russrisher - 2012-01-08 5:59 PMGot 5 miles in today in a light rain- wearing shorts. Awesome weather in january.

Glad everyone had a nice day. My training plan is set to start tomorrow. It's so tough to get out each day with the baby, but gotta try to make it happen.
Nice! Yes, it isn't easy to get out but once it's a habit it becomes easier.

Wesley12 - 2012-01-08 7:57 PM My condolences go out to Carla and Ken.  Better luck next year.  I think it all will come down to the the winner of the Saints/Packers anyway. I hope everyone's training is going well.

x2 - though the broncos are my favorite team (except for Tebow - don't like him).  I was sure the Steelers were going to trounce them!

Good Afternoon Everyone....I'm still here.  My back is just now starting to feel better.  The only pain I have is when getting up from sitting or laying down.  My neck feels like it has to crack at all times but will not.  I am guessing that I did something more to it than I originally thought.  I got out for a 5 mile walk yesterday but woke up pretty sore.  Very frustrated.  I really....I mean REALLY, do not want to have to go the DR. for this thing.  I am still planning on starting my swim lessons on Tuesday evening but may try a run tomorrow.   It's been great reading everyone's posts..keeping me motivated.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

PM

It sounds like you hurt it more than you thought for sure. The swimming might actually help it. Good luck!

Hi everybody... Well, today was supposed to be my "rest day." Hah.

I spent five hours perched on the side of a hill installing support beams to keep our backyard fence from toppling over! I'm not exactly sure how to classify that on my training log, I'm really burnt right now. At least the weather (low 70s) was nice. :-)

Sounds like I missed some good football games. Hope everybody enjoyed their weekend.

Yow. Doesn't sound too comfortable. Swimming always makes my neck & back feel better...at least while I'm in the water

Maybe you should look under "fence building".  My favorites are rodeo and geocaching. I wonder if those have ever been used?

"Fence Building" == I like it! Thanks. :-) You got me curious about geocaching. I'd never heard of it before, so I googled it... it actually sounds kind of cool. I guess I'm a little behind the times...

But yes, DEATH and DESTRUCTION to all sinus crap. I am so looking forward to oral surgery Thursday to eradicate what's left of mine.

Are you having sinus surgery? About a year-and-a-half ago, I had a combined Uvalapalatopharyngoplasty / Septoplasty / Tonsillectomy. It completely changed everything for me. I didn't realize what it was like to actually breathe! Best of luck!

We are Giants fans here, so happy on that front! I can definitely identify with the back stuff. Mine is still locked up every morning. I did swim 500 this morning and it feels a little better. My plan is to swim every morning before work and then lift, run, bike, or row after.  Has anyone tried deep water running? I see old ladies doing it when I am swimming. Not sure how much they get out of it, but I wonder if you were pushing yourself how it would go?

Thanks. Breathing is definitely not over-rated! Nothing so complicated, luckily - had root canal few months ago, and apparently roots of the tooth are abscessed and pushing into my sinuses or something like that... had the new crown drilled off week before Christmas, then of course everyone scattered for the holidays. Just tired of having had sinus headaches for months - messing with my training!

I had a lot of runners recommend it to me when I sprained my ankle last year, but was still too much motion for it even w/ a waterproof air cast. Also hear it's about as exciting as watching paint dry, so good water-proof tunes help (I have Finis swimp3 & love it).

I have never tried aquajogging myself, but 2 stories.  First there is a local fast runner, he came in 3rd in the Flower City HM last spring, that aquajogs in the pool I swim in.  He is usually there the day after hard races doing a recovery type run.  He doesn't use any type of flotation just goes back and forth.  He is usually there over an hour.

The other is a friend that had some injuries (I think it was an ankle issue) that made high mileage training a challenge.  She supplemented with aquajogging and finished IM Lake Placid and a marathon in the same season.

I think the resistance of the water makes the effort a little tougher, but the lack of the pounding makes it safer on the joints.

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know I'm still here...long first week back from winter break. I was hoping to have a relaxing first week back and keep up with my running and add in 1-2 trainer rides, alas it was not in the cards. My 1st grader can home from school with head lice and immediately gave it to my 2 yr old Brushing out everyone's hair and treating the bedding/house was exhausting. Then my 4 yr old's babysitter (he goes to half day pre-K) told me she will be moving in a couple weeks (unexpected) and can no longer watch him after school. So now, I'm scrambling for a child care situation for him.

On a good note, I am going running tomorrow morning with a friend, so hopefully last week was a fluke and next week with be more relaxing and productive training wise.

Ugh, I've been there.  Those little buggers are so nasty.  Sorry you had to go through that.

What a double whammy with your childcare provider.  Hope something turns up soon, it always does.

Local bike shop hooked me up with a nice Trek demo so I can do the group ride this morning.  About 45 miles of riding.  Looks like it is going to start off a little cool, 38 degrees or so but be in the 60's by the time we finish.

Anyone else training or working out today?  Looks like the weather is fairly nice across the country!

Not too bad in Central Illinois - got in an EZ 9 mile run this morning.  It felt good after being sick.  DIE SINUS INFECTION DIE!

You know I was rolling my eyes at the "EZ 9 mile run" - that's definitely still an oxymoron for me!! Still, really impressed that you can go that distance still not feeling 100%.

But yes, DEATH and DESTRUCTION to all sinus crap. I am so looking forward to oral surgery Thursday to eradicate what's left of mine.

OMG, even oral surgery is preferable to a sinus infection!  That's just not right

Glad everyone is having great weather! I however woke up with 8 inches of new snow and its still coming down also in the single digits again. only color outside is white - would take a picture but it would just be white!

Going to take another day off as my foot was hurting yesterday - I hope everyone has a great Sunday - GO BRONCOS!

decided to add a photo after all - this is our back deck (which I can't actually get onto b/c the back door is frozen shut). We cleared it off last weekend!

Robin, that's gorgeous!  Is that you swimming in your new avatar?

I'm using the Netio Pot still and haven't had a cold or infection in 3 years since I started.  There are reports out of Louisiana that two people died of an amobea they supposedly got by using tap water for their rinse.  CDC is still investigating.  (I don't believe it.  Two deaths in a few months form the same state form Neto Pots which have been around for years and years with no other reports?)  I'm sticking with Neti.

I second that.  The Neti pot or the Sinu-Rinse are both awesome.  I use them both at the first sign of sinus trouble.  The rinsing loosens up any "stuff" that gets stuck up there.  It is the most wonderful feeling afterwards.  Sorry if TMI

TMI would be a youtube video on the process. i prefer the squirt bottle myself, though my husband would rather suffer thru his allergy stuffiness than risk dripping watery snot on his beard...

I do it in the shower.  I also don't mean to diminish the concern.  But really, hard to imagine why two so close together form the same state - where the amoeba lives in warm water lakes and rivers.  If it's in tap water, you would run the risk every time you bathed that you would splash water up your nose and get the little critter.  Weird.  Use sterile or boiled water if you are worried.  I don't, but I do make sure it is clean every time.  And TMI, I blow my sinuses out hard after every use.  But truly, no illnesses at all as a result.   Even when everyone complained during IM or being sick before during and after.  Not me.  Neti is also great for after open water swims.
