15step - 2010-06-09 9:22 AM So I rode the 1/2 course for the Rock n'Rollman this past weekend (right after the sprint). According to my coach it is a good comparison to Louisville. I hope he is wrong, it was one of the toughest rides I have done to date. Looks like I have some hills and heat to train for! 80 days left!

I'm envisioning the two courses to be very comparable.  The R n' R course isn't bad if you are smart about using your gears and good about trying to keep the effort consistent.  I noticed a huge difference between the first time I rode it about a month ago and the second time this past weekend and I don't think it was so much the bike fitness but that I rode it much smarter the second time around.  You can't underestimate hills in a long ride because it will just accumulate and kick your butt in the end.

I am out!  I have had some medical issues, a slipped disc in lower back and life in general got in the way.

I thought about just doing the swim and the bike and DNFing, but just not in my persona to do that?  I'll be back down in 2012 (if race is still in Louisville).

In training for an IM everything pretty much has to go according to plan and this year it did not.

elcaminobill - 2010-06-08 7:43 PM I did the Rock n Rollman HIM in Macon Georgia this last Saturday, if the hills in Louisville are anything like the ones in Georgia, I have a lot of training to do.

I road the hills in Wood Stock and Roswell and they are not even close to the hills on the IM course. I posted some videos of teh course if you would like to see them. http://www.triathlon-mind-training.com/blog/video-preview-of-ford-ironman-louisville-bike-course/

repete23 - 2010-06-07 10:42 PM Thanks JayG for the videos of the bike course.  Helped me to visualize and compare to my training rides.  Not to mention the time it must have taken you which we all know is precious.  Well done!

Thank you my friend. I take request also...if you would like to see any other part let me know. I live on the bike course and work across the street form transition and the swim exit.

Let me add my thanks to JayG for the videos of the course.  I live  far enough away that I won't make it down before the race so the commentary and video is very helpful and enlightening.

Just curious if the run is as flat as I have heard?

The run is mostly flat. You will have a short climb about .25 out of T2 and then on to a bridge across the Ohio. After that you will have some small rollers (2 to be exact) right around the UofL area. Other than that the run is flat.

Hey folks, how's training coming along?

Training has been good for me lately, but got a bug this week. Will take it easy and pick it up again next week. Body probably will thank me for the low volume week.

2 months, 2 weeks (and 5 days) left! Not too much time left!

Training is going well.  I'm in a swim focus week with 13,100m total distance.  I have a bike fit scheduled for this saturday, a 5 hour ride next week, and then my first tri of the year on the 27th.  Feeling good, but starting to notice lack of enthusiasm outside of my workouts.  This happened to me during my IMAZ training as well.  My body basically saves all energy for the workouts that it knows are coming.  It's a weird feeling of 'out-of-it-ness' and then I'm fine for all my workouts.

sorry to hear that, but I may be in your same boat. I'm a wait and see kind of approach for now.  If so, I'll wait till 2012, since its the end of the world and what not.

OK looking at getting a tri suit. Not sure about the one or two piece.

What does everyone else use?

I use two piece mainly because a one piece doesn't have the pockets that I want.  But then again I've never gone out shopping and tried on a one piece, only seen 'em online.

I prefer a 2 piece just cause its easier to go to the port-o-jon. Besides, 1 pieces look awkward on me....

A Desoto Forza onepiece just got posted in classifieds for $50!  I would get it if I didn't already have to exact outfit except in a two piece.

This has probably been covered 10x all ready but can anyone give me a best rundown of expectation of the swim course.  From what I can tell a little current against for 1500-1800 yards upstream the around the island then a decent current with you for the remainder downstream?

I searched and on ST and read a race report from last year (2009) that said there was really very little to no current in the river going back down.  I have heard there was current but that was from folks who did it in 2008.  So I guess it is a crapshoot.

Good race simulation today; rode and ran in +90 degree heat and high humidity.

The ride was OK, but the run was where the heat and humidity really made an impact. No doubt about it, training from here on out will need to be in the heat of the day to get acclimatized. The run in Louisville is going to be a scorcher.

I was in the same boat as you on Sunday. A 20' T-Run before a 2 hr bike at 7:30 am had me sweating like a pig. I hope that being in GA will help us be used to the heat/humidity, but yesterday was ridiculous.

What is everyone else doing to adjust for heat and get ready for a hot course?

Did my first 100+ mile ride yesterday, wow what a wake up call! now whenever I say its just one workout I will be missing I will remember how much I suffered. Aug 29th is coming too fast! 11 weeks away. Can anyone tell me is the run completely flat? Thanks and good luck everyone!!

Living and training in Central TX.  Ran 10+ miles on Saturday in 91 deg, 70% RH.  (It was ugly.)  Rode 77 miles on Sunday in 88 deg, 80% RH and ~20mph head wind on the "back."  (Even more ugly.)

Does it get windy in Louisville?  I can handle heat and humidity, and don't mind wind, but I want to be mentally prepared if that's a prevailing condition.
