Swim workout this morning:

400 warm up
Main Set:
300 on 1:00 rest
2x150 on :45 rest
4x75 on :20 rest
100 loosen
4x100 kick on :20 rest
200 EZ Cool Down

Need to start adding strength to my training plan.    I've been going to the gym since I was 14 for swimming... absolutely HATE the gym.  Wish I could find a partner to do medicine ball with.

Bitchin workout Mel!  Maybe you could set up a workout in your barn ala Rocky IV

Yesterday I had another crying mom on the phone...her youngest was leaving for college and she was terribly upset.  Not so much that she didn't want him to go but she just didn't know what she was going to do.  I shared with her that I started doing triathlons....we talked  for over half an hour.  By the end of the conversation she was so excited to start something new; coming from a swim back ground she thought doing triathlons would be great.  She had lots of questions especially about starting at her age and being over weight.

She called again today to tell me there was an event at REI and two booths with tri info.  She had another tri encounter and felt it was a sign.  She had more questions but she was so excited and wanted to thank me for sharing my story with her.  She seemed much happier with a new idea for her life forming in her mind.  Who'da thunk I could make such a difference with my experience...pretty cool.

I started with this group at the beginning of Jan. weighing 203.  I'm now down to 185.9!  I just took 1.5 minutes off of an 8.25 mile run.  I'm over a month ahead of where I was last year going into the same race.  Feeling pretty good right about now.

That's great - in terms of both weight and speed.  How much more do you want to lose?  Any goals in regards to speed?

Keep it up!

The Tri (my second) will take place the second week of May - so I have about 93 days to train. I'm going to do the sprint and then I have signed up for an Oly in July.

My kid is at home sick so I've spent the morning reviewing my yearly goals.  I just found a Century ride that is sponsored by Harpoon that ends at the brewery (Thor - pretty good bet they wouldn't run out!) - but its 4 hours away... I'm gonna sign up if I don't find another ride that combines biking and beer.

First tri is April 15th, beach start, ocean swim, bike and run on A1A.  (not registered yet, still looking for the registration fee)

I'm considering signing up for a 5k March 24 to see where I stand with the running.

I'm 5'6" and am thinking 155-165 for goal weight.  I am training to run marathon in 3:30 or below. (5th marathon, previous best was 3:35, 1st)  That's 8:00/mile pace.  Eventually (Next year) I'd like to go between 3:00-3:15 for marathon to qualify for big race.  Stand alone marathon's vs. tri marathon's are vastly different in time, so IDK on ironman time.

Its amazing how train affects the BP and cholesterol.  The thought of taking one less med is exciting.  I saw an endocrinologist for the first time on Tuesday.  My BP was 100/60, way low, especially for me and he wants me to stop my BP immediately!  I am a little nervous though because this doc did not seem to believe me when I told him I was 70lbs heavier and my BP was so high at one point they wanted to put me in the hospital.  He said I was not his typical patient!

Like I have said before, since starting my training two years ago, I have not lost a pound!  But there have been so many other positive changes mentally, physically and emotionally that it has all been worth it!

The race is on May 13 and it will be in Hopkinton MA - about 5 miles from my house.  It's so close I'm actually considering biking there and back...

As far as ending a race with a beer in hand... I exercise to drink beer so riding in a race that finishes at a brewery just makes sense.  You must know - how good was that beer when you finished your HM?

Stepped out of my little box way early this morning.  I was on the road at 5:10am and headed to work.  I used the pool at the University instead of my safe pool on base and did my swim.  Ran out of time to complete all 20 x 75s but had a descent training session.  Headed back to the gym here at work for my long run and then headed home...should be home by 10:00pm...the drive and OT make it hard but it is doable!

David-  I have yet to imbibe after any of my events yet, but do believe after I meet my goal in May, I will enjoy a malted style barley pop.

2 Deschutes mirror pond pale ale's tonight to celebrate the 185 milestone.

Cheers
