Yeah, that's a good sign. My run LT is around 162, so if I can hold 85-90% of LT I will be in good shape.

TOO HOT in St George for road riding today. Escaped to the MTB trails at higher elevations.

Going to be HARD if its like this race day.
On the bright side, only light breezes, no "WIND".

I think if I have to make a choice between battling a wind in Gunlock canyon with cooler temps, or having only a breeze with higher temps... I'll take the breeze.

It hit 100 degrees today here in St George. But its a 'dry heat', so no problem!

Its 93 in norcal again today. Just heading out for my last long run. Made myself wait till it was good and cooking outside in order to acclimate. My body is definitly ready for taper-I woke this morning, had breakfast and a large cup of coffee, read for a few minutes then fell asleep for 4 hours.

My advice for all your tapers? Train the next 10 days in the hottest part of the day. You can heat acclimate very quickly. And lose weight, get lean.

some thoughts im having.

i cleaned my oven today (why do i always decide to do stuff like that during taper)? does anyone else randomly do weird stuff like that? i also ended up cleaning out the refrigerator and other kitchen deep cleaning.

dropped off my bike and gear bag with tri bike transport today at my LBS. i wrote down everything i packed in case the oven cleaner clouded my judgement. glad to have that out of the way but its going to be weird not to see my bike until may!

had a nice 60 degree OWS in the chesapeake bay on Friday and feeling good about that!

did someone say it was 100 degrees in SG? The hottest ive run in so far is like mid 70s. today was 50 and pouring rain so i did my last 2 hour run on the TM. will definitely be taking the advice here to get out anytime its hot.

Ryan

Its always interesting how every one is so different with taper. I had my last 14 mile run this afternoon and was just draggiing along, couldn't get my HR over 131 and all I could think about is sleeping. Haven't done anything to get ready to leave for Utah. I have a 60 mile bike tomorrow then I'm gonna sleep some more! The idea of cleaning my messy house is needed before I leave but its not gonna happen for a few more days.

If only there was a "hottest" part of the day around here. Today is the warmest we've had and it was a whopping 75 degrees. I did wait until 3 pm for my run and was out there in two long-sleeve black shirts doing the best I could to simulate actual heat. I've also been spending some time in the sauna at the gym. That's about the best I can do here.

That's ok, running in an extra shirt can simulate conditions. I would skip the sauna unless you plan on setting up your trainer in there.

I joked around with somebody about that. "Hey buddy. Excuse me while I set up my trainer and bike in here. You don't mind do you?"

A friend of mine who lives in Portland does this with her sauna she built on her back porch.

Hot yoga is also a good way to access heat.  I did a lot of Bikram leading up to IM Louisville and I think it helped.  Wish I would have done some before Boston, but who knew?

Saw this about the future of the race. http://triathlon.competitor.com/2012/04/news/is-the-future-of-ironman-st-george-in-doubt_51929

Apparently, the local paper, The Spectrum, has an article on it as well, but the page is blank when I try to view it.

it just never picked up, caught steam, took off.  We are still way short on volunteers.

I knew something was off when a sandwich shop located at the finish closed shop at 2pm last year.

From the newspaper...

"There's also no shortage of volunteers. While the event only needs about 2,500, Lewis said more than 4,000 have shown up for the last two events, a number that's expected to be similar this year."

The online newspaper requires a subscription to see that article. Any place where us non-subscribers can read it?
