2 hour temp ride and :30 brick run on Sunday and then tapering quite a bit. Going from 15 1/2 hours max last week and down to 8 this week, I think. Anyway....have fun everyone and stay safe.

tryin2tri--here's a bit more on fitting an indoor cycling bike. after seat height adjustment like i said, then position the seat fore/aft so that the tip of your forward kneecap in the forwardmost part of the pedal stroke is centered over the pedal spindle (the middle of the pedal). KOPS--knee over pedal spindle. Raise handlebars to comfort level. at this point, higher is better than too low. As for handlebar fore-aft, move them so that you're putting very little pressure on your wrists and they are fairly straight, not with the hands cocked upward.

Lynne--badger's arse. HA HA HA HA ... not that I have ever closely inspected a badger's arse. However, I'll take your word for it.

YES EVERYONE--as Lynne pointed out, swimoutlet and all the sites I mentioned often have PHENOM deals. Check them often. I got three pairs of brand-name quality tri shorts at $10 apiece, I forgot which site, but just goes to show ya.

Have a fantastic training weekend. You are a truly stellar athlete. I know things are up and down for you, but cling always to the immense accomplishments you've made and are making.

Mia--great that you are 'warming up' to swimming, so to speak! have fun at master's. also, DO NOT press the lap button on your Timex underwater. Lift wrist up, shake it off, press. Good luck on the 5K, have a blast!
y
Dineen--you are making such amazing progress. Keep it up! Have a blast at the Spinathon, set your bike up well, don't be afraid to get off and change it if need be. start out agonizingly easy, and trail off from there. shoot for four hours if you like! You can always get off at any time if you want to. But start out easy, easy, easy.

Lynn--soooo excited as you taper into Oceanside. such a beautiful race. you will have a wonderful time. you've also prepped more and more intensely for this race than any other, so remember how WELL you are going into this. don't be alarmed if you get weird pains during taper week. you're not dying or injured. they will pass. it's your body letting you know you are ready.

Thanks. I just lifted my arm out of the water each time, but didn't shake it. I'll try to remember for next time. But it say's it's WR to 100 m on it, but that's maybe if you dont press any buttons.

Trust me, my training partners, and about five threads on BT--treat the Timex gingerly around water.

That said, I think Timex is hands-down the best sports watch for the money. I've put them through hell and back, taken them all over the world, had them chewed by dogs, etc. and they keep on ticking. Unless, of course, you press the buttons underwater. Heh.

Hmm, I need to get me a Timex.

Then I won't have to carry my old MP3 player to have a stopwatch on my run anymore Cool

**raising hand**

I would be one of those who learned the hard way.  No problem with wearing it in the water but push the lap button and it'll be toast in a couple hours at best.

OK, I'll be really careful next time. Don't want it to break down.

I bought mine at Target, found it to be the cheapest. I payed only $34.99 +tax. I got a black one with just a red button, the big one, I guess it's for men, but I didn't like the smaller one for women.

In a few minutes I'm going to go downstairs, take my bike out of the trainer, release it from the basement prison it has been held in since last fall and go outside for a ride.  Life is good!

I bought myself a new timex just last year. The strap on my old completely broke off, I bought that at Target too.  This one however I bought on a website called Woot.com *GO AND CHECK IT OUT!*  It was $40 and came with an IPOD controller.  Wasn't too fussed about the controller I just wanted the watch and it was a good price and a funky colour.   Turns out they are worth over $100 and the controller works brilliantly! I can use my watch to pause it at traffic lights and when I'm crossing the street etc or if someone stops to ask me something *Like, are you a triathlete* Bwahahahahahha.  THe only issue I have is that I have to constantly hit "SPLIT" on this one when I time my swim sets where as before I could do it by starting another time session. Got used to it however so no worries.

I am also a no no on the hitting the button under water, did that with my 1st timex I bought.  Tis the pants. Don't do it.  Shake that beyatch 1st.

This is my watch, same colour n all. I love it.

Sweeeeeeeet! Your bike will be so happy.

I'm in the opposite fix--too hot to bike unless at 6 a.m. (and after 8 a.m. traffic, and hot). Biking at night is okay and I've been doing it (reflective gear and lights) and even though it's a bit safer here b/c people are in fact EXPECTING odd slow moving things on the side of the road, it's still not exactly safe to bike at night and the road conditions are much worse.

Oh, and whenever I want to bike, it is of course lightning. I'll go out in rain, but not lightning. Except that one time. Heh.

Hi Manatees!

it's great to see such wonderful things going on in here!

Yanti - thanks for holding down the fort while i've been 'regrouping'  - you are the best!  mwah.

Lynne - love the funky color of the watch - the ipod controller sounds pretty darn cool   you'll do great on your trail run, we'll look forward to hearing about it

Art - hope you had fun on the trainer   - sounds like you've made a solid decision on the fuel belt, i have to say i like having one - especially on long runs - i'm glad you're feeling better

Mia - have a great time with your 5k!

Lynn - i'm so excited for your upcoming 70.3!  you are so well trained and ready for it

Rebecca - it's looking like it's going to be a great weekend here!  better to rest and take care of an injury rather than aggravate it - you made the right call to listen to your body

Dineen - enjoy your spinathon!  that sounds like quite a challenge

Jessie - what a great goal to do IM in 2011 - you've come to the right place for both advise and encouragement!

Cool, Mia, thanks!!!!  I updated it in my blog.

Art, yay for riding outdoors!  I won't be doing that tomorrow.  :-)  I must admit, I am a little nervous about just riding outdoors -- this long indoor spin will be what I need to get that confidence, right?  Thank goodness, they are moving the bikes out onto the basketball court (instead of the dark spin room) and having entertainers and prizes and such.  Should be a good atmosphere.

And Yanti, I will take your advice -- light resistance and take it very easy.  Slow and steady wins the race.

Off to run some errands, and then hopefully to run -- my swim this morning got thwarted by the pool not being open due to staffing issues.  grrr....

Mia - Good luck in the 5k!

Lynne - Have fun on the ride!

Dineen - A 4 hour spinathon?  You're tougher than I am!  Have fun!

Yanti - I'm sure this summer I'll be hoping for cool weather again but right now "too hot" doesn't sound bad.

Beth - Good to "see" you!

Lynn - Enjoy your taper.

I rode my bike for an hour outside yesterday.  The weather was almost perfect.  I took it easy, just trying to get used to the traffic and being on the roads again.  Had to remember that I needed to "unclip" when I got to a stop sign or light.  I got passed by a horse & open buggy going up a hill and then followed them for a couple minutes on the other side.  There were a couple kids in the back laughing (probably at me) as I pedaled.  It was nice to know I didn't forget how to ride.

Have a great weekend!

Today was the day of the Edneyville Elementary Spring Fling 5K

It was a fun course and I finished a little under 30 min. Did not see my time, but my HR-monitor stopped at 29:49 and that was maybe 15 s after I finished the race.
I ran like the wind in the end and was neck to neck with this 10 year old boy, Bobby. He finally beat me with 2 seconds or so.

Great job, speedy Mia!  I don't think I will ever be that fast!

But, it turns out, I have a heckuva lot of endurance.  I just finished my 4 hour spinathon.  We raised over $7,000 to send kids in our community to camp/sports programs at the YMCA, and I proved to myself I could achieve something I never even dreamed of before.  My longest road ride, so far, is only about 7 miles, and my longest run, a little over 2 hours, so I was nervous.  BUT, I followed the excellent advice of her Yanti-ness and dialed back the resistance a bit for the first 2.5 hours, and I made it through.  Not just gasping for breath and barely holding on, but pull-out-all-stops-and-climb-away-baby during the last hour.  I truly just wept when it was over, because I am still flabbergasted that I did it!
