I had to bike til midnight to get my 90m ride in yesterday but knew today was my off day. Still have my long run left on Sunday to complete my goals so didn't want to have to do long bike and long run on back to back days. 47m is a loooong run for me. On the bright side...it's going to be 38!!!! Heatwave!!! My first outside run! |

Master 2115 Dothan, Al | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Wow, I just don't know if i could survive anywhere 38* is a heatwave. Brrr. It's about 38 here also, and rainy. I have Brodie for the day, as his mommy has to work. I'll do my 25 minute run tomorrow, and post it with my next week's challenge. I think just scheduling next week's training may be the bggest challange. I'll have duty on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday, plus be in class Tuesday. This should be intresting!!! Regular 57 Bristol, CT | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Been following along, you are all kicking some *ss this week!!! Midnight rides, yoga out the wazoo, swim workouts, I feel lazy just reading what everyone is doing. Makes me want to avoid a "white" day on the training calendar at all costs! Good thing I skipped the "goal challenge" this week, just focused mostly on running this week. My winter marathon is officially 29 days out, and tomorrow's workout is a 20-mile run. Naturally, the temps are expected to be in the 20's with a 40% chance of snow showers. I wish I were making that up!! Unlike my recent marathons where my goal was to enjoy it rather than push it, this time I plan on pushing the pace (under 3:15 would be great!). What I'll be in store for that day, physically and mentally, is already on my mind. So whether your doing your first tri this year or your 9th marathon, we all go through the same worries, concerns and fears. It doesn't matter if your first, 100th, second-to-last, or you start crawling on mile 25 like I'll likely do, it's all about getting out there and doing what you enjoy. There's no such thing as failure in this sport, just experiences. And your experiences will be as good as you make it!! Happy training this weekend. |

Master 2115 Dothan, Al | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Way SF, you really picked a heck of a marathon to decide to push the pace! I guyess trying to experience the fun in those temps would be kind of tough, LOL. Thanks for the great motivation in your last paragraph, very very inspiring! |

Veteran 174 | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Ok...I just have to say this...I am amazed. I was debating whether or not to join a mentor group despite really... really wanting to. But I was hesitant because truly I run and bike at a snails pace. So... I joined along with all of you and I am in awe at the difference it has made. It really has boosted my confidence and I want to thank you. Who would have guessed I could run or bike as much as I have lately? Furthermore ... I did it. I just signed up for my FIRST sprint tri!!! It is official... I am doing the tri for the cure in April! I can go from excited to intimitated in 10 seconds! Which tri did you sign up for Elizabeth? Congrats!! I'm off to swim. I had a session with my PT yesterday because I've got a little overuse injury with my left shoulder and I've got some strengthening exercises, plus he's a triathlete so he gave me some drills for the pool, which if I quit typing now, I'll make the pool times this a.m. Keep on rollin' splashing and running -- I've got one more swim and a bike to finish my goals for the week! ~~Lynn |

Pro 3932 Irvine, California | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Just got in a nice 1.5 hour bike ride with some friends. The first half kicked my a$$, since it was slightly uphill into the wind. Coming back was fun, though. So now I'm actually 25 minutes past my biking goal for the week. I still have a 40-minute swim to get in, and a 40-minute run, which might have to be on the elliptical, since they're predicting a downpour later today I think, and rain tomorrow as well. Hey Robyn, I hope things start settling down a little for you soon -- sounds like you could use a breather! I can only imagine how stressful it must've been to move cross country like you did, and have to find a new place, start a new job, fly overseas right away, etc. etc. And I also suspect you maybe feel a little overwhelmed with our big mentor group. But don't -- we're all just hanging out and enjoying ourselves, and making ourselves at home. |

Member 48 Denver,CO | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed I have one more swim and a bike ride tomorrow. It is supposed to be in the 50s Sunday so I hope to ride outside. That will be nice from all the cold weather Denver has been having. I have just enough time to make it to the pool tonight. I start swimming lessons next week. I feel like I am drowning. I can't seem to get the breathing right. That's what the lessons are for. Laura |

I would say it counts but unless it is put on by a "biking" instructor they are not geared to people trying to complete in a tri. The ones I have done are all about burning calories instead of building a base or working hills. I have never performed 50 jumps on my tri bike! lol |

Member 67 Eastern PA | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed I have a question... I tried searching the forums, but having limited luck. I was looking at a set of race results to check out times, and I noticed a column called "pace penalty" and I am not sure what that means. I thought it might be drafting, but almost every competitor in the list had a pace penaly. So... what is it? |

Master 2115 Dothan, Al | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Teash, i just went and looked at some race results to see if I could figure out what a "Pace Penalty" is. I think, from what I read, Pace was one thing, and penalty was another. Take a look at these results and tell me what you think. http://www.doitsports.com/newresults3/client/97924_137637_2005.txt Okay I got my rerstance training in last night, but due to the wife using the computer to do her homework, I could not post until today. I also have a 25 minute run to do today. I'll do it this afternoon when I take my son to his Gran-T's house to play. Here is next weeks goal's / schedule: Mon: 24 hour duty at FD run 25 minutes. Tue: Swim 25 minutes. Chiro Apointment. Class from 1-6 pm. Wed: Brick Swim 25 min / Bike 30 min. Thur: 24 hr duty at FD run 30 min. Fri:Bike 45 minutes Sat: make up day / rest day. Sun: make up day, rest day.

I thought it might be drafting, but almost every competitor in the list had a pace penaly. So... what is it? I think that what you are probably looking at is two columns next to each other. One is Pace per mile or km, and the other is penalty time, if any was given. For the most part penalties aren't give out that much, so it looks like just one column. |

Master 1887 Loveland, Ohio | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Soooo many excuses NOT to bike today:
I decided to just go out and do it and it was very, very tough. I ended up doing circles on the flat top of my driveway and riding from one side of the house to the other back and forth. My neighbors must think I'm weird - and they'd be right. It was so tough, I broke it off after 15 minutes and my legs were so weak. I was, however, able to turn this into a brick, following up my bike with a 45 minute walk. In the end, I did not meet 100% of my goals this week. I did meet my yoga goals and fell shy 5 minutes on my bike, but I only got 2 out of 3 strength trainings and 3 out of 5 walks done. Still better than having done nothing at all, right? |

Master 1332 Vista, CA | Subject: RE: triOK's group - The best group - Closed Hi -- I met my goals for the week, but now have a little shoulder irritaiton I"m taking care of with Physical therapy. I'll be backing off on freestyle for a while until I"m pain free and will be doing drills instead. I did my first "brick" yesterday with a swim for 35 and then a bike for 48. My legs were feeling solid. Then finished up with 10 minutes of various ab work. It's time for next week's goals, I guess. Here they are: 2 runs @ 30 minutes with 10 min or under pace 2 swim (drills) 35 to 45 minutes each 2 bikes 35 and 45 min. each 2 strength training/core work daily stretching (I"m learning how important this one is!) 1 formal yoga session I might try a bike and run for fun one day. Happy training everyone. I really appreciate being able to touch in here and know others are working it, too. Finished my goals for the week...it wasn't pretty...first outside run of the year which should have been enjoyable...going from the treadmill to the asphalt i felt like i weighed an extra 100 pounds...very much a struggle to complete...and I hate to see how far I went when i figure it out. It's done anyways. |
