Hi everyone,

I am so sorry that I didn't meet my goals. I know they were small,

Lisa

Jeez Lisa-- considering your month, you ROCKED your goals!  70% with all that going on?  you should be pleased with your effort!  Sorry you had a tough month.

Hi everyone,

I am so sorry that I didn't meet my goals.  I know they were small, especially compared to a lot of the others.  But, I am a beginner and this was my first challenge.  Unfortunately, life kind of fell apart around me this month.

With apologies,

Lisa

No apologies needed, it is what it is and there is nothing you can do with life, you gave it your all and that is why we sign up for these challenges. Sorry you had a tough month, I hope it turns around for you this month! Please come back and play again!

Thank you everyone for all the encouragement.  Things finally feel like they are starting to settle down.  I'll think about another challenge but it sure is hard trying to set goals and predict what you'll be able to do.  I probably just need more experience and time to see what I do on average.

So, which team won the challenge?  I suppose I have to figure out how to get an avatar loaded (and a tag line).  I tried once but I couldn't get the picture small enough to load.

Have a great week.

Lisa, I can size the picture for you. Let me know if you want my help. Glad things are picking up. Still early enough to get on a team for June...just remember to start with low goals, you can always up them.  Have a good summer and KIT

Hey Lisa

No worries - Hopefully BT is a place you can get motivation and encouragement on your journey.  Training/exercise is a part of your life - so for this month your attention was needed mostly elsewhere.  Sign up for June and try again!!!  (psst - I'm on Kamikaze Geckos - so if you want to be with the best -  you can ask to be on that team!!

he he he

WESTIES are BESTIES!!!

Just a quick question....and this is not being petty or anything....but the challenge moderator indicated that some people dropped out last week and it changed the results.  I dont understand this....is this a way out of having a poor performance?  I totally get the reason if one is injured but I noticed in the past few challenges that there is this wave of drop-outs at the end....and it is usually the ones who are far below goal.  Guess I am just voicing some frustation and certainly dont want to end on that note so....

NICE JOB EVERYONE!  THIRD IS MUCH BETTER THAN FOURTH!  AND WE WERE EVER SO CLOSE TO SECOND....YOU KNOW, IT ISNT FAIR, WE LIVE IN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PART OF OF COUNTRY AND HAVE SO MUCH TO DO, HOW CAN THEY EXPECT US TO TRAIN AS MUCH AS THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO LIVE IN LESS PRECIOUS PLACES.

Thanks for letting me be a part of this group...hope to see some or all of you in the June challenege.

This may not be the whole story, but....

As a non-participant in the challenge, but a former (and current) challenge organizer, Gill asked for my opinion regarding 3 people. All three had not been participating in the challenge since pretty much the beginning of the month. Two had not logged on to BT at all for several weeks. The third WAS logging onto BT, but not recording any workouts.

All three people were sent PMs and inspires by their Team Captain. None of the three replied.

Based upon this, my suggestion was to drop all three. I felt that the team (and team captain) had made an honest attempt to contact all three, and it did not appear that any of them planned on participating.

It happens. Life gets in the way of workout time, etc. Personally, I don't like to drop people from the challenges, but if they aren't logging onto BT (for the majority of the month), and aren't replying to PMs/inspires.... Well, I couldn't see penalizing the team for this.

As I said, this may not be all that went on. But I am aware of those three people (all on one team). And I agree with the decision to drop them. I hope that all three are OK, and that whatever caused them to not get training time in last month has now been resolved.

As for people being dropped at the end of the month - yes, that's when they'd normally get dropped. We try to give everyone an opportunity to participate. So I don't drop anyone until it becomes apparent that they really have no intention of participating. The result is that it often happens late in the month. (You'll probably see it again this month.)

And yes, CA would be a GREAT place to train. Someday, I really want to get out there and see it.

- Dee

This was my fourth challenge, but the first one where I didn't have to lower my goals or flat out drop out.  The month that I dropped out was April -- first taxes were hellacious and then either I or the girls were sick.  I held off asking to be dropped, but when it became apparent that there was no hope, I asked to be dropped.  Didn't want to pull my team down further.  (However, I did wear the penalty flower this month).

Along the way, I've learned to make my goals more modest -- as everyone says, they can always be raised.  Anyway, this is just one perspective on the dropping issue.

Hi all -- I don't think this is a petty issue at all. In fact as both an organiser and a participant it's one that gets me pretty fired up

D has explained the reasons people get dropped from teams (i.e. disappearing off the face of the earth). There are also people who ask to be removed from teams, usually because something massive has happened in their life and they can't keep up their training or because they've been injured.

In these cases I always tell people that they can scale back their goals to fit their revised circumstances (especially if they've been ill or injured but can resume some training) and offer them the chance to continue in the challenge (because most people are dropping out reluctantly).

I don't think so far there has been much abuse of this. BTers typically want to train and the people I know who have asked to be dropped are not not pulling their weight (apoloiges for double negative!). Having said that, I do think that if I was running a challenge again, I'd have a rule that people couldn't drop out entirely after the end of week 3. They could scale back their goals if they got hit by "life" or injury but not drop out. I think that would help prevent people leaving the majority of their training to the last minute and then deciding that they can't all fit it into a week.

I'd certainly be interested in hearing what others think of this idea (and I'm sure D would too because it's a common problem).

Any suggestions about how to encourage even training across a month, without penalising people who are away for a week, would be interesting as well. Although I can confirm that weekly spreadsheets are a nightmare

Thanks for your comments and feedback and thanks most of all for participating in the May challenge!

thanks for all the responses and I totally get it.....in the big picture, it doesn't really matter all that much but it is better for me to presence that nasty little cus of a voice inside.  I think everyone on BT is awesome and it is a pleasure to be part of the team.  Thanks again to you all for playing.

On to june......
