Crazy though it sounds, IMLou qualifies for the same year... so that means train/peak/race/rest/peak/race... which is pretty rough. The good news is that means there will likely be a couple of slots that roll down, of course I'm not going to bank on that.
It will make travel uber expensive though |

Member 275 Cleveland OH | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed I know you are just now at the beginning stages of planning this, so wouldnt it be a better idea to maybe plan on qualifying at a race say 4-6 months before verses 1 1/2 months before? If you do qualify for kona are you really going to enjoy it? The pros say take 2 weeks off from doing anything after a IM, Would you even be able to finish Kona if you qualified? Just trying to get you to think of this from every angle. There are so many IM's around I would try to find an earlier one and set my heart on that.

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed I have thought of that, and you are right, it'll be rough to back to back two 140.6's. That said, IMLou still makes the most sense for me considering my "talents" and weaknesses in racing. Also, it gives me the maximum time to prepare (considering I want to race 2014) which is the primary thing... as I actually have to Qualify FIRST before worrying about Kona at all. It's also worth noting that on a "mediocre" day when I don't hit goal, I still have a better chance of getting a roll down slot as a lot of people will indeed not want to do two IM's in a row. (cost of getting a flight/room that close to Kona is also a consideration... gotta start saving now) Also, IMLou gives me the most time to bail out if things turn sour, and given I have had some running injuries the last few months, I think it's a real thing to keep in mind :/
That said, IF things go perfect at IMLou, then Kona will not be much of a race for me. I know it's near impossible to double up on the races and have success in both, but I'm willing to accept that it's just a "I did this" moment as opposed to a true race. But you've got some good points. I'll look at some of the other races as well.

Yeah those hours are my every week tues-Thurs I guess you could call me a weekend warrior since I don't usually work out during the week too often. Sucks doesnt it John? Is Boston getting back to normal? They are going to have such a huge increase on people wanting to run boston, probably will be pretty crazy the next 5 years. |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Yup, long hours blow. Had to bring my car in for an oil change yesterday so I went for a run during that. Hopefully things ease up a bit in the next few weeks, but since we're moving soon I doubt that's going to happen. It's definitely getting back to normal in the area. You just kind of notice people when they are out running now. Still lots of "Boston Strong" stuff around, and people were kind of ticked at that guy with the "Toronto Strong" sign at the hockey game. I've heard at least half a dozen different people in passing saying how they want to run Boston now. There will be some disappointment when they find out how hard it's going to be to register for the next few years. |

You must have been passing people left and right (hopefully just left) on the bike after coming out of the water a little further back and to get the 3rd best time, wow. Keep up the good work man, great stuff. |

Yeah they stopped talking about boston all over the news about a week after, now Im sure all you guys saw this last week was about cleveland and those 3 women. I didnt hear about the Toronto Strong guy, thats sad. I hope someone showed him where to stick his sign.
And yes it will be much more difficult for people to qualify for boston. |

Member 275 Cleveland OH | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed 10x50 hard 30" rest Chris this is from your Sunday may 5th workout, Do you feel this speed work makes you faster more so than just doing 10 x 200's? I have been swimming quite a bit lately and I feel I am getting faster but havnt really been throwing in any speed work just mixing it up between 200, 400, 600 yd intervals. I did 1600 tonight in 30 mins exactly and I did 8 x 200 with maybe 15-20 sec rest in between. I know thats not great but my 1 and only Tri last year I swam in 45 mins it was an oly. My main goal for this year was to beat my time from last year , I didnt really set a time to beat it by which I should have but I didnt think that far ahead. I think realistically I could beat it by 10-13 mins. Thats just on the swim btw. |

Currently icing and heating. We're moving on Monday and I have a few busy days of work, so I knew the training would be taking a hit so now may be a good rest for the hip. |

Member 275 Cleveland OH | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Training is going swell, I have been swimming at least twice per week. My bike is doing well, and I have started back running. Wed I swam 1700 yds in 31 mins, did 4x400 then went home and went for a bike ride, only 20 mins between swim and bike. Rode 23 miles in 1hr 10 mins. We are down south of Columbus now visiting family, going to go for a run. |

Veteran 976 New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed Got a swim in this morning, first in a long time. It felt great. First 500 yards were rough, but once I settled in I just kind of kept going. I did 19 consecutive minutes, just keeping an easy pace and just kept going. Huge for me just because I'll be open swimming soon across lakes and just wanted to kind of solidify it in my mind that I can keep myself calm and just go. Then knocked out a bike ride once I got home. Only 14 miles or whatever, but I'm on dad duty all weekend as my wife just left for her sisters bridal shower, so figured I'd double up today in case I can't get after it tomorrow. How's everyone else's weekend going? Anyone racing this weekend? |

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed had a good last week of training, couple of big sets I was happy to see that I was able to hold. I've kind of entered limbo as far as racing goes, I had planned on racing next weekend, but realized it was the US Pro cycling race in Chattanooga (which I am going to! Yay) so I guess I'll not be racing after all. +1 to the foam roller btw, I didn't think I'd end up using mine when I bought it, but I love it! |

Expert 2192 Greenville, SC | Subject: RE: Leegoocrap & Newbz rowdy Mentor Group - Closed had a long ride this weekend from clemson up to a place called sassafras mountain. i totally underestimated this ride, tons of elevation. the climb just to get to the mountain was ridiculous, but it was downhill the whole 40 miles back to clemson for the most part. weather varied from 90 and sunny to 65 and rainy, pretty crazy. starting to begin my taper for my HIM. had my last long run yesterday of 15 miles @7:40, was fairly moderate effort since the course was mostly flat. not really sure how to taper effectively on the bike, so i'll probably just stick to a group ride next week and then a short outdoor ride to make sure everything is in working order on my TT setup. im pretty iffy on the bottle setup i have at the moment... and im not sure whether or not i should carry a flat kit for the race. |

What's your current bottle / flat setup? |
