It was baltic!!

That's great having that experience along side you to help with your training, its such a steep learning curve at the beginning.

Good News!!

Finally got up to see the physio this evening to check out my self diagnosis torn calf, luckily turns out I'm no sports therapist.

The pop was a spasm and the tear was a strain, hopped into the place and WALKED out.

Still a bit of work to do but I'll be fighting fit in no time, and another valuable lesson learnt, stay away from google when you get injured and head straight to the physio!!

Thats great news Robbie.

Robbie

Very good news indeed.  I've been lucky thus far in avoiding serious injury.  Hope I don't ever get anything too serious.  I've had some issues in the past, bad knee from football, bad back from football.  But through my chiropractic care and generally trying to take care of myself I haven't had any major injury setbacks except for running a HM with virtually no training.  Not smart at all!!!

But there is a long way between now and IMTX 2014.  Thats the goal I've decided to set for myself.  Two years of basebuilding, training, research, and testing myself along the way.

Good Morning to All!

Switched up the plans a bit yesterday and did 1,800 in the pool and a 4 mile run. The swim felt great. Probably the most comfortable and smooth thus far.

It was quite windy (and frustrating) yesterday for the run, but I can't complain too much. I was still OUTSIDE in March with SHORTS on! Just put in some base mileage for the time being. Looks like my race specific training starts next week.

Long run and long bike this weekend. What's on tap for everyone else?

Hey Foggy.  Gotta love shorts in March for us northerners.

Hows the Aloe Vera juice treating you?  I've heard some good things about it but haven't had personal experience.  Any Gastro issues with it?

Anyways, super busy weekend.  TT tomorrow morning that as it approaches, I'm not feeling too confident about beating last years time as I haven't really been putting in any hard efforts on the bike, just looking to get in base miles. So we will see how that goes.  Sunday, a couple of my riding buddies are talking about getting in a century.  Depending on how I feel after the race tomorrow, I may join.  My scheduled long ride this weekend is 3 hours and I figure if I feel good I may as well add the extra time in the saddle.  Michigan Mountain Mayhem is just over 2 months away and it's gonna be a brutal two days in the saddle.

On a different note. My new roadie came in to my LBS yesterday and fitting is scheduled for Tuesday.  Super pumped about that.

Whats up gang? Been crazy busy lately doing some much needed home improvements and such and haven't been around or training as much as needed but summer has already landed here and the long weekend rides have already produced some interesting sun burn marks (always make sure your tri top is pulled down over your tri shorts in aero).  I hope everyones training is going well.

Foggy, what kind of new roadie did you get and where are the pics?

Sorry for the lack of info. The new bike is a Felt AR4.  It's still at the LBS but I pick her up on Tuesday.  Pictures to follow.

Rain ruined my normal Wed. night longer run.  Had to work it in during girls soccer practice yesterday.  5 miles in the 4:00 mid-day south Texas heat had me drenched.  I ran slower than normal, which was okay with me in that heat, because I had one of the mom's talked into running with me and I didn't want to grind her down on only her second time out.

3.5 mile tonight, 6 Miles tomorrow morning, and 25 mile ride on Sunday.  Got two guys going with me who are just starting to get out on the bike.  So Sunday should be a lesson in patience and pacing.

Josh don't beat yourself before you get to the starting line you'll be grand!! The Felt AR4 is a cracking look bike all the best with her.

Went for my second session on the legs this evening and all I can say is OOOoowwwww, he went in deep this evening sore as fook really tender afterwards but I'm in really good hands and now well iced up.

I do have a grade 1 strain in the top belly of my calf and its the popliteus which is inflammed, more likely one caused the other.

The positive is that he reckons I should be good in about 10 days, will be back at the start of the week so not even swimming permitted .

Spending time on the foam roller  and tennis ball around the glutes, hammies, ITB and although I'm in rest mode I can really feel the legs losening up.

Diet is great and I'm sitting spot on my target weight, just need to be patient now and enjoy hte progression on the thread.

Canny find a copy of the DVD 'Athlete's guide to Yoga', does anyone know if the book is a good alternative.

Yay Robbie! I've been struggling with some wrist/forearm/hand pain over the last 3 months of weight training and I"m actually looking forward to my transition to tri-training this weekend in the hopes that my arms will appreciate the much needed break. The problems still pop up while swimming though, so I probably need to get evaluated. I also have a history of chronic back problems, which luckily are keeping a low profile so far this year.

Foggy: Aloe Vera JUICE?! Vas is das??? Where do you get this magic juice? :D My mom has been pushing herself training, told me she was nursing some mild shinsplints so I yelled at her to REST. She begrudgingly took a couple days off and is not feeling them anymore, but says her legs are just tired all the time. I told her to rest more, but we could probably both benefit from AV juice from the sound of it.

This weekend: I'm in, gang! Finally! Sunday marks day 1 of my 5-week crash course until the first Sprint of the season. I have a short swim scheduled in the morning, and then a 10-mile training ride with my new training buddies! Haven't been able to get the computer off my old bike yet - everything is off except the sensor that clips to the front spokes. I'm hoping to figure out how to remove it (without breaking it) tomorrow morning and get it on the new bike before Sunday's ride. Supposed to be beautiful weather! I will now start logging those workouts. Finished off my last weight training day yesterday. Benched 3 sets of 6 at 125#. Not bad considering I only started bench press 6 weeks ago. I'd like to get up to my bodyweight by this time next year so I plan to work in 1-2 easy strength training sessions per week from now until August when I go back to weight training. Hopefully I won't lose *too* much of my gains. :D I know the strength training sessions will be the first to go when I'm strapped for time though.

Robbie. I don't have any experience with the book but here is where I got my copy of the DVD.

QD.  After having read some reviews and hearing our fearless leaders feedback on Aloe Vera juice I picked some up this morning.  I found some at CVS.

Thanks Josh! Did you notice any of the bitter taste that Foggy mentions hearing about in cheaper brands? CVS is significantly closer to my house than TJ's.

No problem.

I personally didn't think it had too bad of a taste.  It does have a slight bitter taste but I didn't find it too terrible.  Lets put it this way, I would buy it again at CVS instead of spending more $ on it somewhere else.

Marsh: That is one impressive fish!!!

Started training today! Overshot my scheduled workouts just a tad, but so far I'm feeling really good. Workouts consisted of a 1200m swim and a 12 mile bike, (scheduled for 1100 & 10 miles) but when all was said & done I'd biked over 20 miles, plus gone for a 2 mile walk around the lakes thanks to the amazing weather!

Then I came home & iced my knees. :D

Marsh, NICE CATCH!

QD: good job on the training, keep it up!

Sunday did not start out on a good note.  The night before the family did 'Earth Hour' and shortly after decided to just go to bed.  Earth hour became Earth nite.  This was perfect since I wanted to wake up early and get my long slow distance run in first thing in the morning.  I ended up waking up 2 hours after my wake up time, and when I looked outside it was raining/hailing.  That started out my day bad and due to bad nutrition all week I felt very tired/lazy.

The day got better after spending it with my wife and son at a butterfly conservatory and playing some sports.

After my son went to sleep I was able to get my LSD run in.  I ran 17 kms....this is the longest I have ever run and I was happy with myself and my pace.  My half marathon is 5 weeks away and I think i'm right where I should be.  I'll proabably have 1 more longer run (around 19-20 km's) a couple weeks before the half marathon and then it'll be race day.  Cool

Marsh: Just icing to be safe - I have biked more in the past week than in the past 8 months combined, and with all the activity yesterday I was worried I'd be sore today. I'm not! But I'm *really* glad it's my Rest Day.
As for the fish...I'd hate to see your idea of a "big" catch! lol "River Monsters"!

2paz: Sounds like you had a challenging weekend, but hey, all's well that ends well. Congrats on your long run!

That's good to hear....

Here's a good fish from the yak, no more fish pics I promise!!

I was 3 stone heavier in this pic taken last March, just love the gains from our training regimes.

Marsh: OK, I now see why you didn't think as much of the first fish pic! That's insane! This coming from a guy who lives in the "land of 10,000 lakes" and only caught 1 keeper last season (granted I don't fish all that much, but no one else in my family caught anything we could keep either! My mom got a 19 or so inch Northern but we were in a wilderness reserve and they had to be over 20-something to keep)

Foggy: Dooooood, major bummer on the weekend workouts. :/ Gotta love the chiropractor though - hope it helps!
