Happychick - 2010-03-09 12:20 PM So I get up, get dressed, come downstairs and my hubby says "you're really going running? I think its raining." "Ahhh, that's ok, I think it stopped anyway" I say. I walked out to the door to find that it wasn't just raining, it was a torrential down pour. Now i'm all about running in the rain, actually I love it, but not when there is a fear of getting washed away. Needless to say, I turned around and came back inside and will have to find the time later to get it done!

I have a rough time running in the rain.  Snow is no problem as long as it isn't too deep. Rain I really have a rough time with though. For one thing, I don't have the right gear for it. Plus, the only times I have run in the rain, it was also cold and got to point that the rain hurt when it hit me I was so cold. Thank goodness it wasn't raining hard.

I love running in the rain!!!  It's my favorite!!!  Well, next to a cold morning in the mountains after a dusting of snow.  That is my all time favorite time to run!   No special clothes are necessary for a rainy run.  You're gonna get wet anyway.  Sometimes I'll wear a cycling vest that has mesh on the back to cut the wind from the front.  I get really hot and sweaty so I can't don a real running rain coat.  A baseball cap and glasses are a must, though.

I was going to run this morning but baby was up a lot last night.  He is fighting a cold.  Poor guy was coughing really bad and just wanted to be held.  I was to tired to go for the run.  I'm going to try to go for my swim in a couple hours.  We shall see what happens.

Definitely need a hat.  Glasses drive me crazy with the drops on the lens. 30-40 degrees is a little cold though. And here in the deserts of Utah, we don't get a lot of rain when its warm enough to run. I think some gloves to keep my hands warm would help though.

Those are the most fun - the looks you get from people are satisfying in the yes I am sick but I appreciate your concern type of way anyways

Oh I totally agree...yesterdays run was like that.  I was smiling from ear to ear while everyone else out there (army folk forced to do their PT) were all groaning and turning their heads. One girl actually ran by me and said "this totally sucks!" I just smiled even more and said, "nope, I LOVE it!"
Unfortunately, this morn was not that fun kind of running rain

I agree that no special gear is required..just my shorts and shirt (and yes, shoes)!  However, lucky for me, (like Bill said) this IS Hawaii so its not that cold rain you guys are encountering right now! I actually learned to love running in the rain when I lived in WA back in the early 90s...you either get used to it or you don't ever run outside! But then again, I learned to love running in negative temps when I lived in AK so I guess I can get used to just about anything if it means avoiding inside training

Born in Alaska. Enjoy running in the snow. My favorite time to run is late at night with big snowflakes falling gently to the ground. Don't have a problem staying warm when its snowing. Running in the rain isn't the same for me. First I get wet, which that alone isn't a problem, but then I get cold and things aren't so fun any more. Warm and wet is fun, but still prefer running in the snow. I admit it. I'm strange and I'm a wimp.

You guys must be psychic.  I did my run in the rain today.  It was 36 degrees and the rain was falling steady.  A Gore rain jacket kept me nice and dry the entire time.

pdbman - 2010-03-09 1:49 PM I've considered commuting to work but I just can't talk myself into it. Its 17 miles in traffic and the last bit is on a road with no shoulder, semis, and 50 mph speed limit. I work in an industrial area with a lot of trucking companies like FedEx, UPS (where I work), DATS, plus Albertsons and other companies have distribution centers in the area. Plus with all the trucks there is a lot of crap on the road. Call me a chicken but I just can't do it.

I agree with you there.  I have a 1 mile section that is pretty rough but other than that I have no complaints.  Safety first!!

Paul, would 2700 West work for you?  I see a few guys take that quite often.
I was going to try and find my route to work next week (I changed jobs last July and still have ridden to work yet), but then the day I'd do it is the day I have an impt interview, don't want to chance getting hit and missing it.

(BTW... why is the font shrinking when I come into the "post" dialog box?)

Running in rain???
I LOVE the rain (used to hate it in La, but moving to this dry climate, I miss it)
I was also ready to run this afternoon in the rain... except that all of a sudden the wind picked up and something about rain and wind COMBINED does not sit will for me.

Happychick - 2010-03-07 8:10 PM Hey all! Sorry I was completely absent this past week...I felt as though I was on my death bed but am feeling much better now.

Stacie ~ to answer your question from a week ago I am moving to WA.  My hubby is retiring (Army) and has accepted a job up in Northern WA which is nice cuz we have family there!

Yeah for retiring - my hubby is retiring (Air Force) and will be out effective 1 May. He starts his new job here at Tinker in OK on 3 May.

Yeah! Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Double yeah for retiring! But, wow, he isn't even taking a break?? We are staying in a hotel on Waikiki our last week here and calling it our final Hawaii vacation!

We would love to take him a break but most of the people that he has been offered a job by they have been immediate positions and didn't want to wait until 1 May so when they agreed to wait we didn't want to be too far out to risk losing it.

Oy!  Long day.   I weed-whacked a large slope of matted Vinca and shoveled (out of a large truck), hauled and spread a cubic yard of mulch.  I also did some planting, weeding, and pruning.

I'm tired.

On the books for tomorrow...
5am swim/spin brick
3.5 more hours of shoveling, hauling and spreading mulch.
Receive a nice fat pay check
doctors appointment...

and that only gets me to 2pm...I am not sure what I am doing with the remainder of the day.

I hear ya! Mike lucked out and got offered a job that won't be up and running until Mayish time so it worked out PERFECTLY! We even got a package in the mail today welcoming us to the "family" with a beanie in it to help us acclimate to the cold climate! How cool is that?! Either way, I know its a huge relief for them KNOWING they are getting out with a job in hand, huh?!

Wow!  It's quiet around here!  Is everyone napping already?

I plan on running at lunchtime.  It's beautiful and sunny this morning after the heavy rain we had last night.  It was seriously dumping buckets!

Have a great day!
