another 4.5 mile run and more strength done. Up over 41% for both. I have it mapped out so I will hit both. Especially with the runs I am increasing a mile a week per plan up to my 1/2 mary...

Feeling a bit better after getting out. Little nervous for an 8 mile run on Saturday.

Hope everyone else had a great day.

When is the half mary?

Relax, leave a water bottle and gel in your mailbox or something, pace for an even run, break it into chunks if you can.  I have various combinations of roads in my neighborhood that never take me more than a couple miles from home but I can do up to 5 miles before I have to repeat the route.  Takes out the boredom factor.
Power up the ipod if you like running with one, it helps break up the monotony of a long and often lonely run.

Gosh I hope so - until my pack comes for hydration/nutrition I am running circles around my "hood". It will take me 12 laps to get to 8 miles but I did it for 7 last week. What is 1.5 more laps.

cottoneyes - 2010-10-14 5:06 PM Hiya Crushers,

Just in at work after seeing the doc, got good news and bad news.

Good news is the HIM might still be on, everything appears to be a strain which will need monitoring to see how it goes after another week of no exercise.

The bad news is I'm going to have to drop out of the challenge, won't be fair on you guys to have the percentages pulled down by someone that is going to only be able to get 50% tops with all this time off.

Keep up the good work and keep crushing those Ghoulies.  We're at the half way point now and you're all in a good position to crush them lifeless.

cheers

Joe
Adjust your goals for injury....there's a formula based on the % of the month we have left.  We are 50% done with the month (ehhh, just under) adjust your goals by that much.

12 laps! At least each lap shouldn't be too long so you can count them down - I enjoy counting down. Often I split my runs into legs, mentally, and count down, or I'll count the hills and count them down. All helps the run pass faster.

My 1/2 Mary is the 21st of November (I turn 34 on the 19th so what better way to celebrate) I ran the Route 66 1/4 Marathon in Aug and now it is time for the Route 66 Half and Full Mary. My first 1/2 every.

I live on a loop so I run the loop - like I replied to Rachel (I hope I remember the name right - if I don't sorry I am terrible with names) it will take me 12 laps. Last weekend I did 10.5 laps for 7 miles and I fueled every 2 miles (every 3 laps) when I got back to the house - water/gatoraide on the mailbox with shot bloks. I tried a powerbar gel (green apple) before hand and could only stomach 1/2 of it and then it gave me the shakes. Last week I took the Mp3 and it died after the first lap and I did well without it. Tonight I ran 4.5 without it and didn't miss it so I might not need it.

I ordered a pack with a 22 oz bottle and a pocket for nutrition - that goes on the back of my waist. I hope it gets here before Saturday but if it doesn't I will stay close to home. If it does I want to go back down to the path along the Oklahoma River. It is a 6 mile out paved 5' wide path that I usually do but last week they were having a regatta so I ran at home. OH well - where ever I am at I need to practice fuel/hydration.

Thanks for the tips - I need all I can get. Total newbie trying to run a 2:30 first half mary. According to last years time I will be in the bottom 1/3 of my age group but oh well.

Yep - just under .7 mile a lap. I love it since I refuel (water/gatorade/shot blocks) every 2 miles or 3 laps. So I break it up into 3 laps. I focus on 3 laps at a time. Last weekend when I did 9 laps - got my hydration and food I said oh come on - 1.5 laps you can do this in your sleep. It was a lot easier to break it up into focusing on 3 laps instead of 6 or 9 more to go.
