Morning...my Tanita scale arrived yesterday! jumped on it after dinner to set it up and was 'pleasantly' surprised...of course with food in the belly my weight was up a bit. I expected to be at 180lbs and about 20% body fat. (not sure why I thought that but I did)

Turns out I did multiple tests and it came out to 185lbs and 16% bf! (water % at 55%...right where it needs to be)

Weighed myself this morning right out of bed before w/out at 5 AM and it was 181lbs and 18% BF, but water % dropped to 54%, which they said it would. And with a lower water % they said BF could fluctuate.

Overall, I'm very happy. I'll probably weigh myself regularly before dinner right after I get home so I can get some consistency.

If anyone is interested here is where I purchased the scale: $60. not bad. (and they have more expensive models...)

Did body pump (low weights, high reps) class for 60 minutes and then did an EZ run for 30.

Have a great weekend! Off to ski tomorrow with the kids.

I usually run with a fanny pack that has a zipper pouch for gels and such and a holder for a single bike size bottle 16 to 20 oz.   I just picked up a Camelbak Rouge 70 oz last week since Im starting to run longer distances and planning a route that passes a water stop is not always easy. This race is well supported.

Come to Texas and run one with me brother, we got plenty of Trail runs, anything you want form flat dirt with lots of tree roots to rocky hills and sticker bushes.   Oh and 90 degree heat with 80% humidity LOL!!

The belt I use is like this

Be careful - I might take you up on that.

Last time I was in Tejas I was scooting across the panhandle from Texarcana to New Mexico.  Just making time in a big empty space filled with jack-pumps and rattlesnakes.  It was over 100, but I couldn't really tell because I was in full motorcycle gear so everything was hot.  Great trip - hustled to Carlsbad Caverns and then took a slow ride up to Mount Rushmore.  Then hustled home (and lost my clutch on the way.)

Yea panhandle is hot & dry.  I was @ carlsbad caverns in 2007, amazing place.  You ride a Harley or a Gold Wing?

Anyway if you see a trail race in the Houston, Austin, San antonio area you wanna do then come on down!!!

Quick check in, caught up on the forum.  Lot of good info on the meals.  I won't go into what I have eaten in the last couple of weeks as I was in training classes and the brought in catered meals....good food but not the healthest.

Long week as I was in training I find out my brother was flown in to the hospital because if a heart attack, they did a stent and his heart is fine but now they are having problems getting his platelet level back up.  So Thurseday did the 8.5 hour drive from the class to get my Mom and take her down to the hospital and spent several hours with him.  He should be fine if  they get his platelet level back to somewhere close to normal.  So I came home today.

Updated my training log. I will still be doing the dualathon next Sunday unless my brother has a set back.
Finish = win for me so that is the only real goal with it.  Thinking I might ride my Trek commuter in this as I have had almost zero time to ride my new bike with the way the weather has been when I am home.

Well, work got the best of me yesterday...no workout for 2 days. Gotten past the well rested stage & now feel like a slob!

Semi-working this weekend, which makes it hard to schedule workouts. Hopefully will get my Spin class in this morning & long run tomorrow. Time will tell!

I have a "belt" similar to this, but the water bottle is vertical. Sorta sticks into my back. I suspect yours, which seems angulated at a 45deg lie is much better. Been thinking about replacing mine, as mine is a pain in the butt, back really

Right now I ride a '99 BMW K1200LT - got it for a steal in '04 with only 3,000 miles on it.  Next bike will either be a Harley bagger or, more likely, a Ural Patrol.  Then again, there's always a chance I'll put another airhead in the garage.

Nice workouts today.  Got a decent run in, later than I wanted to, but the extra 3 hours of sleep really helped.  Was relaxed through most of the run.  It felt really good to be outside where it was a warm 35F!

Swim:  Hit a new non-stop record, 2100 meters at a 2:10 average.  Did 300 more and stopped mostly out of boredom and I was running out of time.  Just cranked out the 2100 slow and steady.  hit the lap button on my watch every 100 m.   Its funny - once I got into a groove and stopped worrying about time and distance and just relaxed and thought about my stroke, I was able to just keep going.

Tomorrow morning I'm up and out early for a 15 miler!  Wish me luck.

5k race report

Well guys me, my son & my nephew did the race this morning my wife was the driver.  My son's race was first and he had fun running his mile we picked him up at the last of the streatch and ran it in to finish with him.  He got his finisher ribbon and set off in search of free food & prizes.

They called us to the start line for the 5k start & by the time my Nephew and I finished my son was aready loaded up with stickers & free frisbees and coozies and such.

I'm sorry to tell you guys I was unable to run the 5k in 30 minuits............................But I was able to run it in 29:01 :-) .  So, I was already happy to have finished under the 30 minuit mark and was totaly shocked when I found out I had also won 2nd place in my age group....  OH yea I got to go up and get a medal and have my picture taken with the Chick-fil-a cows LOL!! Chick-fil-a was one of the race sponsors so they had the cows there. My nephew and me ran together until the final 100 yards and he sprinted on ahead of me It was great to have him run the race with me and finish together.

I got an apple and a yogart & granola mix also fresh from Chidk-fil-a MMMMM that was good.  Then over to the sports Medical building for our free leg massage. Hey if its free its for me!!!

This was lots of fun & a great time spent with my wife, son and nephew.  Exceeding my performance expectations was just a bonus.

You guys have a great weekend.

The Du is 3.5 mile run 21 mile bike and 2.7 mile run.  First event ever.  So just looking to finish.

Update on my Brother they are going to let him go home as his platelet level is starting to come back up.

Very good swim Bruce, gratz!

Has any of you tried running with a camelbak?  Just curious about what kind of issues you have running with them.  Also what issues do you have if used on long rides.  I have one somewhere I use to use when hiking.

Oh I was planning on running today but I just couldn't get motivated to go to the rec center (it is snowing again) so In a bit I am going to do a few miles on the mountain bike I have hooked up to the trainer.

The guy at the bike shop suggested not hooking my new bike to the trainer as it is hard on them, anyone else hear anything about that?

Didn't quite make my 15 miles this morning - stopped at 13.  I was beat and it I would have tired to get to 15 it would have probably been more like 16.  I'm wiped out right now and I've been back for over two hours.  I have to get myself some more gels - I did this run without anything.  9 or 10 miles is my limit for "unsupported" runs.

The weather was great though - 38-40F and nice and sunny.  The roads are clearing up nicely too.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.

awesome job sawfish! Your boy is a cutie by the way!!

Unfortunately had a rough week at work and had some friends come down this weekend so I didn't have workouts fri. or sat. I should be getting things back together this week. Went on my first outdoor run today, did pretty well till I hit a street that wasn't plowed. It's a little rough around here since I'm surrounded by highways and the ghetto, my route options are a little limited. I did find a park that has a great 3.85 mile loop but they haven't plowed it so I guess I'll just have to wait till it's clear!

Still a good run.. 9 or 10 miles unsuported about 6 is my limit and I start getting hungy and if I dont get a a GU or some sports drink carbs in me I'll bonk shortly after the hunger sets in .

I know i'll have to start experementing with food beyond gels as I continue to run longer distances.

I'm thinking the Cliff Bar minis or PB&J sandwhich might be good or so I have read.  I was laughing after reading a report that decribed a trail ultra as a eating contest with well stocked buffets and lots of exercize between meals.

Weather is improving.  This morning's run was above freezing, almost sunny & still.   Quite nice, really.  Hoping spring is coming.

Was looking at your pics thinking, "gonna have wait 6 weeks before running in shorts".  that will be during my 12 days R&R in Florida!   Nevertheless, I do see signs that spring is coming!
