I'm having an identity crisis now that my season and vacation are over.  School starts in one week, so I'm sure I'll have a better handle on how to fit workouts into my schedule then... but this "purgatory" of sorts is messing with my head!

A friend, however, said she's interested in a relay in September.  (She actually broke her hip while completing a tri and still is unable to bike or run per dr's order.

The first few weeks of an offseason is really awkward!  Set some offseason goals for yourself.  Try to stay active, enjoy unstructured training, maybe incorporate some strength training. Look for an early season tri, marathon, or half, 10K's or whatever.  There is bound to be some "Turkey Trots" happening around thanksgiving?

I am working on my offseason goals/plans now and they look something like this:

Sept - December 2010:
1. Do not put on weight!  I'm at 185 now and I will not go over 190!
2. Get back to the wieghts.  I am going to begin lifting again using the crossfit platform as my training plan.
3. Increase flexibility, start taking Yoga!
4. Complete a century ride
5. Log 2000 bike miles for the year

Jan - April 2011:
1. Drop 10-15lbs, 2011 race weight to be 175 before April 17th
3. Work with Coach Adam again to improve swimming
2. Work on running speed, 6:30 5K pace, 6:50 10K, 7:10 1/2 marry
3. Unite 1/2 Marathon, April 17th 2011

Don't know if anyone is around anymore but I hope everyone is well.  I completed my first Oly yesterday at Buck Creek State Park in Springfield, Ohio yesterday.  I finished in 3:15 although I do not have splits yet.  I also took 2nd place in my division.  OK, so there were only 3 guys over 40 and over 225 pounds but hey its a great plaque and I will take it.  There had to be 4 or 500 people in this race.  It was busy.  We stayed in Fairborn, Ohio Saturday night.  Side Note.  On Saturday we found a Sonic in Columbus and chowed down.  Anyway, Jake was so excited to be in same room with mom and dad that he stayed up most of the night.  I guess the popcorn and coke and Toy Story 1 and 2 did not help.  LOL

Noel - How is the little one doing?  Very cute baby.

Brian - How is prep for your HIM going?

Crissy - How is training going.  Congrats on your first tri.

Robin - I figured I see you at Buck Creek this past weekend.  It was a great venue and reaaly nice people.

Rhonda - Still cranking out the swim miles?  How is bike and run going?

Take Care All and Check in When You Can.

Way to go, Tom!  My season is over, except for a relay that I'll be doing with the DH and a friend.  I may look into it for next year.  Great job earning the hardware!  Doesn't it feel great?!

Looking forward to your race report!

Tom, way to go man!  Taking home the hardware is amazing!

Things are going well here at my house.  Adjusting to the new addition has gone pretty smoothly.  She's such a quiet and calm baby, hopefully it stays that way!  I've been in charge of my son for the post part, which has been exhausting  but fun.  I've been able to get in some workouts, usually taking my son on a run in the jogger before my wife and Finley get up.  I've also got in one swim during afternoon nap time and I'm planning on getting in a bike ride this afternoon when my mother in law comes over.  So I've been pretty happy that I've been able to workout.  Which is good considering all the food I've been eating!

School starts in two weeks, so I know my training will be even lower once I add work to the two kids mix.  But hopefully I can fall into a routine!

I hope you guys are doing great!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Brian how is training for the HIM going?  Only 2 weeks until the big Tri.

Noel how is you little one.  Getting any sleep yet?

Robin are you still trianing?  Next year I am thinking about doing the HIM for the Great Buckeye Challenge in your neck of the woods.  You would like the course.  The ride is rollers with one big hill and the run is through the park.

Great story.  Last night I am feeling great.  I get on my bike an am cruising at an average of 19.2.  Ok so at mile 10.58 I hit a rock and pow there goes my tire.  At first I looked at it like OK great now I can try my new Co2 Cartridge I bought at the last expo and this would be great trianing in case it happens again.  I take the tube out.  I check the tire which has a small bruise and pinhole fromt he rock but figue OK I just won't put as much into it and I should be fine.  Ha! Ha!
I used my hand pump to get the new tube formed, put it in the tire, hit it with Co2 and BAM! Right through the pinhole it went.  LOL.

Wife was at baby shower so of course she isn't going to hear here phone ring and I am on a major two lane road and am not even going to walk 10.58 miles home in bike shoes or bare feet and the cars going by are probably not going to pick me up.  Finally after about an hour Kelly checks her messages and comes to get me.  Like any brain-challenged husband I say.  "Thanks for picking me up. That baby shower did not last very long".  She looks at me and after about 1 minute says "I just ordered my meal when I got your message".  I figured OK don't say anything else.  LOL.  I suppose a little humble pie is good once in a while.  She dprooped me and jake off and headed back to the Baby shower.

Best part of all this is that I probably could have placed something between the tube and pinhole to keep it from blowing out again or I could have put the front tube in the back tire and hand-filled the front and rode home slowely.  Great thoughts afterwords.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  I am doing a 30m bike, 7m run brick on Saturday and a Lake Erie swim on Sunday (hopefully).

Take Care

Tom

@ Tom...sorry its late but congrats on your race!  Great job!

@ Nole...how is baby?  We need pictures!

Hope everyone is doing ok, I'm still putzing around here and there....usually I swim after a session with the personal trainer from hell just so the cool water can start the healing process.  Which means its short, easy, and slow swimming!   I've never really done weights or anything and this chick makes places on me hurt that have never hurt before!  Its kinda fun though.

Every spin class I make and live through is a major victory.

Hey guys!  I've been taking a few days off work lately and not at my computer as much!

Tom, re: flat... if that happens again, place a dollar bill or power bar wrapper, or something of the like between the tube and the tire to prevent the tube from passing through.  It works great!  I got my 1st flat in a long time on Friday afternoon, was able to change the tire fairly quickly for me, about 10 min, and was able to get the tire back on without a pinch flat. I suck at changing flats!

My training is going very well, I'm in the home stretch and I feel like I am ready, I better be damnit!  I've exceeded my training volume by 10% over the plan I'm on. I've logged 7 rides over 50 miles and 6 runs over 10.  I have also taken a more agressive approach to rest and recovery taking 6 full rest days in August while posting my greatest total volume for a single month ever.  Bottom line is I'm tired, trained and ready for this race!  I've been a slave to a training plan since mid February and am looking forward to doing workouts i want to do, not have to do!  My family is also looking forward to spending more time with me! and I vow not to set my alarm for 5am for a long time!

Robin, I'll have to read that article, I'll need it for the off season!

Glad to see everyone is still checking in!

-Brian

Thanks Guys!  I am ready!  I am taking taper week very easy and even enjoyed a Bagel this morning!   I picked up my race packet yesterday and the butterflies get stronger every day!  I am excited and nervous, yet still confident.  Weather will be in the upper 60's and looking like overcast, so thankfully heat will not be an issue.

Looking forward to writing up my race report!  Thanks again for checking in and the well wishes!

Thanks All!  Resting well today!
Race Report is up.  I took my time with this one, so it is pretty long!

So my question now is, What do I do now?  I need a sheet of paper to tell me what to do every day!  I feel lost already!

No SBR this week, I may hit the weights later this week depending on how I feel.

Tom, are you ready for Augusta this weekend?
