Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hgoudreau - 2011-04-30 10:53 AM I had planned to do my long run (14.5km or 9 miles) today, and my bike/cross training tomorrow.. then I got all ready (including filling the water bottles, getting dressed, etc.) before I realized the battery on my ipod was dead. I'm meeting my mom for hot yoga just after lunch, and, from what I understand, you aren't supposed to run after hot yoga (something about risk of getting hurt), so I'm rethinking the plan. I'm going to bike the run route today, then do the run tomorrow morning.. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Heather, you can always run without them. Just think you won't be able to use them in any USAT triathlon. I try to do about half of my runs/bikes without music ( I know your not supposed to bike with music, I keep it low) just for that reason.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well the race didn't go as I had planned but I did beat my current marathon PR significantly (previous 4:26:00) I ended up unofficially finishing at 4:15:13. Had a great 1/2 and was 1:57:00. Hit the wall and the wall of wind around 20/21 and lower calves and achilles started twinging and cramping and after that I really hit the wall and struggled. Turned out to be great day though. Finished on the 50 yard line of University of Illinois Memorial Statium. Just relaxing at hotel now and then heading back for the kids 1K race at 2:00pm in the stadium. My kids are so pumped (Evan 6, Sophia 3) to run this and get a medal like Dad. Thanks to everyone for your support and thoughts today it definitley helped! |

Hey there is nothing wrong with getting a PR hell you beat it by almost 11mins that is great! Sounds like you were banking some time with a 1:57 half. Enjoy the day with your family! Great job!!!!!! Edited by razorxp 2011-04-30 2:30 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tim - great marathon. A PR is a PR. Enjoy the feeling and celebrate with the family. KC - Hopefully your weather will let you get out a golf / ride / swim / bike tomorrow. I got in a great ride this morning. Headed out in southern Indiana on unfamiliar roads. Just headed east until the road forced me to turn, then headed north until I hit 13 miles. Turned around and went back in more than 6 minutes faster. After that my group hit he links for a perfect day of golf. a few good drives and putts, and of course many laughs at some first round of season shots. More of the same tomorow. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. Tim - nice work - awesome job and I hope the kids had a great afternoon - they are going to remember and brag about Dad for a long time. Brian - Thanks - have a great time, it sounds only perfect I took the BP machine off at noon and will find out the results of all the readings sometime next I week I am guessing. As you can imagine, I am a bit tired but I got a few things done today. I cut the lawn, sprayed for weeds, and even got a swim in tonight. It was a short easy one but it was nice and relaxing. I am going to sleep like a baby tonight. I hope everyone had a great day. KC |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice Race Tim - That's awesome. I had a lousy week training with Sick kids, little league and way more rain than our area could handle. Although I can't complain when compared to the awful weather in the south. I am hoping that they can get a break over the next week or so, what an awful week. I have a hilly 10 mile race in morning so of to bed. I am hoping to average 10:30, but that would be pushing it for me. I have yet to run this distance ever so no matter what it will be a distance PR and a time PR. Weather is supposed to be beautiful. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kcgolf - 2011-04-27 10:28 PM OK - cool news I want to share with the group from today - I did my longest run this afternoon 10 KM I was worried I may have spent myself for the swim tonight but I got to the pool and enjoyed a nice 1000 meters (various 100's and 50's) and again I took a big step I think. The pool was busy and 2 months ago I would probably have just left but I got there early, picked a lane and settled in. 2 younger guys jumped in my lane and were all over the place so I decided to instruct them on proper lane manners, after running over one of them (on purpose) LOL. I think that Cliff Bar video motivated me. Sorry Coach, but I was not carrying my gun in my speedos (wow that sounds funny That is it for me Team - just wanted to share a good day. Tomorrow, work in the morning and a visit to my family doctor to discuss results and next steps from the results of all the tests from my heart doctor. I can tell you this though - the heart worked pretty good today Have a great night everyone. KC
KC I may be late but wanted to congratulate you on an awesome day. Nicely done. Negative split on the 10K!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Morning Team. Thanks Charlie and good luck on your run this morning. I had a biked ride scheduled for 7 am this morning but the thunder and lightning kept me in bed - which I enjoyed to be honest Maybe I will get it in sometime this afternoon. Have a great day everyone. KC |

I am not sure when you first official race is but whenever it is you are going to kick some A$S. One more thing, I just looked at your log page and I see one of your goals for the year is to "swim don't drown" LOL - I think your safe.

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry guys I've been MIA prepping for the race yesterday. Mann I have lots of reading to catch up on. So the great news is...I completed my first Sprint Triathlon! My goal was to finish under 3hrs. As you all know my major concern was the swim. I wish I would have took swimming lesson. The cut off times were 800 m Swim=45min 22.5k Bike=2hrs 5k Run=1hr My over all ranking was 231 out of 649. My division ranking was 59 out of 125. My swim time was 31min. I sucked and swam 85% with my head above water. I beat the cut off time and only held on to one paddle boarder for a min and 1 kayak for a sec. I was pushed off course by the current and had to tire out getting back. Over all I'm content with my swim. My Bike time was 50:51. I tired to make up time on the bike and didn't do too bad. It was very windy but I fought through it. Avg speed 16.5mph I only lost 1mph because of the wind so I was very happy. My run time was 29:27. A tad slower pace then what I wanted but running on trails in gravel and rocks freak me out because of my ankle. But once I got back on the pavement I hauled a$$ to the finish line. My over all time was 1:57 With a 9.30 pace!!!! I am so happy!!! I found out they don't call this Iron Girl for no reason. The sprint I watch 2weeks ago seemed a lil less intense then Iron Girl because there wasn't as many hills. I added major hills into my running a month ago and I was happy I did. Iron girl=hills hills hills. I will do this event again next year to beat my times (swim lessons, more OWS, and trail running shoes). For now I will now begin my training for the Oly this Oct. I hope you guys enjoyed your weekend and have great training days! Edited by jend702 2011-05-01 9:42 AM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tim - Congratulations on the race and a PR. Great job. KC - Glad you got your monitor off. Hopefully it will give you some helpful info. Jen - Congrats on the tri! Sounds like you had fun. I think its a great idea to do the same course again next year too. 3 of the tri's I am doing this season will be repeat courses. It's really interesting to see how your tmes compare after each season. Charlie - How was the 10 miler? Great training weekend for me, the weather has been fantastic. Yesterday was a 30 min swim > 1:45 bike finished off with a 30 min run. Today was a 45 mile ride. Also, picked up a new saddle today, and I'm about to go and get my bike tuned up and hopefully get a fit. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally got out on the bike yesterday for the first time since we moved. I went to a bike path a couple blocks from the new place and it pretty much sucked. A lot of blind corners and cutbacks so I couldn't ride hard at all because I was always having to slow down. I got lost a few times because there were all these paths off the main path that would just dead-end and no signs noting that they didn't go anywhere. I somehow made it back to my car. Not a very fun ride. Going to spend some time looking up some routes on BT to see if what safe routes there are around here. Already miss being able to ride out my driveway and not have to worry about traffic or lights or much of anything but riding. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice Race Jen!! You should be very proud of yourself.
I finished my 10 Miler in 1:47:35, and am very pleased. The course is very hilly and this is the longest I have ever run so I wasn't sure what to expect. I already created my race report: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=250363
Well I have to get ready for Little League practice. Have a great day everybody. |

![]() | ![]() Way to go Jen and Charlie! How wonderful for both of you!!! Confession- skipping my 2 hour ride today and going for a run later instead. Too much to do around the house before the week gets going. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team - hope all is well. Deb - awesome training - crazy good. Charlie - very nice Mary - enjoy the run As for me, rain and thunder ruined my morning ride and I never got back to it. I caught up on the sleep I missed from Friday night. Once the rain stopped, I decided to do some more yard work - I have an artificial putting green in my back yard with two bunkers and they needed edging so I decided to tackle that - it is a big job. I also decided to cut back two big ornamental grasses at the front of my house and after that - well one thing ran into another - I took all the yard waste to the city drop off - and the day was almost done LOL. I have also ordered mulch for my flower beds that is being delivered Monday so I have some more work to do but I am hoping to have it all tuned in by next weekend. Maybe I should buy a condo? LOL. I did get to hit some balls, which was nice. I live on a golf course so I walked over to the practice area and enjoyed an hour of ball beating. I was going to try and get to the pool tonight but I decided to give myself a night off and will get back at it tomorrow night. So there you have it, no specific tri training for me today but a lot of activity and some heavy lifting. I will be back on schedule tomorrow. Have a great night everyone. KC |

Mt brick was a good one...the bike was awesomew in the full race setup-- so i am very excited for my first tri in 2 weeks. New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() razorxp - 2011-04-30 1:29 PM Heather, you can always run without them. Just think you won't be able to use them in any USAT triathlon. I try to do about half of my runs/bikes without music ( I know your not supposed to bike with music, I keep it low) just for that reason.
I see your point, and agree with it, (and do try to run shorter runs without the ipod periodically for that very reason, although I've been lucky so far in that all the races that I have run have allowed ipods).. that being said, this was not the weekend for that type of experiment, as it was my first long run in a few weeks and my first run at all in over a week.. Run is done now. 14.5km. It hurt/sucked about as much as I thought it would (well, the last 4.5km did, anyway - the first 10k felt great!), and I kept falling back on the mantra of "marathon in October means no stopping now..". As the run came after a round of golf (where we walked the course), I'm blaming the fatigue in the last section on slightly tired legs. Tim - congrats on the PR! Jen - congrats on the race (and on shattering your goal time)! Charlie - congrats on the 10 miler! |
