kaburns1214 - 2013-01-05 7:05 PMI want to pull together a list of everyone's races so we have group list.  Can everyone please PM me with all of your race dates so I can create a master list.
Do you want Tri related races only, or everything including 5k's and MTB races?

Everything that is important to you!

Very excited - it's a little warmer today (40's - 50's) so I'm going for a bike ride. Yippee! I have not been on my bike in months, this should be interesting.

I think this is just a fluke, but the last two nights I have slept like a rock! That never happens, I wake up numerous times during the night and am totally exhausted in the morning. Last two days I slept through the night.

I would totally do that 2.4 mile swim, if it were closer. I love a long distance stand alone swim event (Scott, you should try one, they are a lot of fun). The 5k swim I have done the last couple of years I think may be cancelled. I hope not, it was a great confidence booster for IM training.

Question on dried fruit - is all dried fruit as long as no added sugar ok? When it says sulfites I assume it's ok because the sulfites are not added???

Thanks for the recipes Scott.

Sulfites are preservatives added to foods, particularly dried fruit.

Many people develop sulfite sensitivity and it can exhibit itself in many forms, including various cardiovascular, pulmonary, dermatological, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Of special concern is sulfite sensitivity in asthmatics, as sulfites have been shown to cause asthma-related symptoms from mild wheezing to life-threatening asthmatic attacks. In cases of those who have developed an allergy to sulfites, consumption can cause an anaphylactic reaction.

Speaking of non Tri races, there is an open water 2.4 mile race in July called the Peaks to Portland. Any of the NE peeps wanna do it? I would consider it, but I am not sure if I could be ready for it. Might be good for all you IM folks. I could be your kayak spotter. Here is the link:

http://www.ymcaofsouthernmaine.org/p2p

Wait...... people swim when you don't get to bike and run afterwards.  Biking and running is like the carrot that gets me through swims.  It just doesn't compute for me.

We have really good beer and lobster

The water is Maine so cold (even in the summer).  Although I do like swim only races.

It's not bad with a wet suit.

Looks like the swim is the same weekend as IMLP.  I'll likely be in Lake Placid for the race (coaching and volunteering, not racing).

I get massages every other week -- deep tissue.  Its probably the most painful and most beneficial thing I do training wise.

With regard to form vs. endurance you may want to try a 200 / 800 swim test.

Warm up for about 200-400 yards.

1 x 200 ALL OUT (try to record the time for each 100 if possible)

3 minutes rest

1 x 800 ALL OUT (try to record the time for each 100 if possible)

Cool down for about 200-400 yards

If your pace for the 200 and 800 is similar it is likely not an endurance problem and is likely a form problem.  If the 200 pace is significantly faster than the 800 pace its likely an endurance problem and is is really significantly faster its likely an endurance and form issue. If you had video of you swimming I would be curious to see it.

Thanks, Kelly.  I'll give this a try.  I don't have any video of me, at least not yet, but maybe I can convince someone to make one.

With what you are talking about even a video of you taken from the pool deck would be useful.

Help:

My last two runs have been painful on the top of my right foot - shoe issue, left is fine, new shoes, same make, 2012 model. This has never happened with this shoe (Mizuno Wave Alchemy). I have to get new shoes before my race this weekend. I bought the shoes from Roadrunnersports and can return them, but I won't have new ones back in time before I head out.

So - I have to go to my local shoe place. I would appreciate any recommendations.

1 hr 35 min ZR trainer ride this morning. Still keeping the pace and HR low to make sure this nerve heals properly. Followed up with 3 egg omelet loaded with green pepper, cauliflower, mushrooms, , 1/2 avocado, spinach and a little salsa. Mmmmmm.

Do you have a an older pair that's already broken in?  I would go with an old pair before I would go with a new pair.

I do, but the last long run (12.3) I was in them, and they felt kaput. I think I got them in July - a month prior to B2B. So it sort of felt like I was over due

Unless the outer sole is falling off or there are massive holes, shoes don't really die.  You legs may have been shot, but he shoes are probably ok (I know the Wave Alchemys are motion control support shoes but the posting should be fine and while the cushioning may be compressed, its been slowly compressing over time).

Easy ride for 1:50 building to Z3 and ending at 2:30ish today.  Should have been right up my alley, but we got lost and the lead bike and her husband kept arguing about directions, etc., etc., etc.  Useful yet annoying ride.  Back to my boring out and back routes to keep my sanity.

Anyone have fun ideas for a wager between Kelly and I for Galveston?

Hey guys! First it is a rest day for me! Had a HM test and learned some valuable lessons from it! Must fuel better!

Also, I think it may have been Matt. I developed the same neck soreness and I was wrenching my head out of the water. Kelly hit it on the nail on how to fix. You may swallow a little water but just spit it out when you bring your head back down. It took a little to get used to but the pain went away. Bilateral is good to do as well. Practice makes perfect for that. It was awkward at first but I have gotten better over time.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Kelly hope testing this weekend was fun and went well .  I liked your yoga insights!

Jenn I am glad you may be feeling better with new diet... it can be a relief to get a diagnosis when you are feeling something is wrong... I've known other celiacs who feel a world better after diagnosis and elimination of gluten

I ran 10 miles today.  It was nice but a little bummed about how hard that felt! (still trying to fight my way back after a mostly off year)

I was thinking of you healthy eaters last night. I went to a new restaurant that was great and had some amazing choices: salad made of shredded brussel sprouts and avocado.  salad of kale, quinoa, dried blueberries and shiitake mushrooms,  platter of roasted vegetables and quinoa... super spices on all this... if in NYC check it out: it is called Comodo in the village

Norma the food you describe sounds wonderful!

Bike ride felt really tough. I guess that's what I get for being run focused for so long. My neck, wrists, triceps, and back hurt. Oh, and sitting on that saddle was no fun either. I couldn't wait to get off that dang thing.

We usually add on a 3 mile out and back, that has lots of mini goats. It's my favorite part of the ride. It's toward the end, and today I said screw the goats, we are not adding on mileage! I miss the little guys.

Is it weird to ask again for photos of everyone to know who the heck we are talking to. Can't really tell with avatars. Trying to figure out how to post one from iPad. Can't be that weird right? We've seen kelly in shrink wrap and the conversation on Scott's legs was interesting.
