Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 benttwice - 2012-05-22 4:57 PM Finished my first tri of the year (second ever) this past weekend - The Jekyll Island Turtle Crawl Sprint. I did much better than expected. I placed 29 out of 265 overall, and 3rd in my age group. I missed my name being called at the awards ceremony so I missed the podium moment! I was walking up from the beach with my wife and girls, and as we were approaching the stage my oldest daughter tells me to go get my medal. I laughed and said "very funny, sweatheart!". Then my wife asks did you really hear my name called - daughter thens starts to doubt herself, and says "well, it sounded like his name, but I'm not sure!" Didn't realize she we right until the next day looking at the results on the internet. Congratulations on your 3rd place finish that is awesome! You guys are putting me to shame as I am just glad to finish and here you are all rockin the races! Sorry that the swim was so rough. |

There were a few folks plucked out the water. Also, regretfully, someone passed away in the water. Reports are saying it was a 44 year old with cardiac arrest. Very sad and tragic! Race report is done. Take care, everyone! Being a cardiac survivor and doing triathlons, hearing this always sets me back a bit. But congrats nonetheless on your finish!
Way to rock it too, Monte! You will never forget the first one! And that is why I say I don't "compete", I "participate" -- I will never be a podium-finisher, but I definitely enjoy the journey. Edited by triplebypat 2012-05-23 10:59 AM |

Member 46 Richmond Hill | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Monte - Way to go! You should be very proud of yourself. To lose that much weight in such a short time, complete a triathlon, and crank out 19+ mph on the bike is awesome! Great recap of the day. I think we were "sharing the pain" not just during the sprint tri but on through the next couple of days! My legs were quite sore SUN and MON. Kathy - I found you on FB. Sent you the "friend request". No need to be too impressed with the 3rd place finish - I think most of the fast, experienced guys were doing the Oly distance that day. You will be the one putting me to shame in 3 months when you nail IM Louisville. An IM finish is still so far away for me. Have a good week, everyone. We are leaving tomorrow for Ohio for the Memorial Day Weekend. The training will suffer this week, so I'm calling it a "recovery" week. Hydration and nutrition will be key during this recovery period (i.e., beer, pizza, burgers, etc.). |

I am the same age as he was and have struggled with high blood pressure since my early 20's. I certainly understand how such news can be tough for you, in particular. All each of us can do though, is live our lives such that when God calls us home, He will be able to say "well done, my good and faithful servant." It's neat that you said you "definitely enjoy the journey." That is exactly what I was thinking to myself earlier today reflecting on this past weekend. As much as I enjoyed the event and having a good race (for me) - the true joy came from experiencing it with my family and spending the weekend hanging out at the beach with them. The triathlons are only an intermediate goal for the main objective of better health and fitness so that I can enjoy the journey of life with my family for years to come. |

Regular 72 Cincinnati | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Wow, Monte, so much to be proud of there. Congrats on the last six months. The race was something to be proud of, but I'm really impressed with your commitment to the effort, both physical and mental, that it took to get you there. Great race report, I loved reading it. You should savor this one for a long time. |

Expert 952 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Robert, I'm having a hard time finding you on FB, as well. My name is Lena Maximova Sutherland, if you want to look me up and shoot me a request ======= I need to apologize for not being here more. I've read all the posts, but been SO busy, it's been insane. My husband was traveling for work Mon-Fri for about 5-6 weeks, which is not bad in itself, but we were planning Lukas' 3rd bday party, and after drinking too much coffee (or too much running endorphins?) I decided i needed to repaint two rooms and a hallway... so being a single mom for those weeks, school activities, swimming lessons, plus tearing out the trim, tearing off wallpaper, mudding, sanding, painting, new trim, etc etc.. that's before planning a party for 60+ ppl with one of my gigantic cakes. oy. I had been going on 4-5 hrs of sleep for over a month, and I do NOT function well on that little sleep. It was not pretty, but I got it done. The party was last weekend, and we survived lol I'll be back with cake pics Because of all this, I missed SO much training, I had to do some soul searching about my HIM in Racine on July 15. I haven't registered, but invested myself into the REDO emotionally, so it was hard to decide to not do it... but, with only 8 weeks left, and at $275 a pop, I decided it was unwise to proceed.. Didn't think i'd find another HIM at this point and was getting used to the idea of just training for fun and to build my base, without the intestine-shaking pressure of the race of that caliber. Plus, I do have two marathons in the fall and this would allow me to really focus on running. And then I saw that Steelhead (Benton Arbor, MI) is on Aug 19, so I still have 13 weeks to train (plus the 4-5 weeks I did put in in the beginning)! ... and as nice as the thought of riding and swimming and running for fun is, I'm itching to do a HIM. So, I'm 95% sure I'm in. Let the madness begin. Again. |

Veteran 201 Long Island | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Goodness there are so many things I want to reply to but I can never remember who said what. Benttwice, awesome race. Loved what you said about doing our best here and then going home for eternity. "My son in whom I am well pleased" also comes to mind. I hope I am pleasing Him in all I do. Was it your race that had the death? So tragic. You just never know. Monte, what a race report. You had me in tears more than once. Can't wait for the June race!! You have accomplished amazing things and got all of us talking again!! Here's to you and your health!! Hopefully you have added years. Maria, welcome back!! Hope the bike is an easy fix and you get going again. Welcome to the east coast!! Cake girl!! Can't wait for the new cake pics! Sounds like your are making smart choices! You can only do so much but it is so awewsome to have a tough goal. I'm a little sad I'm not training for a HIM but I have a bunch of Olys and other great events. I hope to figure out some health issues, get stronger and faster hopefully, and I'm on again for next year. Fit, I always love your postings, thanks for the drink tips. I'm learning the Garmin slowly. Today, I accidentally went out on the bike setting!! Wondered what happened to my 4:1 beeps. Now I know. Made some adjustments, good practice for race day. If things go wrong, you just keep going till the finish. My first Oly is next week in CT. I'm so excited for taper week, I can't tell you. I have been pushing things with my work schedule and I need some rest!! A little (alot) nervous about the hill challenges but as with Bypass, I am a doer not a competitor. Will never be on a podium but I am out there doing it and loving it and encouraging everryone I can!! Suzie, miss our smile. Hope all is well. Hugs to all. |

Regular 72 Cincinnati | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Anyone racing this weekend? I'm just doing a 5k on Monday, but I'm looking forward to it since my wife and two son's will be running it too. It'll be my wife's first race in 26 years! She's been running for the last two months and is doing great. I'm hoping it's a good experience for her.I was hoping to do my first triathlon next weekend, but, unfortunately, I'll need to be working that day. Looks like my first will be the Ceaser Creek triathlon in July. Good luck to everyone racing (and training) this weekend. Stay cool.John |
