I had the best weekend in a long time. We biked a lot, every day actually, and swam and ran along the beach in Hilton Head Island, SC. The water was a little chilly, but nice and refreshing after our dawn run. We saw the sun get up out of the ocean, it was so beautiful.

That sounds great!! My son and I got up, went down to the end of the St. Petersburg Pier and watched the shuttle launch from across the state! Big orange glow shooting up and then the smoke trail. Very cool. So glad my son got to see this while we're visiting Florida.

I love how Bethie Love hops in here when I'm out (Happy Easter) and I hop in here when she's out (Happy Easter). Sometimes, we are both here and then there's lots of Manatee Magic!!!

There's so much Manatee Magic going on anyway and you all are making it happen. Unfortunately, this is my fourth big long post that I'm trying to put in here--either my computer or someone else's eats it before it goes up!

Lynne--I'm so sorry about the 10K. That is serious pants.

Lynn--how's your recovery going?

Art--Yay on taking "Nathan" out for a run. Glad it's working for ya!

Melyssa--wow, manic Missy--you as always are Wonder Woman. I think it's great you got out for a walk. Any chance you could get a jogging stroller?

Dineen--like the others, yep on the 2nd half-mary option. Beth and I have both had miserable overuse/over-ramping injuries and then stellar successes in running. You're doing very well and this option is highly doable. Remember to keep it conversational.

Mia--a 66-minute 10K (with stops!!) ... I want to do that! Glad you had a lovely holiday.

Rebecca--yes, good on you for running at all.

BTW, 'officially' this mentor season is over, but ... PFFFFFFT! It just started! The threads stay up, and we'll be here, so we hope you hang around too because I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say it is really inspirational to be along for your life and tri journeys.

As for me--I'm doing great, finally, coming back from a nasty depression (is there any other kind?) Now I'm back into regular training, and also, I seem to have acquired two gorgeous Labrador puppies who are excellent OWS companions, and okay to run if on soft sand or grass.

Morning Manatees!  I haven't read back yet so forgive my just jumping in here.

Is anyone else here frustrated as much as I am about running?  Seriously. I am just so done with it! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   My last run felt exhausting, like every body part was glued together, especially my arms and legs.  I just don't know what path to take! It's pants.

I did 160 lengths in the pool Saturday night, was really surprised at how busy the gym was for a Saturday night @6pm.

Yesterday I rode from my house to my inlaws in Seattle, nearly got blown over a few times. Far too windy.  Did stop for coffee (as you do here).

Now I don't know what to do as I signed up for a 12K run this coming Sunday. I am totally dreading it. Really, really dreading it.

Any advice?

Some runs be good. Some runs be bad. You may be kinda run out. If I were you, I would do maybe ONE light run this week, on Wed, Thur, or Fri. Then go into Sunday with an attitude of FUN. Wear a stupid hat or T-shirt. Bunny ears? Enjoy it. Walk it, if the time allows.

I'm signed up for a half mary this weekend.  I'm thinking I might have to do that myself....

I think you got good advice. Just look at it like it's just for fun, not so serious.
It's ok if it goes slow.
And also I think you will get the kick from the race and all the people around you to unglue your arms and legs.

Hmmm ... yes and no. Not really. It may seem like a huge setback but 5 weeks isn't that long. Though you may FEEL like you're back at the beginning, if you continue to train regularly, you'll get it back a lot more quickly than before because you have the pre-existing base. Keep doing what you can, when you can ... I think you'll be surprised at how much better it gets.

You've had so much on your plate and done so much ... be good to yourself.

Mentor season over?! Well, big flippers of applause to Yanti and Beth for putting up with my noob shzt. And Ima keep posting here and looking at me fellow manatees' logs, if that's cool with y'all.

I had a badass swim just now -- I musta been doing it right because I was not cold AT ALL when I crawled out of the pool and was HAPPY to get under the cold shower! (jokes aside please, heehee)

I usually get pretty warm when I swim too and my husband gets heat rashes from swimming sometimes. So you are probably on to something here. :-)

I'm going to keep posting here to if you keep the thread alive. My first race is still not planned yet, but I hope we can plan for it soon and do it soon. I have 5 weeks left on my 13 week original sprint program and I hope to do my first race in about that time.

I was at an interveiw today (my second one for this company) and I got the job! :-)
So now I can start saving money for my bike.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

About being able to start on a bike that is

Yes, of course we are keeping this thread alive (posted about it last page). I feel like we just got started! And you, and several others, haven't done their first tri race yet, so of COURSE I'm waiting (at least) until then ... with baited breath!

Start researching that bike now. Believe me, once you start to get into the whole thing, unless you're already a bike geek, there's a lot to learn. I'm still learning and probably will be for while!

This has been a most wonderful group of Manatees and I have truly enjoyed the past several months of meeting and getting to know you all.

After a great deal of thought and consideration, I've decided that it's best for me to not mentor for a while - just a lot of stuff going on in my personal life that need focus and attention.

It's been a great experience and I know you will continue to have a great experience with Yanti and Lynn!

I hope everyone has a great season

Cheers!

Beth, thanks for everything you've done -- I hope you hang around check in without feeling any pressure to be "in charge" -- this whole support thing goes both ways, ya know!

Sorry to be absent the past few days -- work is kicking ma buttocks of late.  I am managing to not miss workouts, but I am not having much online time.  I'll stick around as long as everyone else does!

Me too, Melyssa -- since we're on opposite sides of the world, we can't do the same race, but we can virtually train together!

Just to clarify--we are definitely CONTINUING this Manatee group, instead of transferring you guys to a new group and adding new members. You're more than welcome to drop by and say hello, but please know that our own wonderful Manatee home here will continue.

[Yes, there is also a "new" Manatee group that Lynn and I are getting started.]

Thank you all.

I've been running and swimming and I feel like I'm getting better at my strokes. I've changed my breast stroke a little and I think I can get faster then I am now. I'm gliding more and longer under water now and it feels like less work and more rest and I don't get as tired.

So now I just need to get a little faster in the freestyle stroke too and then I can alternate them.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I think I am definitely ridiculously hooked -- I am running a 15K tomorrow (feeling a little unprepared, but goal is to finish, so...) and it's on the beach and I actually packed my swimsuit just-in-case I decide I want to jump in and get a little OWS time in.  That thar is crazy talk.

First race of the season is in the books.  GSV 1/2 marathon, 2:18:30.  Great time (for me) considering it is the first time I went over 10 miles this year.  Looks like the extra training this winter is paying off.
