joseph-63 - 2008-12-20 7:00 PM Had another 5k race in Fort Hood TX today. Did very well despite today that i felt sluggish. Ran a PB 26:05. It was a little tricky today for the fact that the roads were wet, everyone slowed up a bit when going down hill. Overall the race was great lots of participants. Feeling very sore have my lower right leg wrapped up now. I need to lighten up on the running and let my leg fully recover. I'll just be putting in more training time on my swimming and cycling. Have to also get ready to do a half marathon in the beginning of the year so some rest from the pounding of the asphalt will suit me just fine.

Congrats on the PB.  Man, you are a 5K runnin' machine!  Good for you!

Merry Christmas to everyone from me too.

It has been an awesome year and I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone; the last month or so has also been really cool with an injection of life to our group with all of our new recruits.

I also really appreciate everyone's support and want to say a big THANKS.

Here's to 2009 and kicking some serious triathlon butt

Health, Happiness and Peace to you all xx

I also want to thank everyone for their help and inspiration. My last quarter of the year was great, got my competitive spirits back. I'm looking forward to the new year. I have much to prove to myself. I definetly going to stay totally focused of what i started, and i know as we all do that during the holidays it's very easy to get sidetracked but the way i see it we're only human and hey we're entitled. So for the whole group and your families please have a very merry christmas and a very prosperous new year.

I seem to have fallen prey to all the holiday trappings this week and have missed a few peaches. I still feel good about this whole thing and this month has been terrific for my excersize plan. But for a few recitals and shopping adventures I would have been peached the whole month. A big thank you to everyone for all the inspires and encouragements, and a very merry christmas to you and yours !

Congratulations on the better flip turns, James.

I hope everyone had an awesome Christmas.  I can say that thanks to the kindness of family, in particular my husband, I'll be going out shopping for a road bike this weekend.  It'll just be a down payment, but hopefully in the next couple months I can get her paid off.

So, who'd be up for the Ironman Challenge for January?  That's swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and running 26.2 miles.  I liked the Peach Challege, but I got sick on Day 1 and immediately lost the entire challenge before I could even start it.  So, I'd rather it be by miles or minutes for each event.  Even if you miss a couple days, you can make up for it later.

You can tweak the challenge to fit your needs.  For example, at the time of our last Ironman Challenge, I had no pool access, so my goal was 5 hours of strength training instead of 2.4 miles of swimming.  Also, if you have a run focus, you can pull a few of your bike miles down into your run miles.  The goal is to just get the 140 miles in somehow.

Who's with me?

Again, Merry Christmas!

Sure thing.  It will last through the month of January.  It's getting in 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking and 26.2 miles of running throughout the month.  Just log it in to your Training Log and you - and we - can see your January totals very easily.  You can also tweak it somewhat to adjust where you are, like if you have a swim focus, you can pull a couple miles off your bike and add it to your swim.  So, instead of biking 112 miles, you could bike 110 and swim 4.4.  Does that make sense?

Anymore questions?  I'm here.

Didn't do so well on the Peaches, but I want to give Ironman another shot in Jan.  Last time I was able to do the bike and run portion, but barely scratched the surface on the biking, so that's a really good goal for me for next month - I am in!

So sorry to hear your sis isn't doing well, Jose!  I hope you and your family is ok and together now - you and she will be in my thoughts!

Jose...you, your sis, and family will all be in our prayers.  Safe travels.

And believe it or not, I am up for the Jan challenge.  I am so ready to get back into it.  I am going to have to tweak it this time.  My pool has been closed and they don't know when they will reopen.  They said that the feds have a new regulation for the pool grates at the bottom that just went into effect...well, there was a mad rush for all pools across the country to get these new grates that the companies that are making them are now on backorder and they can't open the pool back up until they get the grates in place.  Kinda crazy.  Also I am doing a half marathon in the middle of Feb with my wife so that gives me about 6 weeks to train so Jan will be a run heavy month. ALSO, my bday is on the 31st of Dec and I asked my wife for an indoor bike trainer, so hopefully that is what I am getting.

Long story short...I will be focusing on running then biking the month of Jan and no swims.  My ulitmate goal for the month of running is 60mi, but I will need to take a look at it again and make sure that is doable.  I'll post my goals later once I crunch the numbers (and if I get the trainer!).  I've missed being on here, and I will be getting back at it very soon.  Fighting thru a small illness and minor injuries from work right now but hope to be good to go by Jan.

So, I went shopping yesterday for a bike and I found her.  I wasn't planning on buying a little above an entry level, but it was one of two '08 models they still had around, it was just my size, it had the bare minimum components I needed and it was a bike I'd been researching.  It was all out of a dream.  So, for the same price as an entry level '09, I got a better '08.

It's a Giant OCR1.  It has the Shimano 105 components and a carbon seat stay and carbon front forks.  I rode it yesterday during some pretty high winds and I just could not believe how fast I could still go with hardly much effort.  It was so light I coulda picked it up with just my index finger.  With regard to the bike I've been using, it's one of those "you've got to lift with your legs" events to get it in the SUV.

I'm so excited about getting her out on the road in the Spring, and about shaving some time off my races.  Thanks for listening, guys.
