Here are my goals for next week. I'm starting a little bit of a harder plan tomorrow. Was doing a 22 week sprint plan, switching to sprint-3x balanced-16 weeks. It's a little harder then the 22 week. We'll see if I can do it.

bike: 100 min
run: 48 min
swim: 60 min
yoga or pilates: 2 classes

Congrats to those that completed their goals this week and to those that didn't it sounds like you came pretty close and good job for at least getting out there! Anything is better than nothing.

Have a great week training!

My goals for this week are:

Swim 1500 Meters
Bike 60 min
run 2.5 hours
Yoga 40 min.
strenth 60 min.

Thanks for the boost this week... I feel really great about my progress. Of course the 60 min. sports massage today helped.

I just finished my swim 300 yds and a brick , again, with the bike 8.11 miles.
My bike coach backed out on the ride so I ended up just going to the gym. Today would have been great outside. We hit 50s today.

I got to the pool last night and they were closing early. So no swim Sat. that's why it ended up back to back.
I am beat. I wanted to stay home and sleep. But because of you guys I went. Early to bed tonight. Thank God Monday is a rest day.

Does anyone know any exercises for the rotater cuff? After I swim then go bike the right shoulder hurts. Not while I am swimming just while I am on the stationary bike. Any advice would be helpful.

Next week goals:

2x swim 350yds. Swim lessons start next week. Then I wont look like I am drowning.
2x walk/run 30 minutes each
1x bike 13 miles or multiple shorter
1x strenght training

Does anyone use Mace or carry it when they bike alone? I had a patient tell me I shouldn't ride alone on the bike paths and if I do I should carry Mace. He rides downtown on the bike paths I ride on the edge of town on the canals and next to the river on the bike paths. I stay away from downtown. Any thoughts on this??????

Hi Folks,

I hope I am not the cause of red bikini or white Borat suit wearing!

I officially had the flu and struggled with the basics of life last week. I did some walking today on my usual run route. It was a beautiful day here today (70s) I'm getting in the pool tomorrow and I'm going to repeat my plan from last week.

The pig show nearly killed me! Wayne's pig got really sick last Sunday and we weren't sure he was going to live, much less go to the show. He got well and actually got a 5th in his class of 15. Amazing. I spent most of the time in the car wrapped up in a blanket.

SO....I totally blew it last week in terms of sticking with my plan but it was better to rest than to end up in the hospital!

Well the best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray... Was hoping to get my 40-minute run and 40-minute swim in today, but my body had other plans.  Woke up with a head cold that hasn't gotten any better.  Guess all the cool, windy air yesterday on my bike ride was too much.

My nose was the athlete today -- it ran the whole day, LOL.

So anyway, I didn't reach my goals set for this week in the challenge.  And what's worse, I think I'm going to need to sit the next week out, challenge-wise.  If this is a typical cold for me, I'll be out of commission for a couple days.

I am considering carrying mace, maybe a small spot of velcro attached to the hanlde bar to keep it handy. I have a lot of dogs in my neighborhood, not all are behind fences. Now if someone would just invet a 1983 Ford LTD repellent....hmmm.....

Hey y'all!!!

I am still here and working on getting the results of week 1 and week 2 of the challenge up.... but its slow going.  I am beyond stressed and have more stuff to do than hours in the day to get it done.  But I will be caught up with everything this week.  So that means its back on track for me!!!!  YAY!

How is week 3 going so far?

Goodmorning gang, I woke earlly this am and was at the pool at 0530 for a 30 minute swim before duty. I will try to get my run in this afternoon, but things are a little crazy here at the FD, I won't have time to go onto indivisual logs for motivation so... "GET GOING!!!!"

Hey, guys.  I need to decrease my goals this week, so, Robyn, if that takes me out of the challenge, that's cool and understandable.

3x/30 minutes        Walk/Run

2x/1 hour               Yoga

2x/30-45 minutes   Strength Training

beaker29 - 2008-01-26 6:29 PM I have a silly question...Does a spin class count as seat time for my scheduled ride?

OK... sorry to get to this question so late but I need to answer this before you post in the Tri Talk forum.. (For those new to BT, this very question will start WW3 as it is a VERY highly debated issue.)

FOR OUR PURPOSES:  Spin class counts as bike time.  Here's why:

I don't care what ANYONE says, spin class will improve your biking and I am living proof of that.  I have taught spin classes for 2 years, and have regularly attended them for many many years.  I can honestly say that spin class is the sole reason that I am as strong on the bike as I am.  I can't run or swim to save my life, but when I am trained and in shape, I can bike like hell.  Spin class has given me lots of strength in my legs and tons of endurance.

That said, spin class is not TRULY bike time.  It should be used to complement your bike time.... nothing works like (time in the saddle).  But for some of us, the harsh winter makes bike time impossible... so spin class is the best we have.  And it will help you lots!!!

Shanaspree-- re: rotator cuff -- I tore my rt. one several years ago skiing. It took almost a year to get it back. But I've been able to swim fine, until last week when I overused my left shoulder and am having pain. Only advice I can give you, other than seeing a dr. and a physical therapist, is to ice and take some anti-inflammatory. There are exercises, but hard for me to explain here. I think a session or two with a PT would help. I know that continuing to work it while it's sore is not a good idea -- Feel free to PM me if you'd like for me to explain some of the exercises. Best of luck with your plan for the week. Oh, I don't know how old you are, but the older I seem to get, the longer it takes for these irritations to settle down. :-) Just a speed bump though.
take care,

~~Lynn

Wow, maybe a brsik 30 minute swim prior to duty was not the best idea. We had a structre fire this morning and now I am beat. we still havbe to go out this afternoon and check some fire hydrants, and then we have  group of 6 and 7 year old boy scouts coming to the station.

I pulled the trigger!!! Registered for my first Sprint (or maybe mini-sprint)....500swim, 9 bike, and 2.25 run....April 19th.  Given my swimming is the weakest I'd have preferred a 400, but the short bike and run should help me survive!

I am here and alive... I am spending all day in this retarded training class.....

Here's one thing about me:  I have an attention span that lasts exactly 45 minutes.  After that, I am gone.  But I have to sit in this class for 8 hours and they want me to pay attention.  Can't do it.  Sorry.  But I am expected to know this crap.  Ugh.

Virtual group hug for Robyn "O" What kind of work do you do? You can daydream about your next tri!

Aber4-- Way to go. I still haven't official signed up for the tri I want to do, but at least found out the water temp will be 68 to 70 and not in the low 60's like the ocean/bay swims. You'll do great!

Sorry about your little one ditchdoc -- Kids do change our lifestyles. Hope he's better soon andyou're off to do your brick.

One of my son's friends did the challenge in San Antonio. I'll ask him about it.

Are you still in your training? (hehe)
