Veteran 430 Bendigo, Victoria | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED KC - Glad the IT band is holding up and glad you had a great time on the slopes. KTC & WTB - hope you both feel better soon! Pierce - Congrats on your 10K, awesome pace and time, well done! I've been out of action for almost a week thanks to a very painful cyst on my lady bits (sorry guys, was the most polite way I could think of putting it). It was absolutely excrutiating until it finally burst of its own accord on Saturday afternoon. I went to the doctor today and he took a swab and confirmed it was a Bartholin's cyst. I get the results back in a week and if it is still infected he will put me on antibiotics. Thankfully most of the crud is out of it now and it feels so much better, so I can return to training tomorrow. One thing he did confirm was that it was caused by injury or trauma to the area from riding my bike, more than likely during my sprint race as my tri-suit has bugger all padding. I have to becareful now and if it flares up again he is going to book me in for surgery to have the gland removed. Thankfully I've bought a new saddle and some antibacterial chamois cream, so I'll see how that goes. I guess it just goes to show how careful we all need to be with pressure down there. I just hope I never have to go through that again!! Anyway I hope everyone has a great week of training! |

Master 1790 \Windsor, Ontario | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED Good Morning Team RFP. 3 weeks into IM training - this is week 4 and my slower week - I will probably push a bit on the the bike this week since I missed last a long ride on my ski weekend 2 Saturdays ago. My 2.5 hr trainer ride and long run on Saturday was ok - IT band flarred up again on run though which is troubling me? Pierce - nice job on the 10KM. KTC - hope you are feeling better. Simone - good luck - take care of the issue and you will be back to new before you know it. Have a great week everyone. KC |

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED Happy Monday everyone! Pierce - great job on your 10k! That is awesome. Something else I do when I try to drink water while running is they tend to fill the cups to full so dump half of it out otherwise it will spill on you and then cup it like Tim said and it will work. Jenn - hope you get to feeling better. KC - Hope your IT is doing better Simone - glad you found out what is going on and that relief is on the way. Have a great week! Kathy |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED KC - these two sentences conflict with each other! You have plenty of time and missing one long ride is not gonna make or break your race but "pushing" anything at this stage of your training especially with IT band issues WILL affect your race. I would suggest sticking with your plans workouts and then get back at it next week. Just my two cents.... kcgolf - 2013-02-25 8:10 AM 3 weeks into IM training - this is week 4 and my slower week - I will probably push a bit on the the bike this week since I missed last a long ride on my ski weekend 2 Saturdays ago. Veteran 203 Boulder | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED Thanks all. I'm feeling better. I did a slow 30 min run this morning. Due to cold, snow, ice, recovering from being sick, and just not having any energy but now I feel good that at least I did it. Simone - ouch! I read a girls blog that *detailed* a situation identical as that! They way she wrote it was hilarious but it was a very serious cyst. Glad you got it all figured out. Scott - sounds like you are right on the money. Good luck with the run training and can't wait to hear about how your marathon in April goes. |

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED Scott, what do you mean by the cadence counter? How is that helping with your dead spots? IceManScott - 2013-02-24 5:51 PM Swim is plus 10. Lessons really helped to even the stroke and I got a cadence counter which is helping to take away dead spots. I feel faster, easier and smoother in the water, not harder. All good.

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED Kinda wish I could have a snow day so I don't have to do anything. But then again I am so ready for spring! Yesterday it rained all day (again) and I got to drive around in it and I had to do an hour long run workout. By the time I got home I was tired and just didn't feel like doing anything. I finally talked myself into running because a) I wanted to prove to myself that I can still workout after a long hard day. b) I knew I would feel better if I just went out there and ran. Another reason why I didn't feel like running was because I am not a fan of my 2 only run routes but I got out there anyway with my safety vest so people can see me and I ran. I told myself just run and not worry about your pace, after getting into the groove I was running way faster then what I planned and it felt GOOD! By the time I was finished I felt like a winner as I got out there and ran and I ran faster then anticipated. |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED Since I am doing the Fink Ironfit plan again this year i am following his swim plan and I just dread the continuous swim days. Knocked it out about 35 seconds slower than last year at this time but last year I was in much better shape as I was prepping for my IM training on Jan.1 instead of this year waiting to start up middle of February. Did 2500Y straight in 45:03 which is about a 1:48/100Y pace. I want to get that down to 1:40 come July. Got a late start so I wasn't able to get my run in after the pool so I will have to try and get it in after the kids go to bed . |

As far as using the tempo trainer and getting faster - I am hoping that is what it will do for me eventually - but if it does not - I can always pick another fast moving tidal river to swim in . Seriously though I would recomend it as a great training tool. KC krazytallchick - 2013-02-27 9:05 AM KC, thanks for the links. Veteran 430 Bendigo, Victoria | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED G'day Team, I'm back in action finally! Had a really great session at the gym today, my first run since the cyst incident and had no dramas at all, was only going to do 15 mins on the tready cause I thought I might be sore still, but felt so good I ended doing 30. Then had a really good weights session, again was only planning to take it easy, but felt so strong I did a heavier workout. I really missed the endorphin rush and it is SO GREAT to be stuck back into it! Looks like everyone else is making good strides and getting some great sessions in. KTC - Way to stick it out, you are one tough chick! It's funny how we always try to find a reason not to get out there, but we also know once we do it, we'll be all the better for it. Nice work! Tim - You are a swimming machine my friend! KC - I have a feeling all those drills and sessions you are doing are going to pay off in a big way come IM time! I really hope you get your IT band issue resolved, I have a feeling my achilles is going to be like that, just niggling all the time and giving me the sh*ts. I'm thinking about getting a deep tissue massage once a fortnight, as I still believe my issue is muscle related cause my calves tighten up so much after a run. I hope everyone else is having a good week and those of you who are dealing with snow manage to get outside soon. take care peeps. Oooh, almost forgot! My new saddle arrived today, I settled for a Selle Italia Lady Diva Gel, it had great reviews online and I managed to get it $80 cheaper by buying it through wiggle.co.uk (Australia has the worst import duty tax on goods sold over here, it's criminal!). I'm hoping it will make a difference. I will put it on over the weekend, by then I should be right to take the roady out again. |

Member 170 | Subject: RE: RFP GROUP 2013 - CLOSED Good morning group! Glad to hear the injuries are on the mend for everyone! I gave up on my Timex global trainer and sent it back, too far off on the distance for me. So I haven't been able to train with heart rate in a week or so. I hope to get the new Timex Run Trainer 2.0 that has most of the options I want in a training watch including vibrating alerts and settings for both nutrition and hydration as well as intervals by time or distance. Only thing it lacks for me is the speed/cadence for the bike but I can just hammer it all the time
I also gave up on the ancient YMCA near work. It was awful. Dirty, short pool, fat old guys. And don't get me started on the showers. Anyway I joined a Golds 3 miles from the house so I am now an early morning guy instead of a lunch time guy. Today was my first workout at the new gym. It's nice to be in a real 25m pool. Did a decent 30 minute session really trying to focus on hip rotation and moderate glide. I'm trying to learn to bilateral breathe too since I seem to rotate better on the left arm when I'm trying. It feels AWKWARD though. Went and got on a spin bike for a hills/tempo session after the swim. Got in 11 miles and my legs are still feeling it!
The March 24 countdown begins tomorrow. I plan to swim 4 days a week, M Tu Th F with cross fit on Mon after the swim, spin on Tu after the swim, short run on Wed, spin on Thurs, medium run on Fri and long run on Sunday. Something like that anyway, we'll see how it goes. My focus needs to be on the swim since I can do the bike-run brick at a decent pace.
