Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread Nah, they're not ALL hot. The guy who coaches our master's team is in his 60s. Definitely not hot. He is in good shape, though so you gotta give the guy props for not being a paunchy old man. I get one on one coaching too, which would be A LOT better if he were like 30 and smokin'.
Got in another run this morning. Yay! I definitely will not be able to keep up the endless circles around the track all winter, though. I looked into some running clubs in the area, but I work too late and too far from them to make it on time - at least the ones I've found so far. They're usually all off and running by 6:30, and I wouldn't even be able to make it to most places by 6:30. I wish there were some that ran in the mornings... A l;ot of the local running stores here have group runs that leave from the store several times a week. you might check if your LRS has one to get in on. I have yet to actually MAKE it to the group run from the store but it might be an option if you can get there |

Hmm...I will check that out - there is a running store almost across the street from my neighborhood, which is actually where I bought my sneakers. I work about 2 miles from my house, so that would be doable if they start late enough. Didn't think to check there |

I looked into running clubs, but have the same problem, Chrissy. I don't even get off work until 6:30 each evening. That makes it a real challenge for me to try and join in on any evening activities with clubs. |

LOL! Yeah, I was telling my boss about my schedule for this week. He just looked at me kind of blankly for about 10 seconds and then said, "Damn, just hearing your schedule makes me tired!" Speaking of which, I may be a lot quieter during the day over the next several days. I'm attending an off-site training class and I have no idea if there will be internet connectivity in the classroom. Then, I'm leaving on Friday morning to head up to Modesto for the weekend. I'm taking my laptop, but probably won't be spending too much time in my hotel room other than in the evenings. I've already confirmed they have a fitness room and pool, so I definitely plan to stick with my training schedule while I'm there. |

Yup, just checked local store - no running group. Yeah, I don't get off until 6, and I don't have the kind of job where I can be flexible with my hours (like come in at 7 and leave at 4, etc). I work 9 to 6, usually without lunch break, and often come in early b/c I got to the gym, and I'm pretty much chained to my desk during those hours. If I leave early, I get the backlash from the President's admin, who is NOT my boss, but it's just not worth the hassle and the glares and the questions, etc. And I work in a heavily trafficked area where it takes at least 30 minutes to go a few miles in any direction. |

Runner | Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread If I may interject into the conversation...... If you're really interested in a running club, talk to the local running shop, and see if they would help organize one. Best bet is to ask them to help organize things, and try to work a deal where the members would get a discount for shopping at the store. Team jerseys and shirts work, too. Where I live, we have a number of clubs, and many of them have either organized runs both at night and the morning, or the members organize amongst themselves to meet. If you're interested in seeing what I mean, look at Valley Forge Striders, or BMRC. |

He just looked at me kind of blankly for about 10 seconds and then said, "Damn, just hearing your schedule makes me tired!" Yup, everyone at work thinks I'm mental even when I am having a slacking off week (slacking off for me, that is). They all think it's insane that I go to the gym regularly. Although my boss is training for a marathon, she still looks at me like I've lost my mind However, I am trying to coerce her to join the gym for the winter (since it's so cheap for us) and maybe I can rope her into training with me Not necessarily for the goal of a tri (she doesn't have a bike or the constitution to commit to something like that), but just for her own well-being Her job is stressful (mine is too, though I'm not as important) and she doesn't handle stress well so I think it would help. She's cool and we get along (we're only 9 months apart in age) and so I worry about her. Edited by wurkit_gurl 2007-10-16 10:09 AM |

You should contact them anyway to see if there's anyone in the group who has the same problems as you, as far as time. Our tri club is south of us, but there are people in the north county who also can't meet all the training events, so they hook us up with one another so we'll have training buddies. |

Actually, I'm kind of digging being in my early 40's. It's the new 30, ya' know. Even for a hottie, no way I'd want to relive my 20's again. Well, unless I could take back all the knowledge I have now to then. Can we all say YAY for internet access at a training class?!?! |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: The Things That Go Bump In The Night Team Thread HI TEAM!!! Sorry I was off the airwaves this morning ... once in a while I gotta live and work, too. For once I'm going to discuss running, since I'm sure my posts will manage to devolve quickly, as usual. Chrissy--there's gotta be morning workout folks just dying for you (and I'd say in particular YOU ) to find them. Runners are notorious whackadoodles who get up before the buttcrack of dawn just to tear around in circles (or out-n-backs or whatever). Scout's (WHO IS SCOUT?!?!) suggestion about the running stores is great, especially since you're likely to get great schwag out of it. Judi's thoughts are excellent, too. Let us know if you find something!!! I have a 5K on deck this weekend. It's gonna be just for fun 'cause the 23-miler won't be out of my legs yet. |

However...I did get an email from my ex-boyfriend (the cyclist who moved to Switzerland) who told me that the jacket I ordered him as a belated birthday-going away present finally arrived (long story regarding both why I bought my ex a present and what happened when I ordered the jacket) - he sent me cute pics and "kisses" (he wrote it in french, albeit misspelled) in the email :-D I am VERY smiley right now and do not want to be at work. |

I found out from a mutual friend that he was leaving, and then I ran into him on the bike path. We had a nice dinner (and a snuggle) at my apartment before he left. I had wanted to get him a cycling jersey as a going-away present, but couldn't find anything I liked that I knew he'd like (in his size anyway) before he left. I also still owed him part of his 29th birthday gift, which was from when we were dating. So I said I would order him something and have it shipped. I told him if he wanted to pick something out, he could and I would order it for him. So he picked a very nice cycling jacket with the Gerolsteiner logo on it from a European website. So I ordered it, doing the best I could with the weird European postal codes and the order form that didn't seem to have the right spaces. I had it shipped to him, since it was cheaper than having it shipped here and then shipping it back to Europe. After a week, he hadn't gotten it, so I emailed the company - they hadn't shipped it until a week after I ordered it. After another week, it still hadn't arrived - I then got an email saying that "you sent back the package- why?". Umm...I never sent it back and neither did my ex! So clearly, it didn't get there. They said the postal code was not right, so I explained that there did not seem to be the correct format of boxes to write it the way I was told. So I gave them the correct address. So he finally got it today. I will attempt to attach the pic of him in the jacket that he took. Here is a link to his blog - he is the tall white guy in all the pictures of the most recent entry. He's living in Geneva, working for the World Intellectual Property Organization for a year - after this, who knows...he is an avid cyclist and runner and is having a blast riding all over the Alps - done a few races too! He's a really cool guy. http://brian-beckham-geneva.blogspot.com/ (hottie.jpg) Attachments ---------------- hottie.jpg (50KB - 8 downloads) |
