Happy Friday!  So, I know Hilary and Davewithnumbers are racing this weekend, anyone else?

I'm hoping to get some good miles on the bike.  May go up to watch the collegiate cycling championchips tomorrow if it's not raining, and Sunday will likely be a 50 mile group ride with some tri buddies.  Also going to do some home improvement stuff and work on our wedding service...

So, let us know what you are up to!

Dave - I'll let you know what I come up with as well.  I have to somewhat emphasize swimming since I haven't been in the pool for months and months now but I need to make sure I don't lose and preferably continue to gain some run and bike fitness.  After doing that 15k run, I started focusing more on the bike and I feel like I've lost run fitness which I can't afford :).

I guess it takes a while to figure this all out.  Have to say I'm about ready to have a coach figure it out for me :)

I know the feeling - me.. I'm going to concenrate of run and bike. I'll post what I come up with....

I have a race tomorrow but will either walk or volunteer instead.

Good luck Dave and Hilary!

Well all the training and planning don't do much good when your body decides to freak out on you on race day.  Not sure if anyone remembers that extreme cramping I was having in my quads earlier this year?  Well, it decided to come back today of all days and started on the bike from the parking to transition.  I tried to get it worked out before the race started and was feeling like I had a chance.  Got .60 miles into the run and had to stop and drop out.  I'm feeling pretty low right now but there was no way to continue.  Imagine your quad muscles cramping so severely that it actually pushes your knee cap over.  I could barely walk back to the start and they still hurt now over 4 hours later.

I thought I was well hydrated so I'm puzzled by the cramping.  All I can figure is the stomach flu messed me up more than I realized.  It was pretty cold this morning too and I didn't wear pants so I'm sure that didn't help.  I guess the worse part is not understanding why it happened.  I even talked to the sports medicine docs in the medical tent and they couldn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Only positive is I got to observe transitions some for my next race and they said since I DNF'd this I could be a Novice still for the June race.  Still would have rather done this race.

Bummer Hilary!  Can you share what your nutrition was for 48 hours before the race?  Fluid and electrolyte intake?  So sorry you had a rough day.

MONDAY CHECK IN!!!!

So, not such a good weekend for racing!  Did the rest of y'all get out and get some exercise in?  I was thrilled to be able to get almost 90 in on the bike over the two days.  It's in the 60's and sunny at the moment and I may skip my meeting after work to get out and do a short bike/run brick.

Anything exciting going on this week? Races this coming weekend?

Geez, Hillary!  That really sucks!  Do you ever get a professional massage? I don't know if that could have prevented it, but would probably help them get better now.

I know all sorts of cool stuff like "rollin' one deep" and "twank deuces" and more.  Just not up to date on the abbreviations.  I only just started texting a few months ago and am still sooper slow...  It has already been proven that I'm the grumpy guy who likes to call the cops.    Watch out if I have daughters, any boy that comes around is going to be aware of me, to say the least.  I know what boys are like when they are teenagers!

That's very interesting Hilary.  You usually think of low sodium as causing muscle cramps but it looks like high sodium, when you are losing water at a faster rate than you're losing sodium, can also cause cramping and/or twitching.

I hope your legs feel better soon!!!!

This is my Tuesday's Monday check in.

I was out of town on business this weekend starting Friday and just got back tonight.  I had a seminar I was attending in Ohio so I flew into Milwaukee to see the family and we all drove together to Ohio.  Since we used to live not far from where I was staying we visited old friends of ours on Sunday and Monday.  I flew back to Houston from Cleveland and the wife and kids drove back to Wisconsin this morning.

No racing this weekend and only 1 training run this weekend.  Got to see one of my best buds out on the run so that was cool.  My next race is 5/3.  Another sprint tri.

Dave w/ numbers - too bad to hear your race wasn't as good as you had hoped.  The important thing is that you were out there having fun.  And hopefully the volunteers were still cute!

Hillary - sorry 'bout the leg issues during your race.  Don't get discouraged though.  Even the pro triathletes have to pull out of races!

PeterAK and Force - can't put into words how much your mastery of text and hip dialect inspires the rest of us to learn a new language.  We are but panderning knaves to your prowess of the latest phonetics!

OK? Wednesday Check In:

Exciting news for me anyway - just bought my first Tri Bike tonight - a Trek Equinox 7.  She's a beaut!  Name is Queen T for now! (long story) (Pete probably knows most of it).  Anyway - took the day off today as a recovery day.  My entire left side of my body was acting up.  My knee that I had sugery on.  My achilles area was hurting some more.  My syatic nerve issues from a WAY LONG AGO injury (it was a 3-2 curve ball w/ 2 outs and 2 runners on situation) (drove in the only two runs of the game by the way).

I hope to fully recover by 5/3 which is my next race!  After that I might try one on  5/18 - we'll see.

Later guys and gals!

Nice purchase Spanglers!  I love my E9.

So who is racing this weekend?  I'm doing my first bike race--a 25 mile road race.  I'm nervous and excited about it!

I see that there is a new batch of mentor groups starting.  I'd like to keep this one going if you guys are interested!  Please share your thoughts.
