Subject: RE: kaqphin (Super Cat's) Mentor group - CLOSED - Jeni and Britss FIRST TRIATHLONS this weekend!
Out4atime - 2008-03-10 1:26 PM

Won't know my official results until tuesday... but I finished!!!!Waited around ALL day for them to post them.  very annoying!

good day physically, bad day mentally- but all in all great!!! I know I blew my goal time of 1:45 away and I estimate I came in under 1:35.

On the swim I started out WAY WAY WAY to fast and kicked way to hard and blew up in the first 200m.  Let someone pass me.  drafted off him and fought away thoughts of quitting, how much this sucks, I feel ... oh man there are 2 more sports after this.  Remembered to use my arms more and passed the guy who passed me and finished fairly strong. Passed 2 people in transition so made up for the crappy swim there.  the bike I was around 41 minutes and was great- passed people, only got passed by crazy speedy guys.  And held on for the run despite a small shin cramp and probably pulled off negative splits.  ok off to dinner then to race report.

CONGRATULATIONS TRIATHLETE!!!! Sounds to me like you had a really AWESOME rave all up...

And FWIW - going out too hard in the beginning of the swim is really common, its adrenaline mixed with everyone else swimming too hard too...

Sounds to me like and awesome race and that you already know what to work on for the next one! FABULOUS!

CONGRATULATIONS TRIATHLETE JENI!

Thanks to all y'all on here for your support--seriously, I'm sure I can speak for Jeni and I both that this group on here especially, and so many on BT, have truly made this continuing journey that much better! Encouragement has meant so much!!

I'm off to bed--but I did post the race report, my first tri one! Still happy to be a triathlete! (especially now that I'm warm again!).

I'm having a bit of post-tri-depression about it being over- since this day has been on my mind for such a long time. (that's probably normal) I really want to see the split times and what my official final time is!!

Luckily I had a friend play paparazzi so there are TONS of pictures- just haven't seen them yet.  She was everywhere.  At the swim, at transition and on the run.  it was great cause I would see her and pick up my legs to look good for the pictures. So it was great motivation. Will post them as soon as I have them!!

Totally normal - I think it happens whenever a major goal is achieved... you focus on something for so long...

Chill out this week... train only if you want to, loosen up the nutrition some and just relax, recover and enjoy a bit of free time!

Then whats the next goal? finding something else after a mental timeout will help shake off the last feeling of 'the blues' and get you refocused

Congrats to the both of you!  And both have absolutely fast times!  I am so impressed!    Enjoy the hardware Britt!  I am sure there will be lots of that in your future.

Speaking of firsts, my step-daughter ran her 1st 5k on Saturday.  She and I ran it together and she did just a great job!  She is 9 years old and was so nervous, especially when she saw over 1,000 people lined up at the start.  She and I ran it in 44:23, which  I know is slow to most, but we are so proud of her to finish.  Below is a pic of her and I finishing the 5k.  We went into an all out sprint to finish!

I did a 1 mile run when I was that age and just about died...that was the beginning of my hating running...how awesome to do a 5K at that age!! That is really great and pumps me up!

Awesome job, Jeni!!! I can only dream of finishing in the top 1/3 of my AG, let alone at my very first tri. Reading the race reports from you and Britt definitely have me chomping at the bit to keep going so I can hopefully do my first tri this time next year.

Britt - speaking of race reports, what the heck is chip seal? That's a new term to me.

Dia - what a wonderful pic of you and your step-daughter! I didn't start running until high school, so that's awesome that she's done a 5k at her age. Good for her!

Lyssa - Awwww....thanks!

Yeah, I think we have her hooked.  She is already talking about wanting to go another one.  There is a kids triahtlon here in May that I think she wants to go as well.  We will see!

JENI!!! YOU ROCK! THAT IS SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME!! I AM SO THRILLED FOR YOU!

Mel- Chip Seal = the nasty rough road surface they are applying to roads these days so they aren't slick in rain, etc.  TX is doing too much of this...it's like big gravel/asphalt chunks cemented to the road with asphalt...nothing smooth about it! It was literally PAINFUL.  I think the top speed anyone went that day was maybe 21 mph--and that's with some fast dudes out there. I should've been around 18.5-19

Dia- Yay! You have encouraged a new triathlete/racer and with kids these days and all the problems they are facing with health/obesity, what a great thing to get her on the right track at the right age!!! I'll be racing that weekend, 30 MAR, at Galveston, the Lonestar 1/4 Iron (virtually an Oly).  It'll be an OWS in a bay there (so no major surf), a flat ride (thank God), and flat run.  So long as it doesn't rain and the wind isn't horrible, it should be a fast course--but it is the Gulf Coast, so wind and rain are possible!!

Oh I do have a 5K I'll probaby do (free on Ft. Hood) on the 22nd--but that's more a speed workout for Lonestar.

I really don't want to do work today...

Yay Jeni! Broke 1:30 on your first tri. Congrats!!!!!
Dia, I love that picture. Running with family is awesome!

My first tri of the season is Saturday and now my left calf is very tight and tender. I am worried. I don't want to do anything that will make this worse. I'm supposed to run tomorrow but have emailed my coach to see if I can bike instead. This has nothing to do with my previous injury. But I can't tell you how frustrated I am. I so want to improve my run and I'm tired of getting hurt every time I ramp up mileage. I'm going to get new shoes tomorrow to see if that helps any.

Thanks for the explanation, Britt! I never fail to learn something new here.

I'm not planning on doing a tri until early next year, but I do have a some 5k races coming up soon. I'll be doing the Carlsbad 5000 on April 6 and the Knott's Berry Farm Coaster Run 5k on April 13. I'm considering a couple more 5k races in June.

Oh, and I'll also be at the California Ironman on March 29, but only as a volunteer.

I love the running photo of you!!

finally got the splits.  I'm annoyed that our transition times are blended into the swim and run, but I'll get over it

Swim 17:56 5th/25
Bike 42:58 4th/25
Run 28:19 14th/25
Total: 1:29:11.0
But heck! turns out I was 5th in AG!!!

And that is a PR for my 5km run (but I also haven't timed myself in a while).
