Yeah, I was pretty happy with it, overall. I met up with Daremo at the start, with the plan to run with the 3:30 pace group for a while. Yeah, that didn't last too long; the start was slow, and we got irritated, so we sorta took off. Ended up staying on that pace for the first half, still felt pretty solid starting through the late-stage hills (miles 15-20). Our splits for that section were not far off our average pace at that point. At 20, I realized I had to do a 43 min 10K to hit the mark, decided I had to try, and took off. Overall, I think I did much better in terms of being greedy with the handouts on the course. I ate more on this than I have before. Also, I wore my training shoes, which I think helped in terms of my feet (I didn't get any blisters). No chafing, either, which surprised the hell outta me. Everything just sorta clicked together, and I put together a good race. I think the miles I've done have really helped in terms of managing the later parts of a race, too. Biggest fear now is that I peaked about 5-6 weeks too early. But time will tell. |
