IceManScott - 2011-01-07 2:11 PM Hey Charles.  I don't know about anyone else, but it is hard to predict another's progress without knowing you pretty well.  But I do know this:  My first couple of triathlons were all about finishing and having a blast.  Fun times while doing my best.  Then reflecting on the race, what could I have done better, what did I do well and that gave me a gauge to set some realistic attainable goals that stretched me next time.   Trithlon - it is swimming, biking and running but for me it's all about the smiling.

x2 You never know what your time will look like until until you throw all 3 together. Even then its gonna be different day to day depending on how you feel. On a race day you could feel like crap and not even want to be there. Then again, you could feel like crap all throughout training and then feel great on race day and blow yourself away with what you can do.

zee744 - 2011-01-07 8:40 AM Sounds like everyone is having a great start to the year!! Hopefully it continues. If it doesn't, know that there is a nice group of people here to whip your @ss back in gear!! Wink

Idle threat!   You might have 25 people looking at your logs and seeing the lack of workouts.  Maybe even offering some gentle nudges to do something...

My accomplishments so far:

-I've been working out everyday this week (for me its kinda sad that has to be an accomplishment). Do something for 21 days straight and it becomes habit.

Fixed that for you!  DON'T DISCOUNT YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS!!  You can't work out 21-days straight if you don't hit 7-days straight.  Doesn't matter whether you're training for a 5K or an Ironman, you have to do something and do it consistently.

-I haven't lost as much on my run as I thought I would, despite these lovely shin splints.

-I've been limiting my snacking. I have the sweet tooth of all sweet tooths(should that be teeth?) but have been doing fairly well. Sugar free jello and Oatmeal with raisins, a little brown sugar and peanut butter have helped this.

Also good!

Keep up the good work everyone!

On another note...I found some Zoot compression socks for $42 at onetri.com, which is the cheapest I have seen them anywhere. They also had some pretty good deals on other things.

Yea, I know. It sucks to look back and see what I was doing before.

IceManScott - 2011-01-07 11:39 AM To lose 200 pounds I learned that if it isn't in the house, I can't eat it.  Easier for the single guy I was, I know.  We do the same now.  Grand kids get good food when they come and all sweets are out the door with them...

Need some snack ideas. I've been getting hungry at night and don't want to eat junk, but need too eat something. Preferably something filling. I want to incorporate more veggies into my diet as snacks, but I don't like them plain and can't stand the "dipping" dressings like Ranch, blue cheese etc.

Any thoughts? Doesn't necessarily need to be veggies, just stuff thats better for you than crackers, chips etc. I already get in plenty of nuts, but they tend to go quickly as I love them.

Note: I don't like yogurt, cottage cheese or anything similar that smells THAT disgusting.

Hummus.

McFuzz - 2011-01-06 10:17 PM We're a week into 2011.  What are your successes so far?

I've been sick all week. So I guess it's some sort of success that I'm REALLY upset I can't run. I mean, when I started this running thing 6 or 7 months ago, I wouldn't have believed I would ever WANT to run! I have a 5k on Sunday and unless I wake up feeling normal tomorrow... I might not get to do it. BOO!

I signed up for a triathlon in April, but I did that last year. Joining the triathlon team here in Miami was a big move though, they are all so fit!! So, sticking with that is an accomplishment.

As soon as I can start training this year, I'll let you know!

Oh no, I do know what I'm missing. I do throw yogurt in my smoothies, but can't eat it on its own. Fiber one bars are good, but they cause...um..issues.

I've tried hummus in the past, but it falls into the smelly category. I'll try it again and see what I think.

Some of the changes we're making take so long that we often fail to appreciate the real significance.  Take some time every week/month/year to reflect on what you've done that makes you proud.

YES! Wabash, can you imagine a world without peanut butter? You can spread it on half a whole wheat english muffin. Speaking of those...sometimes I toast one, then take a slice of provolone and melt it on top in the micro... guilt free half a cheese sandy.

Successes:  - Made it through the first week back after winter break. (fellow teachers can relate)
                  - Signed up for 3 races, although my husband might not consider that a success since he had just given me the annual                        "we can't put anything on the credit card" speech.
                   - Training was consistent and felt good.

Peanut Butter is definately the best.  And all of you who suggested natural peanut butter... Thank You Thank you thank you.  It tastes so much better than regular peanut butter, especially on wheat crackers.

I eat six times a day.  Three meals and three snacks.

Some of my favorite snacks are :

1 bannana sliced into half. Take natural peanut butter and I put 2 tabloespopons on the bannana (on the dry side).  I then take half of a (Yoplait) boston creme pie (fate free) and put over the P-Butter with some natural granola.  I love this and its approx. 300 calories.

I also take graham crackers and place natural p-butter on one side.  I then put fate free whipped topping and make a sandwich.  I place them in the freezer and wait until the get frozen....taste like a ice cream sandwich.  3 of these are also around 300 calories.

I hit all my workouts, I cut out alcohol which is sad and temporary, I love a glass of wine at night. My biggest accomplishment this week was getting a lot of work done! I'm self employed and its too easy for me to lose chunks of work time dillying about on line, I didnt do that at all this week, that's huge for me and I notice my mood is always better when I've had a productive day.

SNACKS: I love this topic. x4 on peanutbutter! I eat it almost every day. I like an apple a day, keeps the doctor away. Zee744, If you're eating enough during the day, starting with a good big breakfast that keeps you full for a long time (say, oatmeal) and a decent lunch, you shouldnt really be feeling too snacky... I eat a snack after I work out mid morning (1/2 a peanutbutter sandwich) and maybe a piece of fruit around 3-4:00 but thats it for the snax.

I'm with Iceman, if you dont want to be eating icecream, dont buy it ; )
