Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Leegoocrap - 2013-04-20 10:20 AM raced this morning. Got very sick (vomiting) about 250m into the swim. Decided to pull myself despite knowing how much I'd regret it later.
*also, do not do a swim in 45 degree temps without a wetsuit... :P That sucks. Ocean swims are tough. My first tri last year was an ocean swim in September. The water was cold and the waves were massive. People were surfing on the adjacent beach area. Sadly I see more of them in my future. |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Took the last 2 days off because of a cold, but got in the pool this morning and did a run this afternoon. Did increasing 100's, so 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, then a couple random sets at the end just to work on form. Did one 100 at the end just all out and hit 1:14, but that was my absolute maximum effort. Fun to try though. Then threw in a 5-ish mile run this afternoon. I'm just going slow and easy with the run, building up the mileage. |

Expert 2192 Greenville, SC | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed question for Chris: reading your blog i saw that you are considering a road bike with aero bars for short course races? personal preference or have you really seen a difference in performance between the standard TT set up and a road bike with clip ons? just asking because after my HIM i plan on destroying the local tri races here and it can get quite hilly, which is why im guessing you when with the road bike |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Swim finally started really working for me. I've done 45,000 yards this year already which is insane for me seeing as I've never really swam before. Last two times out I really found my groove in how hard I can push while still controlling my breathing and keeping (to me) a decent pace. 3 months ago I could barely do 50 without wanting to die, yesterday I did back to back 500's and felt like I could have kept going forever. My biggest hurdle was just convincing myself that I wasn't going to run out of air and to keep whatever pace worked for me. Of course all this gets thrown out the window until I can prove to myself that I can do it in a race situation in OWS, but I'm pretty stoked on my progress thus far. Sorry for the stroke post, my wife apparently doesn't give me enough attention anymore |

Rode so hard though that i had trouble walking and tying my shoes in T2, got passed by a woman in the last mile. She finished 16 seconds ahead of me.I would def practice the run/bike though. Now i need to get my back in the pool so I can keep up with Jonsmithat05 - 2013-04-21 7:54 PM Raced this morning again, my duathlon. 3 mile run 20:15 15 mile bike 47:00 3 mile run 21:32 or there abouts.

Well, a lot of the shorter races I do involve a lot of turns and climbing. They also are usually two loops, which, IMO is pretty dangerous to ride aero (the second lap on a couple of my races last year I nearly wiped out when I had to dodge a rider on a hybrid.) All that combined made me question whether riding my tri bike ALWAYS was the right choice.
The last race I did in town I used my road bike w/ shorty bars and still managed the top 3 bike splits... I think it was the right choice. I could go into turns without shaving any speed and still had an aero position when I was on a straightaway. |

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed still on vacation, sorry if my posting is spotty.
Went for a run yesterday morning and 4 minutes into it I went down. My left leg felt like it had filled with sand, lost all strength in it... then my right leg did the same. Went down and skinned up my knee... sat on the ground for 10 seconds or so and was able to get back up and walk back to the condo...
scary stuff. Never had that happen before and felt fine the rest of the day... only thing I can figure is my blood glucose crashed. Taking it easy for a few days :/ This vacation has been terrible for my training/racing haha. |

Expert 2192 Greenville, SC | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed finished in 19:09 at my 5k yesterday morning! first time since high school for me to run under 20; felt awesome. ran from the finish line to the parking garage where i parked and got changed for my 100k ride which was an hour after i finished the run. the ride was a lot of fun and the front pack of about 12 of us did a really good job of trading pulls. my girlfriend and her roommate where there to watch the finish in the middle of downtown athens and missed us because we finished way before the officials thought we would. later that afternoon i went back to downtown athens, had some beers, ate some pizza, and watch the mens/womens pro/am crit finals around dt. that.was.awesome. the winner took home $10k..... i really want to do some crit racing now. i'll definitely be keeping an eye out for date of this event next year, whether i do the run/ride or enter a crit. |

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Home safely despite having to drive through the rain all day yesterday (bleh) Doctor's appointment is tomorrow afternoon... no training until I see him, which has almost driven me crazy today since I have nothing to "do" other than laundry and cleaning. Oh well, the house will appreciate it. |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Did my first outdoor ride of the season today. Had to kind of tuck it between watching the kid and doing house stuff in the afternoon, so just 45 minutes, 14 miles. What a great feeling to be back on the road again. Loved just attacking the hills and doing something besides watching movies while I ride. |

Holy cow Clempson, that's a great 5k time!! especially knowing that you had to ride 100k after that. I would probably hold back too much and not put my heart and soul into the 5k. Good luck with your Crit Training if you decide to participate. |

Cut and split firewood all day today so I guess thats kinda like cross training.
Hoping to get up early and go swim in the morn before work. Juggling kid duties is getting more difficult. I just can't imagine how I would train at all if my wife worked. |
