Extreme Veteran 863 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Life finally caught up with me. I have had a mild cold since Thursday but woke up today with a stomach virus that got the better of me. I hate missing my workouts and feel so guilty. I know it's for the best but its so hard. Kelly- will you post your videos? For the whole30 peeps- how much fruit are you eating in a day? |

New user 21 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I HOPE that you are in IMLP.....I need you there. I have done a bunch of swim only races. I love them since you literally show up in a bathing suit and off you go...there is no thinking about it at all. I had a quiet weekend which was nice I got a ride, run, TRX and yoga in...back to reality tomorrow. |

Can't really tell with avatars. Trying to figure out how to post one from iPad. Can't be that weird right? We've seen kelly in shrink wrap and the conversation on Scott's legs was interesting. This is a good idea. Everyone -- it would be lovely if you could post a "real" picture so we know what everyone looks like.

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Michele, sorry to hear you're sick. It's no fun. But rest is important so take the time needed to recover. (Spoken from someone who usually does not, and always regrets it.) On the fruit, it seems to me I've read 1-2 servings a day is ok, unless you have a sugar problem in which case they say to watch it, or if you notice blood sugar spike cut it out. And I think you're supposed to also have protein with it. |

52 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I hope everyone had a great weekend! Sounds like many of you got in some great workouts. I ran in a 5K today, and was happy with how I did today, given my current level of fitness. Last year, in this same race, I was a full minute slower. Two years ago, I also did this same race, and I did it two minutes faster than I did today. However, I need to get over that, as my training volume was significantly higher at that time. I also did a 5K on Thanksgiving, and on a flatter course, I was over 30 seconds slower. I'm definitely seeing impprovements and i'm really happy with where I'm at, and where I believe I can be with continued consistency. |

52 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED On another, note, I continue to make healthier choices, which feels good. I do have a question. I keep hearing people say that after 30 days, or however many days people choose to follow Whole30, it talks about being able to "re-introduce" certain foods back into one's diet. Can someone help me understand this. Can someone explain this? What kinds of foods are then "allowed"? |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED trilooney - 2013-01-06 7:40 PM I'm stuck at about 70% in the book, but my understanding is the foods we are eliminating, "may" be the cause of the issues we all have, or are not aware we have, called systemic inflammation. By cleansing your system and resetting your hormones (hope I am using the right verbiage) and then "slowly" introducing these foods back into our systems, we may notice enough of a difference to realize certain foods don't make us feel well. Again, I haven't reached this part of the book yet, but for the others doing Whole30, you can chime in. I think eliminating sugar all together after Whole30 is not a bad idea. Based on what I have read, It does so much damage. On another, note, I continue to make healthier choices, which feels good. I do have a question. I couldn't stop thinking about them since she posted. They are yummy!!! I combined 1 cup cashews, 1/2 cup sunflower, 1 cup unsweetened dried black cherries, and 12 dates. That makes them whole 30 compatible, right? How and when would you eat them since we aren't really allowed snacks? Actually, it was me who posted the recipe . They are Whole30 compatible. I usually eat one when I need a snack (not very often) or before a workout. You just don't want to use them as a crutch if you have a sugar addiction.
Sorry Norma. Still getting to know everyone's names and ID's. The entire family liked them so they won't be around long enough to use as a crutch! |

Regular 211 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Sigh. I've been denying it all day, but I'm afraid I have to admit now that I've come down with a sore throat/cold. 'Tis the season, I know, but it is happening just when I was getting into a good rhythm in my swim workouts -- so frustrating! Michele, you mentioned a stomach bug; looks like you're not the only one on the shelf. Hope you feel better soon. Do people try to work through colds at all, possibly doing a lighter load, or is it just best to go cold turkey until it passes? |

Can someone help me understand this. Can someone explain this? What kinds of foods are then "allowed"? This is correct. You introduce one food group at a time, taking several days to see how your body reacts before introducing another food group. If you have no reactions - gut problems for example - then you add the next food group. They don't tell you to never eat sugar again, but do say that if you are going to eat something unhealthy, make it worth it. In other words, don't waste your time eating store bought cookies, but if you go and visit your grandmother and she makes her special cake that only she can make, then feel free to eat a piece. The problem is once you unleash that Sugar Dragon, it is hard to turn it back off. |

I was 250ish in the spring of 2010. Spring of last year I got down to the low 160s and have pretty much stayed there. |

Lived in Spring and around Willowbrook Mall area. Today was a 6 mile walk/run. My running buddy was not feeling the run today, and it was actually better for me because as we were doing it, I realized it was my 7th straight day of working out. |

Was feeling pretty proud yesterday - 6 miler that was a whole 1:11sec/mile faster than a month ago, albeit not fast at 11:29/mile, but considering this is my first month back after almost 2 years, I am enjoying the improvement. Looking forward to Atlanta HM in March. Recovery run this afternoon and then some strength training. Kudos to all that are eating better and getting those workouts in!!! |
