Sorry for the absence guys. I was away for the weekend. My wife and I spent the weekend in Hotlanta. No kids. Just us in a 72 story hi rise. Nice relaxing weekend. My off day was Saturday and I took yesterday off as well. I got back at it this afternoon with my longest run. I did 8.5 miles this afternoon in 90 mins. Nice run for me... I have 4 weeks until my half marathon so I need to be doing some longer runs. I will do 10 this weekend. Nice job on your 5K William. Good time and congrats to your son as well...Ryan

Hey group! as always, love the updates.

Went skiing on Saturday with the kids...first time for them....I did get two hours of skiing in before picking them up from their lesson..then spent the afternoon coaching them down the bunny slope...man was I sore Sunday...guess those are some different muscles.

Light run this morning for 40 minutes and then Nicki had me swimming 2,900 meters! Jeeesh. Needless to say this was one of those 'not in the mood' mornings but I perservered and completed....sometimes you just have to SUCK IT UP!

LOL

I did an easy 3.11 miles at a easy pace finished feeling good and refreshed.   This week starts the build up to the 25k trail run April 10th.  I had to stop at the sporting goods store on my way home and pick up a foam roller after sitting all day today my left side hip was bothering me when I stood up it was fine when I walked but getting up it was lightly iritated.  I did a little research and sounds like it is the upper IT band where it attaches to the hip and recomendations were for a foam roller.  Let me tell you that thing works wonders.  I used it and worked that side over real good before my run and after I got back as well as some stretches for it.  I plan to do them every day for a while to make sure no more problems arise.

Nice runs your doing there GoGoGo keep it up man you inspire me when it is cold here.  It will be cold and I say well if Go can run in weather that will  freeze his gatoraid I can suffer through this LOL!

Sounds like a nice time.. We love the kidos but it is nice to get a break every now and then.  That is a great run and a strong pace man I think you will do great on that 1/2 Marithon.

Sounds like you still managed to tough it out Phil Nice job.  I do know what you mean some days you just have them off days and making it through the workout is just tough then others just seem like maybe they were to easy... Seems like the group is thining out again to just us few core people.  I hope the rest of the bunch is ok.

Nice strong run Bruce, 8.5 mile in 90 minutes.

God job toughing out the swim Phil, some days nothing seems to be easy.

Took yesterday off and watched some Olympics.

Did 5 mile run this morning at the rec center on the indoor track.  My hips were just a bit tight at the start but loosened up at about 1.5 miles, so felt ok by the end.

Somedays you just have to tell yourself that it is what it is and it's ok to feel like crap....I think it builds the mental toughness needed to get through a tri...there are times during a tri when you're like 'what the heck was I thinking'...I typically get this thought as I get into the water....so, I tell myself to take it one event at a time and to have fun! I'm not making a living at this and the fact is, it should be fun...that calms me down and then I smile and realize how much i love this.

Yes, the group seems to ebb and flow...but I sorta expect that....I'm on every day logging my workouts and checking the blog.....only takes me about 10 minutes total and it's a labor of love!

Nice job keeping at it!

Here's a picture of my transition area for a sprint race I did in 2008. Ignore the plastic bag....so, who can point out some things in this picture that are key to transition success?

Socks are in your shoes already, and lined up, helmet is on your bike (assuming glasses are on your helmet though I can't tell).  Bag is open incase you need anything last minute.

Don't be like me and not even have your shoes untied during my second tri last summer lol.

Nice pics Phil.

as far as the transition area goes I say everything is neat and in place so you dont have to look for anything.  How crowded do them racks get how many bikes per rack during the race?

good, good! racks can get VERY crowded..this pic was taken obviously well before anyone showed up....so, expect them to be tight...my backpack would actually go behind my shoes before the race..has to stay out of the way.

Transition bag is in an aisle - you'll find it 3 rows away if you're lucky.  Tuck the bag and the towel under the bike as best you can.

You've chosen the end of a rack.  Personally I would have chosen a spot next to an inner support.  Some twit (or twits) will come late and push you in.  Then your easy to find bike will be hidden.

haha! True...good news is the bag obviously was moved into a correct position prior to the race....I've had mixed experiences on bike racks...I think twits abound and I've found my bike on the ground on the inside or outside.  This was a relatively small race so I picked outside so I could find it quickly....in the BIG races I've stuck to more inside positions...good point though!

Also, you have an aisle spot, one of the best things about getting there as soon as transition opens.  At NJ state I saw a grown man throw a hissy fit because his bag was moved slightly....Although 98% percent of the tri community is really friendly and helpful, there were will those few who give attitudes about moving their stuff to make room for people who show up closer to when transition closes.  Best bet is just to get there nice and early so there is no confusion.  Just my 2 cents.  Probably the only 2 cents I have to give.  lol

Hey guys.  Been on the road last week and now out of comission with a virus.  I missed about 4 pages of blog and just catching up.

Phil, I loved the transition pic.  The first thing I thought of for a wise answer was that everyone else was already gone and you had plenty of room to move!.

All kidding aside, nice set up.

I hate the weather!!!!! My fiance and I had always shared a loved for Texas and have always joked about moving but really I'm going nuts in stupid NJ.  Not only does running outside go out the picture (yes I know you can still run outside, but I'm not that hardcore.)  I'd suck it up on the treadmill but it looks like getting to the gym tomorrow will be a nightmare.  Ughhhhhhh!!!  Sorry just had to rant, possibly another snow day tomorrow. (I don't want to be in school till July)

I must say I like Texas also LOL!!  Sorry you guys are getting beat with all the bad weather this year.  I would die if I lived up there.

Tonight I did a 7 mile easy run.  At 45 minuits I stoped at the park and filled my water bottle back up and had a Gel pack.  On the way back at about 1 hour and 10 minuits I got really Hungry I mean like starving.. Lucky I brought a 2nd gel.  I took a walk break and had another gel and finished the run feeling good. I ate as soon as I got home...  If all continues well I should be prepared for the 25K come April.
