gobluedds - 2009-03-05 8:19 PM Got in a short run (working on pacing for the race this weekend) and a short swim.  (got kicked out of the pool for the "senior swim lessons".  [begin rant] 6 grannies standing in the shallow end talking for an hour.  Sheesh. They wouldn't let me continue to swim in one of the other eight lanes in the pool cause I might splash them. They were in the freakin water! [end rant]

Oh wow, were they using the noodles?

I'm glad someone's having Spring-like weather.  We had a dusting of snow and cold spell come through overnight.  At least the sun was out today so the snow disappeared quickly.

I'm still dealing with stomach issues today.  My son was better though and that makes everything easier.  I'm hoping that tomorrow I can get either outside or to the Y and actually move.  I was so stiff last night.

As for the weekend, not much going on here.  Hubby's working some in the AM and then has the night shift on Saturday.  The fun part will be a fancy doctor dinner Sunday night.  Not necessarily fun being around a bunch doctors and their spouses but fun 'cause we get a babysitter and a night out on someone else's tab.

Enjoy your good weather and get outside if you can!

Today is going to be a "rest" day. Preparation for tomorrow's "big" race.  Also doing some clothes shopping.  YAY!  Since starting training about 6 months ago I've lost some weight and now nothing fits me anymore.  Had to put on a suit yesterday for a meeting at work and got a couple of comments about wearing my dad's clothes.  Guess it's time to shop.Undecided

Today was supposed to be a race day simulation with a ride/run brick.  I think the 3 days of rest, even though they were unintentional, were good for me.  It actually felt good, during and after.  During the run I was even able to hold a faster pace for 9 minutes.  Gives me confidence that I'll survive race day.

And speaking of race day, there's something I'm starting to freak out about...Transitions?  I'm not sure where to start with the questions.  Anybody have general advice & suggestions?  Thanks.

Nice that it sounds like you are getting faster.  Keep up the good work there. I'll be "practicing" transitions tomorrow "for real"  I'll let you know how I do, what works etc.

Lara ~ how are you and your son feeling?

Scott ~ good luck tomorrow (although by the time you read this your race will probably be over.)

As for my, I am happy to say that not only did I not drown today, I had a really good time.  That is with the exception of the 3 times I literally had someone swim over top of me.  Luckily I'd read, heard, and been forewarned of these things happening so it wasn't a big deal!

OK,  my first official Triathlon is over. All in all it was a great experience.

The venue was very small, but the people who organized it and ran it did a great job. I expect that this being the first time for this event was the reason that there were so few participants.  That being said, I competed in the largest age group and won it!  woohoo!Laughing

Placed second overall.  Very happy with that.  Now I know what I need to focus on for the next race. Definitely the running.  The guy who ended up beating me did it totally on the run. (He was running at sub 6 minute miles.)

Can't wait for the next one.

I am here!  We had a tornado yesterday, it tore up parts of town.  No one was injured, which amazes me.  My new roof held up admirably!

Hoping to get a trainer ride in tonight, but have running club board meeting right after work so it's contingent on how late that runs.

Do you run while you meet?    Because that would be very appropriate

I wish we did, it would probably make the meetings a lot shorter!

Good to hear all is well at your house.  Those tornadoes are pretty scary things.

I remember tornado drills as a kid.  Any natural disaster type thing is scary.  My first 2 earthquakes (in Seattle) freaked me out.   I can still see the bikes hanging from the ceiling at the bike shop swaying back & forth.  And me trying to find a spot that had nothing overhead.  Don't want to repeat that.  But after living in Southern California, earthquakes can be fun.....at least the little commonplace ones.

Well, it's cold and a few snowflakes were flying around today.  So we went skiing.  We had fun.  My son skied on his own, no leash.  I'm so proud.  He's very cute as he sings down the slopes or pretends he's a race car.  He's not always a PITA sometimes he's very lovable.  Like right now he's sitting next to me with a string pretending to catch things like sharks, crabs, wolves and such.  But I guess the crab bit me so now he has to go back in the water.  Such an imagination.

My legs are a bit tired but I'm gonna try and get on the trainer in a little bit.

You know there are some days you just don't feel like training.  That's today for me.  I just wasn't into it.  Especially after having to make a run to the pediatrician for a rash on my son.  But I did it and actually did rather well.  Nothing fast, just a slow & easy run.  I was pleased that my HR didn't go over 160, somewhat amazed really.  I can't say I've had that happen on a run yet.  But I think it helps that I'm rested & healthy this week.

How's everyone else feeling today?

Michelle, awesome biathlon.  How was the transition?  Very curious.

Thank you!  To be honest, there really isn't a lot to tell especially since it was run to swim.  However, I was initially told to carry my cap and goggles which I pretty much thought "yeah right ~ no way in hell."  So I ended up leaving them on the base of a cone with some other guys stuff just so I knew where to go.  Funny thing is, my actual transition is pretty much a blur (i.e. I don't remember grabbing or putting on my stuff) since I was too busy talking to myself saying over and over "it's ok...I can do this!"  I was so nervous about my swim that as soon as I hit the transition, I started walking and just kept repeating that to myself!
Sorry I couldn't be of some help!

That's a scary visual. We actually had a pretty good earthquake right here in central Illinois last year. As animals so often do, my cats sensed it first and bolted off the bed and ran in to the kitchen.  Kept hearing a soft tapping noise, like someone was gently knocking on the door.  It was the leaf to my kitchen table rocking back and forth.

Good job getting out and running, especially when you're not feelin' it. Those are the most satisfying workouts.

Hi All!  I can't believe how quiet we are all being ~ WAKE UP!!

Today I am planning my first ever run with Sam in her stroller.  Boy do I hope it goes well as my hubby will be out of town for a few weeks so this would help immensely if she actually enjoyed (I'll even take tolerate) it!

Then when hubby gets home from work, it's off to the pool I go!
