Jason - you've put in the hours, now is the time to reap the reward. You're gonna kick butt!! Good luck - can't wait for a full and in depth RR. I'll be thinking of you. Are you trackable?

Scott, thanks for the ear plug tip. I will definitely go with it. In fact, I think it's such a good idea I'm going to pick some up this afternoon! Which stroke efficiency drills do you do? I could use all the efficiency I can get my hands on lol

good morning.  it looks like everyone is doing well.  i have not been on the site for a few days. honestly i have been trying to not think about tris for the past week or so.  it is crazy because for five months it has been all i have thought about and now that my race is here i dont want to think too much about it.  all of the "stuff" you have to remember to bring is crazy.  i am going to try very hard to just have fun.

i hope everyone has a great day.

Jason - makes sense to me - get your stuff together and just let it happen. When and where is your race?

Anyone have any suggestions of excerises I can do to strengthen my upper body for swimming. I know what works for my core but nothing for my back and shoulders. I did some light shoulder excerises at the gym yesterday but I don't think it was the right muscles.

Sorry for the duplicate post. My phone was going crazy.

Use a stretch band. Wrap one around something and pull as you would using the stroke.  I love dumb bell rows.  Like plank while lifting light dumb bells, 10 or 15 pounds in each hand.  One arm, the other, etc.

Scott - nice time!  My training group did a swim test last week and I think I averaged about 2:05 for 100yd.  I need to pace myself better though b/c I get really winded/exhausted after about 50-100yds.  Guess that means more time in the pool for me! Laughing

Training is going well this week, although I had a crappy ride this morning.  Did an hour and 15 min on the computrainer and felt like crap.  I know it was because I did a powerplate workout last night and my legs haven't recovered.  The guy running the computrainer class suggested I try the strength training on mornings before a run workout.  This will simulate leg fatigue from biking before I do my run workout.  Makes sense...plus it can't hurt.  Excited to get my massage tonight!  Everything feels sore after the last few days of workouts.

Coach - finally figured out how to upload my workouts into the training log so no more blanks! Laughing

Good luck this weekend, Keith!

Charlie: nothing wrong with rest after a long run!!   Way to enjoy your hard work...

Deb:  What didn't you like about the seat?

with the water at 60 you don't need boots, maybe caps.  To be honest once you start swimming you will be just fine, all the adrenaline kicks in to take away any pain.   As for the daughter I have 3 dog's and 2 cats so children are not my Strong suit LOL.  I'm sure you raised her right so there is nothing to fear.  If all else do what my friends do "clean their guns" when the date comes to pick her up!! :-)

Brian: It's always nice to get back into training after a few days of R&R.  Just get your wife to either golf or bike and you will be set!

My wife and I will ride together for fun but if I'm training and she wants to work on her tan she will scooter along side me (I like to draft when tired). It really forces me to push because she doesn't like to go slow. Luckily the scooter only goes 35.

KC: no codes here.  Just wondering why are you pointing to the xterra?

Keith: The cold will just make you swim faster!! LOL

Jason: don't worry about it, there really isn't much to remember for a race but HAVE FUN! and stay within yourself.  there is always someone faster and slower than you.  Do you have a bib #?   Shoot me a PM if you have any specific question!

Jen : a great swim exercise is to put bands on a pole and bend over to simulate the pull of swimming (one arm at a time)  Another is upright rows, shoulder presses.

Naked kevin : have a great run and enjoy your trip

Sarah: Just keep working at the swim and your times will drop!   I like to do a workout right before running that way your legs are shot.. Just watch your form as you get tired you tend to loose form and thats when injuries can happen.  Also make sure you work on quick turnover instead of just plunking down with heavy legs.  I look forward to your logs, Mine have been blank since thurs (damn cold)

I know, Just nice to have someone to rib that is doing the race also.. Everyone I train with is doing either Kona/IMKY/IMUSA.  Have one local guy going to WI but he is way out of my leage (ie 9hrs)

You motivate the heck out me, lets both have great races and I know you will get a PR... :-) (I know smart A$$)

Good afternoon Team.

I hope everyone is having a great day.

Jason and Keith - good luck this weekend - enjoy the races.

Coach - how many guns do you have LOL and I just mentioned Xterra suits because that is what I bought this past winter and I thought I got a great deal on the 2 of them. I know there are better but for entry level I thought you could not beat it -  please don't tell me I bought crap LOL.

Jen - have you tried using paddles when you swim - good shoulder work out.

I am only going to get a swim in today Frown but I am going to try to make it count. I was able to finish off spreading my mulch this afternoon in the rain (surprise, suprise, it is raining again). After that I went to my appointement with the heart specialist before heading out to help with the junior golf program here at the muni course where my former Assistant Pro and student is now the Head Pro. It was cold but fun.

The doctors appointment was not much fun though and I am bit down about it. I was hoping to avoid taking meds for hight blood presure with proper diet and excercise but no such luck. The 24 test results indicate my BP is on the low side of high and based on the fact that my Brother, Dad and Mom are all on BP meds  and I have the Bicuspid Aorta Valve - I have no choice. There does not seem to be any other way I will be able to bring it down a notch so starting tomorrow morning my heart doctor has me on a Antihypertensive called Micardis Plus. I am going to try it for 30 days and then he is going to check me out again to see if it is doing the job. My biggest concern is that I want to stay active and don't want to see any side effects that will make me feel like $hit. He assures me I probably won't even notice I am on any medication and if I do, we will change it or modify it so I can carry on with what I am doing.

He also says that I have to think long term and cut down on any risk of heart or stroke issues when I get older - so there you have it - Sucks but what are you going to do.

Anyway, I will carry on like nothing is wrong and hopefully I will not have any side effects and everything will be ok.

I did tell him I would accept one side effect though - I would be ok with this drug making me a better swimmer LOL.

Have a great night eveyrone.

KC

KC - If it makes you a better swimmer, I'm going to start taking it to because I need all the help I can get!  To bad about the drugs, but at least they told you to keep doing what your already doing and not to slow down.

KC: KEith is right, its better than being told to sit in a chair and do nothing.

Hang in there!

As for the gun number there are 2 numbers, the one I admit to my wife and the true number. LOL  She is always seeing new guns pop up asking when I got it, I just tell her I have had it a while>>  she doesn't believe me any more.lol

Keith - thanks and I will let you know if they help with the swimming Smile

Coach - I guess it would be like asking me how many sets of clubs I have LOL.

Deb - I think your idea for Coach is great. Smile Just have him wear a T-shirt that says Deb sent me!

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes - have a good night - going to get up early and run 10 k and I am looking foward to it.

KC - that sucks! But as the previous posts have said, maybe it'll make you faster! Wink  Both my parents take high blood pressure meds as well...but my brother and I seem to be ok so far.

Coach - I'll try the strength to run and let you know how it goes!

So I had my first massage in a long time with a massage therapist that is also an athlete and personal trainer.  We spoke in length about some numbness/pain I'd been having in my left during my long runs.  Well, he found that my outer calves are really weak and the inner calves are overcompensating and really tight, which makes my foot extremely underpronated! And here I was thinking I am an overpronater!  Maybe it's my superfeet insoles?!  I always get the green ones which are for high arches.  Anyways, there were a couple times I wanted to cry but he said if I start using the foam roller, stick roller, and exercises to strengthen my outer calves, I should be ok in a few weeks.

He showed me my foot and my mind quickly went to the scene in Misery where James Caan's feet get knocked in by Kathy Bates.  OUCH! Ok, so my feet don't roll in that bad but that's right where my mind went.  LOL!

Have a good night everyone!  Tomorrow I've got an easy spin on the lakefront path followed by a short transition run.  Figured if my first race is in a couple weeks, I better get started on those bricks! Surprised
