For those of you that are into blogs...I found this website today. The guy who runs it is a former college swimmer who started teaching swimming and a lot of his focus is on tri swimming.  He is from my town, but I have never met the guy and this is not a plug (other than I like the info he is giving out and wanted to share it).  It looks like he just started it up so there is not a lot on it yet, but it looks promising.  I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Ok, I am just about ready to get back at it.  Got a few more days of recovery then will be starting up Sun Jan 4th.  I have been back reading the blogs, looking at triathlon websites, and getting pumped up about the new year.  I went through and added my schedule of races I am planning on doing this year (just a rough guideline...I need them to keep me motivated).

A half-mary in Feb, bike riding and tri training in Mar/Apr, then my tri season starts with a super sprint May 10th.  I've got 3 short tri's during the year culminating with my Olympic in Sept!  I'll be mixing in some duathlons/bike rides/runs during the year as well.

Oh and GREAT news...just found out today that I am being promoted as of Jan 4th as well!!  I will still have my messed up schedule until April but then I should finally have normal work hours with weekends off!!  I am so excited about this year.  Finally will get to train with other people at normal times and no more working the night before a race (and get like 2hrs sleep). And today is my bday!

So what is everyones year gonna look like?  Goals?  Happy New Year!

Hi Tim,

Sounds like your year is starting off nicely already - glad to hear it.

I'm still plugging away at my Paris Marathon goal till April but you have inspired me to pick a tri for the end of 2009 so I have something on the calendar.

There are a few 1& 2km open water swims around and I'd like to do one of those before my first open water tri.

I've been spending all day setting goals, planning etc - I LOVE today - it is my favorite day of the year as I plan for the year ahead with the word possibility firmly planted in mind.

I also made up some goals sheets for the kids with headings for different areas so they can also set their goals. We have been doing this for a while now. The kids make 2 copies - 1 for the wall in their room and 1 for me to keep so I can keep them on track.

We are just spending tonight (New Years Eve) quietly at home with a bottle of champers and tomorrow I will be doing my brick session then taking Cody and his mates into the city to the skate ramp by the Yarra River. Good times..

Tim, your excitement is contagious!  Big congratulations on the promotion and Happy Late Birthday!

Michelle, those open water swims sound like a lot of fun.  I'm actually thinking of finding one this summer myself.  We'll be around to keep annoying inspire you as you're officially turning the corner for your Journey Towards Paris.

James: I made a conscious choice to take 31st Dec off to use the day for goal setting for myself and my kids which felt pretty good. Other than that though I didn't miss a day.

Well done to you.

I try not to make too big a deal out of the new year.  For me, every day is the first day of the rest of my life.

However, as I was sitting here at my computer yesterday posting on BT, I realized that I'd be spending more of my day talking about triathlon training than actually triathlon training.  Despite my belief that every day is special, I simply could not let the first day of the new year go by without getting out there and running.  (My Y is closed on NYD.)

I galvanized the will and put on my clothes.  I told Gary that I didn't know if I'd be back in about an hour (5 mile run) or 20 minutes (2 mile run).

The hardest - hardest - part about running in cold weather is the first five minutes.  After that, if you're appropriately dressed, it's not bad in the least.

I got to mile 2 and decided to make it 3.  It was a great run.  The sun was shining, the wind was low and it was warmer than it had been.  It was 30 degrees.

All I'm saying is that even though I didn't want yesterday to be special, I really would have regretted starting off the first day of the year doing nothing when I was, indeed, perfectly capable of doing so.

Seeing how hard all you guys work encouraged - and encourages me to keep at it.  Thank you.

Hi, All.

Because I was under the impression that groups were wrapping at the end of '08, and because a local woman who is an inspiration to me is mentoring a group that has a TT teammate of mine and a some other local folks in it, I'll be working with them this season-- I think it'll be a really good fit for me.

I'm still aiming for an Ironman January - doubling up on the running miles since my 10k plan has me running at least that much this month - so will be checking in on everyone's blogs through the challenge and hope you don't mind me being the occasional lurker here!

Like you, Lora, I had to get out and do something on NY's day-- partially to start the year off right, but also to make up for the unhealthy evening the night before

Happy New Year, Everyone!!

This group is not ending.  We've just been moved to Archives.  That's it.  As long as we post, we can gather.  A lot of mentor groups still do.  I really, really hope we do.

I did sign-up for another group with the full intention of being involved in that one and being involved here.  The big reason was that the mentor is from around my area and that is really appealing to me.  I'm also a member of Team Skinny in the weight-loss challenge, so I'm all over the place really.

But no.  We don't have to end, but you can join another mentor group, too.  They've just released some more groups available if you want to check them out.  I really hope we keep what we've got going.  I think we've got an amazing group here.

Here's a post Ron made back in April of last year that's still relevant.

I would like to stay with this group.  It will be cool to see our 2nd season unfold.  I barely have time to keep up with this group...don't know how you others can be involved in so many!

I completely agree about seeing how we do season 2.

I'm on this site way too much because I work part-time from home.  I am, indeed, very blessed...or cursed:  I get to do laundry while I work.  How cool is that?

Just a note to say I am back.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and from the looks of things you are all right on track. I took a break with christmas and then came down with the flu that knocked me out for a week. I feel better now and took the plunge and went bronze. I have started a OLY training plan so count me in the group.

I really ought to buy a medal myself.  I mean, I really, really should.

An Oly, huh?  That's great.  Which one are you looking at?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say sorry I've been a bit slack in answering your inspires and staying in touch. School holidays here so I'm busy with the kids and juggling my business with the rugrats running around. Any time on the computer is kept short and on work stuff I can help it so I can be with the kids.

Tonight I had my first training session in a week and it felt fantastic. Back to the physio tomorrow so he will be a happy man I took some time off and dosed myself up on (the dreaded) anti-inflams.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that my dodgy body hangs in there till Paris

There are several in the area to chose from and I havent yet pinned down on one. We have one in Council bluffs Iowa called the Black squirrel that is in August and looks really good. I will do that one unless I feel ready by June, there is the HyVee OLY in Des Moines. That cmes a day after my wifes b'day so I will have to do some negotiating on that one

I like the bronze so far. The training plans make it easy and the graphs are cool. Amazing how I will suffer on the treadmill for 45 min just to see a graph go up a 16th of an inch. I kinda geek out for that.

That's hillarious about the graph!  Definitely want to talk to the wife about racing too close to her B-day, especially if she's really supportive of your tri endeavors.  Eventually, they may get annoyed with our training and racing, but there's no need to push 'em there any sooner!
